My New Purse

(If you must have politics, please scroll down)

I rarely buy anything for myself. For one thing, I hate to shop! But when I got out my summer purse this year, I noticed that it was frayed and faded.

A few weeks ago, I decided to "commission" Woodersterman's wife to make a purse to my specifications. Click directly on the image above to enlarge it.

Go HERE, "Tails of a Purse for a Friend," to see some of the steps in the creation of the purse I requested.

Eliminate Learning Facts?

(With thanks to Mark Alexander, who emailed me the link to the recent Telegraph article cited below)

Get ready for the next fad in failed education curricula and teaching methods.

It has now been seriously proposed that students do not need to learn facts because facts can be accessed from students' Smartphones.

Book Review: Arsenal

Tammy Swofford’s suspense novel Arsenal, the title referring to strategic thought rather than to the military battlefield or acts of militant jihad, lives up to its genre label. The plot, well delineated and plausible, deals with the search for an Islamic treasure, namely, a pouch containing the hair of Muhammad the Prophet. Early on in the novel, the voice of a minor character describes the mission of the Muslim Brotherhood in the West, deemed decadent by the devout, and lays the foundation for the suspense plot that rushes to fulfillment in the second portion of Arsenal:
“'Just as we are to recite the Qur’an in a measured tone, we must also move in a measured and quiet manner in the West. We do not move as a lion, but we move as a panther'” (19).
Along the way, Arsenal, points out the dangers of geopolitical Islam and the West’s gullibility thereto, particularly the lack of Western understanding of the 1998-2007 wordcraft sword of Islam as expressed by the thoughts of the character Ahmad as-Sirjani:
“Universal Values. Two simple words….The words would sound secular, adaptable to the Western ear. But the cryptograph would be Qur’anic….It was time for a paradigm shift” (103).
Genre and political aspects aside, what makes this novel an outstanding and readable piece of writing is threefold.

My Redeemer Lives!

For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:

And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God.

Jesus Lay In The Tomb

(If you must have politics, keep scrolling)

The final chorus of The St. Matthew Passion by J.S. Bach (with thanks to commenter FreeThinke):

Translation:
We sit down in tears
And call to thee in the tomb:
Rest softly, softly rest!
Rest, ye exhausted limbs!
Your grave and tombstone
Shall for the unquiet conscience
Be a comfortable pillow
And the soul’s resting place.
In utmost bliss, dear Lord, rest there thine eyes, and sleep.

Guest Post From Mustang Sends

My dear friend Mustang, one of the most politically astute people I know, has graciously sent me the guest post below. Worth your time:

Politicians are no solution to the problem: they are the problem.

When Jefferson wrote, “We hold these truths to be self-evident,” he was writing at a different time, in a pre-communist Era. Who could have imagined back then that any reasonably intelligent person could argue in favor of taxing productivity as a means of supporting the obsessive/compulsive spending habits of politicians who care more about themselves than they do about America?

Just In Time For Passover

Moses was a Muslim and led the Muslims out of Egypt! Just as a helicopter rescued the maroons in the novel Treasure Island, I suppose.

Did Obama Threaten The Supreme Court? (With Addenda)

(Two posts today. Please scroll down for the other post)

I gasped yesterday when I heard Obama shoot off his mouth about the pending Supreme Court decision on ObamaCare. From the Guardian:

In The Streets Of Luton

Luton, a large town in Bedfordshire, England, is located 30 miles north of London. Because of several waves of immigration in the 20th Century, the town is ethnically and religiously diverse. The latest statistics indicate that Muslims comprise about 15%.

Easter Break Starts Today

And do I ever need this break!

I love teaching, but all of these advanced and accelerated classes take a heavy toll on me.

Hat tip to Dmarks for the graphic that sums up how I've been faring the past several weeks of the third grading period:

That same graphic applies to how I feel when I read the daily news.

On Saturday, Mr. AOW and I are going into Washington, D.C., for a museum trip. We are planning to meet up with The Beak. Mr. AOW is looking forward to this museum trip and to visiting with The Beak, and so am I!

Also, during vacation I will be reading Arsenal, a novel written by my dear friend Tammy Swofford [blog site]:

I will post a review of the novel after reading it. Debbie of Right Truth has already posted THIS REVIEW of Tammy's novel.

I started reading Arsenal when it first arrived but could not devote much time to reading for pleasure when classes were in session. But I love what I've read so far!

The Toulouse Slayings

For two mornings in a row, the lead story on the news has been that of the siege in Toulouse.

The precipitating event was Mohammed Merah's murder of Rabbi Jonathan Sandler, the rabbi's two sons — Gabriel, age 3, and Arye, age 6 — and Miriam Monsonego, age 8 (hat tip to Will for the photo below):

(If you must have politics, please scroll down. Two posts today)

On this first day of spring, please enjoy the video below the fold (Thanks, Free Thinke):

Muslim Cab Drivers

As one who occasionally takes a taxicab, particularly when drop off a car for repair or maintenance and lives in Northern Virginia, I noted the following, dated March 3, 2012 (Thanks, Angie):
...NightWatch learned from a Pakistani taxi driver in northern Virginia that Allah's call to kill non-believers can come to a true believer at any time, without warning and it must be obeyed by the true believer. Killing Christians and Jews ends their existence which is itself a sin against Allah, the man said. Muslim deaths hasten their journey to be with Allah.

The man, a devout Muslim and educated engineer, said he would have to kill his passenger if he heard Allah's call.....
Frankly, I can think of no defense against such spontaneous devotion to the call of Allah.

On the other hand, I know of no such incident here in the United States or anywhere else in the West. If you are aware of any such incident, please leave the information in the comments section of this post.

So, what are we to conclude from the above excerpt?

U. S. State Department Actively Promoting Eurabia

From Creeping Sharia:
...Obama ideologues are crisscrossing Europe on U.S. taxpayer funded trips to “export” failed American approaches to multiculturalism, affirmative action, cultural diversity and special rights for minorities.

Further, American diplomats are repeatedly apologizing to Muslims in Europe for a multitude of real or imagined slights against Islam, and the U.S. State Department is now spending millions of dollars each year actively promoting Islam — including Islamic Sharia law — on the continent....

Aging In Place? (With Addendum)

This morning, I was out running errands and drove by several newer homes, most of them large and beautiful structures with lovely landscaping. I noticed, however, that almost all of these new homes had several steps to climb at the entrance.

I thought back to the time that Mr. AOW was in the nursing home following a devastating brain hemorrhage at the age of fifty-nine. Needless to say, Mr. AOW was the youngest resident of the nursing home.

Obama Refuses To Budge

(A follow-up to this previous post. Settle in for one of my long posts)

According to this source:
Despite renewed statements of concern by Catholic leaders and lawmakers, the Obama administration is done negotiating and will finalize its plan requiring insurance companies to provide free contraception to women working and studying at religious institutions, President Obama’s chief of staff said Sunday....
What Obama has done is this: by forcing all insurance companies to provide contraception free of charge to insureds, these institutions, including hospitals, will have to (1) knuckle under, (2) stop providing any employer-based health insurance (They may not legally be able to do so), or (3) close their doors. Obama's mandate goes into effect on August 1, 2012.

Suppose you and I worked for one of these institutions? Would we stay as employees if there were no health insurance offered by our employer? Could we stay? Individual policies are expensive beyond belief and offer coverage more limited than that of group plans.

Information about Nyac, one of the hand-holding otters in the video above:
...[O]ne of the last surviving sea otters from the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill[,] Nyac came to the Vancouver Aquarium in 1989 as one of the few young survivors of the oil spill. She not only survived the traumatic event, but she overcame incredible odds and became the only known survivor to have successfully had a pup. On November 9, 1993, Nyac gave birth to a healthy female pup, Kipnuk. This event was considered miraculous due to the internal damage she had sustained. During her 20 years of life, she won the hearts of members, visitors, volunteers and staff at the Vancouver Aquarium....

Racism

In the thread below, commenter Duck's Here pointed out that Peter Brimelow gave a speech at CPAC 2012. Brimelow has a reputation as a white supremacist.

White folks are not the only racists on the planet.

Indeed, Samuel L. Jackson a civil rights activist after the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., and today an actor and film producer, is a racist and very proud to say so.
