On Saturday black Trump supporter Philip Anderson attended a rally for free speech in San Francisco. 

 Philip was attacked by an Antifa street thug while escorting a fellow conservative from the rally. Philip Anderson did not see the punch coming. 

He was sucker-punched by an Antifa thug and lost both of his front teeth while he was trying to help a fellow patriot get to the event safely....

We Can Never Go Back to Manderley Now

It is much easier to understand Franco if you understood his considerable talents, and the era he came from: Where literary giants like Norman Mailer, William F Buckley, Gay Talese and Gore Vidal thrusted and parried, as did poets, musicians and denizens of various artistic communities, jealously guarding their reputations in the clawing, catty, neverending fight for recognition, celebrating success, and celebrating the failures of your rivals.

He was a man of many talents and a fiery ego, although in person-to-person conversation he was gentle as a purring kitten.  His voice reminded me of a more baritone, less nasal Mark Steyn, and he had the wit to go along with it.

He was also incredibly generous.  He supported at least two families and people suffering from cancer, and his generosity extended to undocumented immigrants.  He went so far as to seek legal aid for a family he had grown close to.  He could argue vociferously on principles, but he loved people and pulled considerable amounts of money out of his bank account to help those who needed it, including the widow of our departed friend Jersey McJones.

He told me back in August he was ready to go.  Failing hands, failing eyesight, his disgust at the cultural rot encircling us...

I'll close with my favorite poem by him, made more poignant upon his death.

We Can Never Go Back to Manderley Now

Should I care if I get cancer

In this wretched, troubled, world

Where all seems swiftly headed towards the rocks?

Since we live with devolution,

Marred and poisoned with pollution

Cancer gives us absolution,

Since our kids don’t care enough to wear their socks.

RIP, Franco Aragosta/FreeThinke

Franco Aragosta (aka FreeThinke), one of the friends of this blog as well as my personal friend since 2012, passed away suddenly very early on the morning of October 7.  He would have turned 80 years old on his next birthday, in April.

This talented man was an accomplished pianist, an astute music critic, and a writer of poetry (both serious and light-hearted).  In fact, for years, he composed acrostic sonnets as a daily mind-sharpening exercise.  A Renaisssance Man in several ways!

I will miss him.

FreeThinke/Franco was quite fond of English composers and their works, particularly their lesser-known compositions.  Consequently, I am posting "In Moonlight," composed by English composer Sir Edward Elgar (1857-1934), in honor of Franco/FreeThinke:

New Addition To The Family!

Welcome, California Sky!  Aka "Callie."  This sweet girl takes tidbits carefully, never letting her teeth touch your fingers.  No doggie smell!  No doggie breath!

Around September 1, 2020, this photo, which appeared on our online neighborhood network, appeared with a desperate plea of needing to rehome a niece's three-year old hound mix (b. August 19, 2017).  She likely has Labrador Retriever in there, too:

...De Blasio says, with all the people leaving NYC, that we need to raise taxes on the rich AND “we have to redistribute income.” How about YOURS, your honor? He just announced he’d furlough his salary, but I suspect it’s a rebound from the terrible optics of “redistributing income.” To quote from his Wikipedia page: he did “a brief stint as a campaign manager for Charles Rangel and Hillary Clinton …[and] started his career as an elected official on the New York City Council. So your career never took you into the real world of working for a living. 

 Plus, he said restaurants would continue to be closed for indoor dining (only very reduced sidewalk dining), because dining out was “an activity for middle- and upper-income New Yorkers.” Really? Are these higher income folks the ones who 1) shop for the menu, 2) deliver food and supplies, 3) cook the food 4) serve the food, 5) bus the dishes, 6) wash the dishes, 7) clean up the restaurant, 8) ferry diners to the restaurant, 9) service the equipment, and 10) grow the food in the first place? CLUELESS!! 

We hear stories of people who stayed not working because the combined state and federal unemployment benefit (of which I received ZERO) was more than their salary. Then I ran into one. My locksmith had to furlough his helper in April. When he could work again and asked him to come back to work, he did not want to – and didn’t. It was because he made a lot more in gov’t $$$....

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A desk is not something normally on a back-to-school shopping list. But with so many families doing virtual learning, it has become a much-needed item. 

Gwinnett County mother Michelle Minor and her sons realized this and got to work. 

From her suburban garage and driveway, Michelle Minor and her sons are cranking out as many wooden desks as time allows.

The orders have come pouring in. Some families are paying for them. Others are donating, so families in need can have one built. 

“I’ve probably got about 30-40 desks that I need to make, and I just emailed this out last Wednesday,” Minor said. 

Minor does [all this] in between driving a Gwinnett County school bus. Her older son Skylar uses his math skills to help his mom out while third grader Chase does what he can too....

From Black Lives Matter holds rally in Chicago to support those arrested after looting, unrest:

Black Lives Matter members in Chicago held a rally on Monday to support the more than 100 arrested last night following widespread looting and rioting that caused at least $60 million in property damage and saw 13 police officers injured, according to a report.

 

The rally was organized by Black Lives Matter Chicago and was held at a police station in the South Loop where organizers say individuals are currently being held in custody. At least one organizer called the looting tantamount to "reparations."

There is a reasonable argument to be made that these riots were unprecedented in U.S. history — or at the very least, since the 1960s. Yet if one surveyed the national media today, you’d barely even know anything happened. Nor would you likely be aware that those who bore the brunt of the destruction — largely minorities whose sensibilities don’t fit into any neatly-delineated ideological category — are still acutely suffering from the fallout.

Yes, civil unrest has of course occurred before. But the riots of 2020 exhibited features which belie any easy historical parallel. For one thing, consider their enormous geographic scope. To take just a small sampling: Atlantic City, NJ, Fort Wayne, IN, Green Bay, WI, and Olympia, WA all underwent significant riots, at least per the normal expectations of life in these relatively low-key cities. Did you hear anything about them? Because I hadn’t, and I’m abnormally attuned to daily media coverage. Only because I personally visited did I learn of the damage.

The Daily Caller video below begins with a clip of Joe Biden garbling his words but then switches to a tough-guy character in a black t-shirt who recites Biden quotes like it’s poetry. It’s frightening because it’s so hard to believe that this candidate is the frontrunner who may win in November. The video is also funny because of the set-up of the background music and ‘Noir’ lighting....

How can any American consider voting for this man?

By the way, when Biden appears with it for a few minutes, I surmise that he's been injected with B Vitamins and vasodilators. That combination helped my grandmothers to be think and function normally, albeit temporarily.

No Way to Choose a President

"Where's the Beef?"

Debates are a crappy way to choose a president.  What do they prove? How does winning one of these Jerry Springer spectacles of jabs, jibes, japes and carefully-crafted one-liners prove one's readiness for leading the most powerful nation in the world?

Many argue they are not even debates.  Others argue they should only be held once the primary field is winnowed to two candidates, but I maintain they are worthless for determining who the best candidate is.

A much better test would be to subject each candidate to a brutally-dense power point presentation of bureaucratic gibberish and policy gobbledygook, ask them to arrive at a decision, and then quiz them on the consequences of their course of action.

"Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy"

NBC's 10 Presidential Debates That Actually Made an Impact prove my point.  Each example is from the modern TV era and relies heavily on optics and visual impressions.  Lord Bentsen from the State of Texaco reduced Dan Quayle to a grade school boy in short pants, but Bush-Quayle won anyway.

Face it, we are far removed from the famous Lincoln-Douglas debates. The men were competing for one of Illinois's Senate seats, which at that time were appointed by the state legislature, but they are exemplars of debates of that era, and the format is timeless, harkening back to the ancient Greeks and Romans.

We wouldn't have patience today for that format, in our pathos-drenched, logo-less world where ethos has been reduced to Maoist mob shaming and twitter scolding.

The modern day presidential "debate" needs to be scrapped.  There's gotta be a better way.

Halliburton was, if I read the sources correctly, a black professor.

Another publication, by a black professor named Gates in THE ROOT, has an article discussing “Did Black People Own Slaves?”

Also, there’s RED OVER BLACK: Black Slavery Among the Cherokee Indians, by Halliburton.

Then there’s this paragraph from TOWNHALL’s “Six inconvenient truths about US and slavery:

SLAVERY EXISTED ONLY BRIEFLY, AND IN LIMITED LOCALES, IN THE HISTORY OF THE REPUBLIC – INVOLVING ONLY A TINY PERCENTAGE OF THE ANCESTORS OF TODAY’S AMERICANS. The Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution put a formal end to the institution of slavery 89 years after the birth of the Republic; 142 years have passed since this welcome emancipation. Moreover, the importation of slaves came to an end in 1808 (as provided by the Constitution), a mere 32 years after independence, and slavery had been outlawed in most states decades before the Civil War. Even in the South, more than 80% of the white population never owned slaves. Given the fact that the majority of today’s non-black Americans descend from immigrants who arrived in this country after the War Between the States, only a tiny percentage of today’s white citizens – perhaps as few as 5% — bear any authentic sort of generational guilt for the exploitation of slave labor. Whatever. I know that I’m gettin truly weary of hearin about it all. Seemed to me we were doin pretty well in this category before Barry & Mooch came along.

Have WE THE PEOPLE been bamboozled? 

"Science" has made Americans cower in their homes, skip routine medical appointments, wear suffocating masks, hold classes and book club discussions on Zoom or other online platform relying on pixels so as to see another human being's face, lose all sorts of day-to-day gregarious activities which make life worth living, cancel church services, suffer even more isolation in their Golden Years, require appointments for something as simple as getting new eyeglasses, accept an unacceptable "new normal" — and much more.

Is all of the above really necessary to ensure our good health, our very survival?  Or is a wicked experiment being conducted?

From What if we’ve all been primed?:

We’re all in this together. Stay home. Stay safe. We’ll get through this. It’s our new normal.

These words have been repeated so many times, you’d think they’re used for selling the latest superfood.

They’re not selling a superfood, but is it possible they’re trying to sell us something?

A while back, my friend Ed Bonderenka posted this comment to a different thread here at this blog:

There is an acceptance of the abuses to our sovereignty because of fear.

People wearing masks while driving, walking alone.

It's either virtue signalling or fear.

Or, I add now, these behaviors are the result of behavioral priming.  Deliberate behavioral priming with the ultimate goal of what, exactly?  The noble goal of saving lives — as we've been told over and over?
