In a healthy society with a well-functioning government, that should be a rare occasion. We are an unhealthy, neo-pagan, deranged society ruled by a cowardly criminal class, so it is logical vigilantism is on the rise.

  4. I ALL cases above, Kyle Rittenhouse was RETREATING from his PURSUERS.

    from "American Thinker"

Jurors need to understand the simple concept of din rodef, "the law of the pursuer." This gives defense attorneys a single word – rodef -- to explain the concept if jurors are not already familiar with it.

    Rodef = One Who Pursues

A rodef (plural rodfim) is somebody who pursues somebody else with the objective of causing death or serious physical injury. Din rodef entitles the one pursued, or a bystander, to use reasonable force, up to and including deadly force, to stop the rodef from completing the intended violent crime. The principle is actually very similar to most modern laws. Deadly force cannot be used if lesser force will suffice, and the rodef ceases to be a rodef the instant he desists from his violent actions. Din rodef is also reflected by the modern adages (in the context of a fight or argument) such as "Never follow anybody into the parking lot" and "Never follow the other guy home" because these are prima facie evidence of malicious and violent intent. It's hard for a rodef to claim innocence or self-defense when things go bad.

Revealed: Suspect, 48, in Fatal Shooting of Patriot Prayer Supporter is Dad-of-two Who Describes Himself as '100% ANTIFA' and 'Took a Loaded Gun to a Portland Protest [Riot] Earlier this Year'

    Daily Mail (UK)

    by Lauren Fruen

The suspect under investigation following the fatal shooting of a Patriot Prayer supporter has been named as a dad-of-two who describes himself as '100% ANTIFA'.

Michael Forest Reinoehl, 48, was named by The Oregonian Sunday evening as someone police are investigating.

He had already been accused of taking a loaded gun to an earlier Portland protest and social media posts show him attending Black Lives Matter protests.

Patriot Prayer founder Joey Gibson identified the victim of Saturday night's shooting as Aaron 'Jay' Danielson ... But he's also been very impulsive and irrational.'

When the Government fails to enforce its laws and abrogates its responsibilities. When it turns its back and refuses to protect its law abiding citizens against the depredations of packs of hyenas; it should expect that the citizens will take matters in their own hands.
We are not peasants or peons, we are a free people with natural rights that cannot be taken away. A government that thinks that violence or self-defense is reserved exclusively to the State is a danger to its citizens.

“In Defense of Looting”? Seriously, Leftist Author Went There

    Excerpt:

Writer Vicky Osterweil’s book, In Defense of Looting, came out on Tuesday. When she finished it, back in April, she wrote (rather presciently) that “a new energy of resistance is building across the country.” Now, as protests and riots continue to grip cities, she argues that looting is a powerful tool to bring about real, lasting change in society.

The rioters who smash windows and take items from stores, she says, are engaging in a powerful tactic that questions the justice of “law and order,” and the distribution of property and wealth in an unequal society.

  8. What led to the Kyle Rittenhouse shooting was a decision by a 17 year old boy waking up one day and deciding to cross state lines to insert himself into a potentially dangerous situation in which he had no stake.

Had he stayed home, in his own state, he would not be in jail today.

If we are going to take the stance that those killed by police bear responsibility because they didn't follow the law when confronted by police, shouldn't we expect the same of Rittenhouse? After all, he is a minor, not legally permitted to carry a firearm in Wisconsin.

What led to the Kyle Rittenhouse shooting was a decision by a 17 year old boy waking up one day and deciding to cross state lines to insert himself into a potentially dangerous situation in which he had no stake.

I'm not sure how it started. I think I read that he went there to scrub off graffiti. Why was he armed? Probably something in his upbringing. Or perhaps the gun wasn't his but rather a loaner from someone in Kenosha. From what I understand, it is not a crime for a 16-year-old to be loaned a long rifle in Wisconsin -- and, obviously, to carry that long arm in the open. Here in Virginia, BTW, we can carry a handgun in the open, with certain exceptions (parks, schools, etc.).

I haven't had time to research what his parents have said -- if anything.

Please see What to know about Wisconsin's open-carry laws, self defense and more in Kenosha protest shootings.

There is a lot of information in the above, including the following:

Rittenhouse did not own the gun, his lawyer said Friday.

"Kyle did not carry a gun across state line," L. Lin Wood said in a tweet Friday morning. "The gun belonged to his friend, a Wisconsin resident. The gun never left the state of Wisconsin."

In case you haven't noticed, the situation was already out of control. Or perhaps looting, arson, destruction of public and private property, plus unprovoked attacks on law abiding citizens, are the norm in the crap hole you live in.

      Delete
    11. Mustang and others... look, I'm not going to defend the rioters. They were/are wrong. Society never wins when destruction is used to "make your point" or to cause pain to bring ppl to the table. Believe me, I've seen it close up, first hand in Oaxaca, Mexico during the teacher strikes of 2006.

To this day, the city has never been the same.

I appreciate you recognizing that if this guy had just stayed home, he would not have been in danger, would not have killed anyone, and would not be in jail.

If we hold the rioters responsible for their actions and assign them blame for their actions, surely we must do the same with Kyle.

And whether or not he could serve in the military at age 17 is not germane. He is legally a minor, though I am sure he will be charged as an adult.

Ed, I may have erred if in fact Kyle borrowed the gun after arriving in WI. Here's the applicable law on gun possession in Wisconsin...

"948.60 Possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under 18. ... (a) Any person under 18 years of age who possesses or goes armed with a dangerous weapon is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor."

Kyle was under 18, and armed, unsupervised. Thus, he broke the law.

I stand by my statement above...

Had he stayed home, in his own state, he would not be in jail today.

If these rioters had stayed home, Kyle Rittenhouse wouldn't have shot anyone.

As for Wisconsin law, there is more to it that the Class A Misdemeanor phrase. The gun laws there are quite convoluted.

My belief is that the young man was faced with a choice. Risk being killed or saving his own life.

If there is one cautionary note, it is someone still so young and not under chain of command, seeking to do the right thing. A man in his 20's or 30's might be equal in taking the shot, but maturity and experience also have play in understanding ThreatCon and surveillance of the surroundings.

I still support the right of each individual to self-preservation in the face of violent attack.
