Life is good ...

By Sam Huntington

Suppose you were the mayor of New York City —a rich bastard who touts conservative ideals but behaves as a Soros socialist. And then suppose you received a telephone call from the White House that went something like this: “As you know, I promised the American people fundamental change to our country. We are making important in-roads to achieving this by destroying every vestige of America’s fundamental institutions. So what I would like you to do is turn your head to an up-coming ‘Occupy Wall Street’ demonstration. I’ll make it worth your while.”

In Memory of Alex Münch

Our good friend Alex has passed away.  He was a frequent commenter here at Always On Watch and at Infidel Bloggers Alliance, and a regular participant in the chat room at The Gathering Storm Radio Show on Blog Talk Radio.

On Sunday, as soon as I heard the sad news, I spoke by phone to his son Amnon. Of course, I offered my condolences.

Alex was a good friend to Mr. AOW and me. When Mr. AOW was in the nursing home, nobody called him there - except for Alex, who phoned all the way from Israel to speak to my husband.

"Courage from Israel!"  Alex stated emphatically.

Alex also phoned our home several times after Mr. AOW came home. Mr. AOW loved those calls.  They meant a lot to him and to me as well.

Amnon asked me to post an announcement here on the web as Alex's family didn't know all the Internet acquaintances and friends that Alex had made.

Tough as I am, I am typing this post through tears.

I will miss Alex.  He was a rock - and lots of fun too.

Why Memorial Day? (Guest Post)

WHY MEMORIAL DAY?

Do you remember the parades? The high school marching bands, the Boy Scouts, the Cub Scouts, and the Brownies all neatly dressed in their uniforms and marching along, sometimes shyly, sometimes proudly, but more often just plain doggedly?

I'm Baaaaaack!

(If you must have politics, please scroll down)

The 2011-2012 classes I teach end on Tuesday, May 29. For all intents and purposes, I don't have any "homework" now.

I'm looking forward to a summer of frequent blogging as we approach the November 2012 National Elections.

Countering Obama

(With a hat tip to Silverfiddle for much of the information in this post)

The Obama campaign and Obama supporters are bragging about how Obama saved the U.S. auto industry.

That success story is false.

"You will not disrespect the president of the United States in this classroom"

(Two posts today and another late yesterday.  Please scroll down)

What prompted the exchange from which the title of this post comes? The teacher's "fact of the day" that Romney was a bully in high school.

Reminder

The following audio of a statement that Obama made early this century disappeared from the web for a while, but I recently found the audio again (hat tip to Conservative Hideout):

Our Immoral President

by Sam Huntington

Even though most people in this country regard same sex relationships repugnant, they do they care how consenting adults behave in the privacy of their own homes. We may not approve of their behavior, but unlike the Islamic faith, rational Christians believe that people have God’s permission to make unwise or immoral decisions.   We call this freedom of choice.   Still, while content to allow people to find their own way, we cannot say all human behavior is worthy of emulation.

Obama The Blowhard

How Obama keeps his word (hat tip to THE ASTUTE BLOGGERS):

Speaking of lying (hat tip to Randy's Roundtable, citing this May 8, 2012 press release at the White House web page):
The only time government employment has gone down during a recession has been under me. (Applause.) So I make that point just so you don't buy into this whole bloated government argument that you hear. And frankly, if Congress had said yes to helping states put teachers back to work and put the economy before our politics, then tens of thousands more teachers in New York would have a job right now. That is a fact. And that would mean not only a lower unemployment rate, but also more customers for business.
The truth, from CNN Money on January 25, 2012:
The number of federal employees grew by 123,000, or 6.2%, under President Obama, according to the White House's Office of Management and Budget.
Do voters in America have memories long enough to remember Obama's broken promises and egregious lies?

Musical Interlude

(If you must have politics, please scroll down)

Lizzie Borden's favorite poem and a beautiful song accompanied by lovely images in the video below:

An exile in her hometown of Fall River after the murders of her father and stepmother on August 4, 1892, Lizzie Borden had the poem's words engraved on the mantel of Maplecroft, the mansion she purchased after her acquittal in the trial of the century. She also directed that the first and fourth verses of "My Ain Countrie" be sung at her private wake following her death on June 1, 1927. "My Ain Countrie" is sometimes referred to as "Lizzie Borden's Hymn." Lyrics:

Creeping Shari'ah

By Sam Huntington

Is this "much ado" about nothing?

Maybe.  In democratic society, everyone is encouraged to express an opinion, even when —or especially when various segments of society do not agree.

While “shouting down” an opponent does appear remarkably similar to the kind of behavior we expect from progressives, I should think we must be grateful that these Islamacists are in the open about their long-term plan for western civilization.  Personally, I don’t think most Europeans and Americans are quite as dim-witted as these Islamacists think.  I mean, there is no way western culture would roll over for Shar’ia Law.  No way.  Right?

The Meaning of Words

by Sam Huntington

Not long after the conclusion of French national elections, an American journalist asked a random citizen, “What do you think of the election of a socialist?” The older man replied, “I do not care; I refused to vote.”

The journalist persisted, “Why didn’t you vote?” The man replied, “Because both candidates are imbeciles.”

Obama Launches 2012 Campaign

Not that the Campaigner-In-Chief hasn't been campaigning for re-election ever since inaugurated on January 20, 2009!

Nonethess, the official launch of Obama re-election campaign is today, with the campaign slogan "Forward!" That term is similar to Karl Marx's birthday and language used by Lenin and Mao. Make time to read that second link an essay by Daniel Greenfield!

How those of us who oppose Obama's re-election feel about the campaign slogan and the incumbent's "accomplishments" (hat tip to Woodsterman for the graphic below):

Chinese Dragons and Russian Bears

by Sam Huntington

While Mr. Obama makes diplomatic visitation to Afghanistan to help perpetuate his legacy as a wartime president, a far more dangerous situation is developing in Asia. No surprise, Americans are not hearing about any of this from the state-run media. Here are a few examples:

· China is claiming island territory within fifty miles of the Philippines.

· Chinese frigates regularly intruded Philippine territorial waters.

· Chinese ships fired upon Philippine fishing boats.

· Chinese naval vessels rammed Vietnamese fishing boats (See Note 1)

· Chinese accost Indian naval vessels operating off the coast of Vietnam, demanding to know why they are operating in Chinese waters.

· Chinese military aircraft intrude into Taiwanese air space.

· China intruded Japanese mainland territorial waters on 14 occasions.

· China intruded Okinawa territorial waters on 10 occasions.

· China created six major incidents with the US Navy at sea.

· Raise your hand if you aren’t aware that North Korea is China’s redheaded stepchild.

Note 1: Vietnam possesses one of the world’s largest armies: (China: 4.5 million, Vietnam: 5.9 million).

Secretary of State Clinton warned China about its aggressive behavior in 2010. She said, “… the United States has a national interest in freedom of navigation, open access to Asia’s maritime commons, and respect for international law in the South China Sea.” China was not very pleased with Clinton, but her warning has not deterred them. The Chinese realize our president is a nincompoop, plus, they own the deed to the farm.

Danger of a regional conflict is real. The consequence to China’s arrogance has been a dramatic increase in military spending among Southeast Asian countries. Australia, Japan, India, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Taiwan have all dedicated billions of dollars on new or upgraded military hardware. The United States is upgrading naval facilities in Guam —so much so that Representative Hank Johnson (D-GA) worries the island may capsize. Nevertheless, all of these countries recognize the wisdom of pooling their resources to keep China in check; Japan has taken the lead in establishing mutual defense cooperatives with Australia, South Korea, India, and the United States. Singapore has offered to provide bases for the US Navy.

Obama finally did turn his attention toward the Pacific Rim, but not everyone has confidence in America’s chief executive. Owing to the fact that we don’t know what motivates Chinese behavior, the Australian General Staff worries that a mistake could lead to disastrous consequences —particularly when it is likely that China will attempt to use its military to enforce a Chinese Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

The problem is that while demanding that other nations treat Chinese EEZs as its sovereign territory, China routinely refuses to acknowledge the EEZs of other nations. From the standpoint of international law, EEZs are not sovereign territory. We can therefore see how China might regard the US Navy’s mission to safeguard open sea-lanes as an intolerable trespass —a situation that could lead to deadly confrontation.

Some politicians argue that given China’s dependence on global trade, a deadly confrontation is unlikely. They may have forgotten that economic ties did not hinder German aggression at the beginning of the 20th Century —a costly mistake for France. Obama’s plan to decrease the defense budget should concern us. He would rather allocate taxpayer dollars to Government Motors and rewarding unionists for their votes, but here is where we find the real and present danger. Defense cuts may encourage China to challenge allied nations within the region of Southeast Asia —they are that arrogant.

Danger lurks from further West, too. Russia has noted Obama’s weaknesses and his desperation for reelection. From Russia’s perspective, there couldn’t be a better time to threaten the United States and NATO with pre-emptive strikes unless we agree to cancel the so-called Missile Defense Shield, designed as a safeguard from Iranian ICBMs.

The reader may recall that in March, Mr. Obama gave a wink and a nod to outgoing Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, informing him that he would have more “flexibility” to make a deal after the November elections. A live microphone captured Obama’s treason, but apparently, Russia believes there is no reason to wait until November.

If one understands international relations, Russia’s timing couldn’t be better. We should anticipate this sort of behavior by an adversary whenever they perceive American leadership as weak, incompetent, ineffective, or confused. And that is exactly where Mr. Obama has taken the once-great United States of America —a likely consequence of electing a community organizer to an office for which he is singularly unqualified.

This situation should once again remind us that American politicians and diplomats seldom learn important lessons of history. America cannot afford another war right now. Neither can we afford the perception of weakness, incompetence, or abject stupidity. We continue to live in a dangerous world; there is no need for Obama and his puerile cabinet to make things worse.

Rather than facing a deadly and costly regional conflict in Southeast Asia, it would be far less expensive to deter Chinese aggression vis-à-vis a strong military presence along the Pacific Rim. As for the Russian Bear, they understand but one thing: force or its promise. I have no confidence that Obama will make the proper decision on behalf of the American people or our NATO allies.

Intolerable Behavior

By Sam Huntington

In 2008, white Americans overwhelmingly elected Barack Obama. Three years later, the nation is an economic disaster, and Americans are becoming all too aware of the fact that Mr. Obama has lied to them at the outset of his first campaign. Accordingly, voters are lining up to oust Mr. Obama —as they should. The United States cannot afford four more years of Marxist programs originating from the White House. His tax policy is destroying American businesses, both large and small, and destroying middle class households. He has launched a multi-faceted attack upon our traditional values, and capitalized on the worst aspects of class, racial, and gender warfare.

Unknown Numbers

Misogyny and enslavement, long after the supposed elimination of slavery in the West and the long after the supposed arrival of equal rights for women, are apparently on the rise (hat tip to Creeping Sharia):

Some of the brutalization of Muslim girls and women in the UK is coming to light. For example this article appeared in the Telegraph on April 22, 2012 (hat tip to Will). Excerpt:
