Some Thoughts On Sandra Fluke's Claim That A Woman's Contraception Can Cost $3000 Over 3 YearsAlso note THIS, posted today by Z!:
Her numbers were no fluke. I do not believe Sandra Fluke just made her numbers up. She is a long time activist. She knows how to represent her cause. The podium she has been given here is too big and important for her to just be winging it.
The ONLY way that contraception could add up to $3000 per year is if one has used expensive services repeatedly.
The pill at $9 a year is NOT expensive. Dr. visits and Pap Smears are not that expensive. Not $1000 a year expensive, anyway.
The services which are expensive are
ABORTIONS (which have an average national cost of $468)
and
RU-486 - which, with Dr. visits - have an average national cost of approximately $400
So, here's a possible explanation.
Doctor visit (to obtain prescription): $75
Pap Smear (usually required by the Dr.) : $200
The Pill at $9 per month = $108 per year
1 Abortion or RU-486 = $400-468 per year
or, about $851 per year.
So, $1000 per year would be approxiamtely the cost of 1 pap smear, 1 Dr. visit, the pill, plus one abortion.
Remember, abortion is part of the constellation of contraceptive options to these people.
[Sandra Fluke] also, apparently, believes that it is discrimination deserving of legal action if "gender reassignment" surgeries are not covered by employer provided health insurance....
Great roundup of what this nonsense is not about. The whole thing was a staged and planned political attack against the GOP, and as usual, the gop happily obliged and fell into the trap.

I regard Ms. Shaw as a fine person and a potential friend, despite her being seriously misguided on "Women's Issues" and matters economic. I'm not sure she returns the compliment, however.

The left did set a trap, and the GOP, and amazingly, Rush Limbaugh fell right into it.
It's a horrendous sleight of hand, changing the subject from the shredding of the constitution to the touchy-feely emotionalism of "womens rights."
I think we will continue to find out more about Mz. Fluke, and it won't be pretty.
ReplyDeleteAs to the fallout, Carbonite stock plummets. Both the Grouch and I have used Carbonite for years. We will probably continue until our paid for service runs out, then we will switch to something else. What a shame.
Rush Limbaugh said he knew about these companies and their politics, but business is business, and if they wanted to take advantage of advertising on his show, fine. By choosing to leave they will suffer the consequences.
It will be interesting to see which companies sign on to take their place.

Of course Fluke's claims about the cost of contraception are hyper-inflated at least and downright lies and distortions at worst.
ReplyDeleteAnd if contraception is an absolute daily health need then what about the other daily health needs? Shouldn't toothpaste and dental floss be paid for by insurance? And what about a proper diet to maintain health? Shouldn't food be paid for by insurance? (Ooopss... I forgot that Food stamp use has exploded under Obama.
What Fluke revealed, and unfortunately was NOT talked about because of Rush's unfortunate labeling of Fluke as a "prostitute" is the cradle to grave mentality of socialism which Fluke and Obama represent.
When you let the government help you with every aspect of your life they will run every aspect of your life.
How would you like it if some federal floss inspector showed up at your door?

Georgetown University is a Jesuit-run institution. Fluke knew the rules when she chose to enroll. She has had an agenda from the start.
