  1. I have a feeling it would bother me, if it bothered you, AOW, but unfortunately all I could get was "NOT FOUND" when I clicked on the link.

    Oh well ...

    See you later~

  2. FT,
The material to which the original link was supposed to go either is not available now or the link was so far beyond repair that no fix was possible.

However, I easily found something else to link to -- something more recent.

  3. Hi AOW.

Hmmmm.......The one word missing in the order: "Congress".He's planning to stay for a very, very long time.....elections or not.

Here's the original order from the Obama house:

  4. Hi AOW,
    Just came across the following:

For those who think this new Executive Order will not affect you because you think we are not in a “national emergency,” understand that WE ARE, with Iran as the excuse. Obama signed a “Continuation of the National Emergency with Respect to Iran” on March 13, just three days before the following E.O.

that executive order was 'updated& replaced' by this one here:

  5. Will,
The one word missing in the order: "Congress".

Obama has been bragging how he'll "get things done" without Congress. He's true to his word in that regard, huh?

  6. We stood up and cheered, or shrugged our shoulders and looked the other way when Bush did crap like this.

We are reaping what we have sown, or at least allowed to be sown in violation of our constitution and our civil liberties.

  7. Silverfiddle,
Yes, many GOP folks stood up and cheered, or shrugged our shoulders and looked the other way, particularly right after 9/11.

Now look where we are! Ugh.

  8. If Obama does this in his first term, then I shudder to think what he'll do as a lame duck president.

  9. Obviously, the ability of the U.S. government to induct and draft citizens into the military against their will is, although a clear violation of their rights, not an issue considered shocking by its nature of having been invoked so many times in the past. Logically, this “authority” is provided for in this section.
However, what may be shocking is the fact that Section 601 also provides for the mobilization of “labor” for purposes of the national defense. Although some subsections read that evaluations are to be made regarding the “effect and demand of labor utilization,” the implication is that “labor” (meaning American workers) will be considered yet one more resource to be seized for the purposes of “national defense.” Notice that the language of the EO does not state “in the event of a national emergency.” Instead, we are given the term “purposes of national defense.” This is because the “authorities” assumed by the President have been assumed not just for arbitrary declarations of “national emergency” but for peacetime as well.

Somehow a time warp brought us back to 1939 Germany.

  10. This is nothing short of a coup d'etat. Gy tying these new powers to "preparedness" for any emergency, a president doesn't need to declare an emergency or call for martial law. Al he or his cabinet members have to do is decide we are not prepared for some emergency and the are authorized to intervene any industry or agricultural activity or transportation activity at will. They are authorized to spend what ever is needed without congressional approval. Spellchek did a good piece on this:

Thanks for alerting me to that post over at Spellchek. I added that link to the body of the post.

  12. Jim, you called it in your comment over at Spellchek:

By extending the idea of emergency powers to being “prepared” for an emergency, Obama has given himself and all future presidents dictatorial power.

  13. There are those on the Right who are saying this is nothing new-- Ed Morrisey over at Hot Air for one. Here is the change:

Obama has added to Section 201(b) the phrase “under both emergency and non-emergency conditions.”

  16. Also, consider THIS! Excerpt:

The NSA Is Building the Country’s Biggest Spy Center (Watch What You Say)

...Under construction by contractors with top-secret clearances, the blandly named Utah Data Center is being built for the National Security Agency. A project of immense secrecy, it is the final piece in a complex puzzle assembled over the past decade. Its purpose: to intercept, decipher, analyze, and store vast swaths of the world’s communications as they zap down from satellites and zip through the underground and undersea cables of international, foreign, and domestic networks. The heavily fortified $2 billion center should be up and running in September 2013. Flowing through its servers and routers and stored in near-bottomless databases will be all forms of communication, including the complete contents of private emails, cell phone calls, and Google searches, as well as all sorts of personal data trails—parking receipts, travel itineraries, bookstore purchases, and other digital “pocket litter.” It is, in some measure, the realization of the “total information awareness” program created during the first term of the Bush administration—an effort that was killed by Congress in 2003 after it caused an outcry over its potential for invading Americans’ privacy.

But “this is more than just a data center,” says one senior intelligence official who until recently was involved with the program....

  17. Seeing what Obama has pushed on us since he was first sworn in, this does not come as a surprise; The man is truly committed, whether We, The People like it or not, to pretending the Constitution doesn't exist as he reshapes our government and our country into a dictatorship of the communists, by the communists and for the Sorosian leftists.

I shudder to think what we'll be left with if O remains in the White House for another term.

  18. So what is the big deal here?

The Bill states that in case of a national emergency or war the President has can take control of national resources.

Almost every other country in the world has that rule or an equivelant of it. It is, in fact, logical.

What you do not want, is in the time of a sudden war that puts lives and in fact national sovereignty at stake to have to go to court or somehow ask someone if we can take that 30million tonnes of coal to fight the war. During that time, going to Congress to enact such a thing fails if time precious.

What's the deal, did not it pass Congress?

  20. Mrs Wolf,
    Hello again!

Our Constitution is being destroyed before our very eyes!

For about a century, Presidents have been issuing executive orders. Actually, most Americans are unaware when the orders are issued and as to how many have actually been issued. HERE is a list of those executive orders.

"With a stroke of the pen" and all that, a President can indeed wield great power and, in some cases, clearly bypass Congress.

    Yes, indeed.

  22. AOW,

I read that, now tell me that you do not imagine that Obama will enact such a power without conflict or a national emergency. Really, the entire point I made is that such legislation is in fact common place and I am actually quite suprised that the US did not have it. In fact, I would argue that you have a big problem without it.

I do not see, even in the slightest, that any President, even a far-right-evangelical-ultra-nationalist President would be stupid enough to enact it without a major issue facing the nation.

That was why I mentioned it.

Oh, and somewhat Love. Can track any thought-criminal that way.

On topic: Okay, that is abusing executive order ability. To the extreme. It isn't suppose to allow a President-King, its suppose... wait, why does this exist in the first place?! If its for war, I think the 'Commander-in-Chief' of all military already provides for any need there. Whatever, in any case, its blatant abuse of that loophole. Aye yi yi, we will be a communist country in a few years at this rate!

  26. I'm sure not alone here. I got about 2 paragraphs into the Fox article on that Exec. order and saw where it was leading, and posted on it. Me and probably 1000 other bloggers.

    Here we go.....

  27. Wildstar,
As you have recently read Orwell's 1984, I thought that you would make that connection to my "Ugh" comment -- and rightly so.

We shall soon see if Obama will abuse that executive order. I put nothing past him, particularly if he thinks he'll lose the upcoming election.

    1. It's not legislation.

    2. There was already a sufficient executive order in place. Obama reworded this EO of his -- for a reason, I'm sure.
