Deus Ex Machina

by Sam Huntington

Dr. Victor Davis Hanson’s recent article, “The Neurotic Middle East” is a worthwhile read (follow the link). He writes, in part:

“Finally, what accounts for Middle Eastern neuroticism? A sense of collective inferiority, a feeling that life is pretty miserable, when it need not be — and that the causes are foreign rather than homegrown. Exasperated Arab secular intellectuals sometimes confess that tribalism in place of meritocracy, statism in place of free markets, authoritarianism in place of consensuality, religious fundamentalism in place of tolerance, censorship in place of transparency, and gender apartheid in place of sexual equality combine in the Middle East to ensure poverty and violence.”

He’s right about that, but ignores the fact that there is a reason most Arabs feel inferior to everyone else. Even more interesting (to me, at least), is how mullahs and autocratic leaders use this neurotic condition to their advantage.

A reasonably educated person can’t help but to notice that in the early-20th Century, prominent despots garnered popular support by focusing national criticism on one ethnic group, blaming them for all the ills of society, causing everyone to line up in opposition to that minority group. No surprise, this is the Phase I strategy used by Middle Eastern leaders, only on a much grander scale: pointing to Americans, or Europeans, or Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, and Jews as culturally or religiously inferior.

In Phase II, Middle Eastern leaders wind up all their retards and send them out to implement “jihad” (which I define as acute ‘moronism’), the net effect of which is that retards are unable to plot uprisings against their Middle Eastern mullahs and autocratic leaders.

This is a very crafty ploy … but there’s more.

Has anyone ever wondered how many “back channel” deposits are being made into the off shore accounts of American politicians: payments made by rich oil sheikhs to prevent America from developing its vast domestic oil and gas resources? As mullahs and oil sheikhs are making money hand over fist from American (and European) petroleum consumers, they send out their idiots to “terrorize” Western civilizations, which naturally help bolster demands for even more government spending to protect the homeland —a gift to control freak politicians.

One may recall the campaign finance controversy known as Chinagate. This was an effort by the People’s Republic of China to influence American elections during the 1996 general election. This incident first received public attention with news that a Justice Department investigation uncovered evidence that agents of China sought to direct contributions to the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in violation of US law regarding foreign political contributions. This was back when the US still had independent journalists, of course. China denied these allegations, but the investigation resulted in convictions of 22 people, several of these were associates of Bill Clinton and Al Gore. GASP!

While the Justice Department investigated, an indignant republican senator from Tennessee announced his intention to conduct a congressional investigation. We can’t have democrats accepting foreign money; it’s un-American. The investigation began with ruffles and flourishes, but ended somewhat abruptly after four or five weeks. Ostensibly, the reason for this was that acceptance of foreign money is so prevalent within the Congress of the United States it would have been detrimental to both parties to pursue the investigation. We can’t have that … no.

While Dr. Hanson’s article is critical of the Middle East, and while everything he asserts is true, Americans are hardly in any position to criticize others. We the people have allowed the most despicable people to control us; we refuse to stand up to over-reaching politicians; we elect (and reelect) corrupt officials and then pretend their temerity is an affront to our values. Middle Eastern mullahs and oil sheikhs control us, elected officials control us, and both are making ungodly sums of money in the bargain. But even this isn't the most surprising thing.

The most surprising thing is that we aren't sending out our disaffected citizens to blow up disaffected Arabs in the name of our god, Obama.

  1. I always enjoy reading VDH, I respect his view on the Middle East. He suggested that we all make a 'mohammed video', if everybody made them and if everybody published the cartoons etc, then perhaps the Muslims would get tired of protesting every day, they can't protest everybody. But we know them, they don't need a reason to rampage, it just comes naturally.

  2. It is still my contention that the greatest erro our Founders made was not to include in the constitution, one six year term limit on all ellected Federal offices.

  3. At the time of the so called "dark ages"' the Moslems were an advanced society. Much of the Enlightment was a result from the contact with the Middle East. The rise and fall of societies are complex. In the end, the strong survive, the weak are defeated.

  4. Neurotic? I can't imagine why...

The psychological explanation of this. To derive something unknown from something familiar relieves, comforts, and satisfies, besides giving a feeling of power. With the unknown, one is confronted with danger, discomfort, and care; the first instinct is to abolish these painful states. First principle: any explanation is better than none. Since at bottom it is merely a matter of wishing to be rid of oppressive representations, one is not too particular about the means of getting rid of them: the first representation that explains the unknown as familiar feels so good that one "considers it true." The proof of pleasure ("of strength") as a criterion of truth.

The causal instinct is thus conditional upon, and excited by, the feeling of fear. The "why?" shall, if at all possible, not give the cause for its own sake so much as for a particular kind of cause--a cause that is comforting, liberating, and relieving. That it is something already familiar, experienced, and inscribed in the memory, which is posited as a cause, that is the first consequence of this need. That which is new and strange and has not been experienced before, is excluded as a cause. Thus one searches not only for some kind of explanation to serve as a cause, but for a particularly selected and preferred kind of explanation--that which has most quickly and most frequently abolished the feeling of the strange, new, and hitherto unexperienced: the most habitual explanations. Consequence: one kind of positing of causes predominates more and more, is concentrated into a system and finally emerges as dominant, that is, as simply precluding other causes and explanations. The banker immediately thinks of "business," the Christian of "sin," and the girl of her love.

...and the "Jew" (or Westerner) as the "cause" of all Arab problems.

  5. SF is right: it is a rigged game. Why is this so? We have to go back and evaluate why Americans don't understand the pressing issues, what is going on in the Congress, or in the Executive Mansion. Our problem is a pathetically under-educated electorate. The tea-leaves aren't looking too good, at least not from where I’m sitting.

  6. A FRIEND OF MINE JUST SENT ME THIS

God forbid - that obama gets reelected, maybe Japan would be a safer place to be should he be reelected.

    In GOD we Trust

Have you ever read in the newspaper that a political leader or a prime minister from an Islamic nation has visited Japan ?
Have you ever come across news that the King of Iran or a Saudi Arabia prince has visited Japan ?
Japan , a Country keeping Islam at bay.
Japan has put strict restrictions on Islam and
    ALL Muslims.
    The reasons are:
    a) Japan is the only nation that does not give citizenship to Muslims.
    b) In Japan permanent residency is not given to Muslims.
    c) There is a strong ban on the propagation of Islam in Japan .
    d) In the University of Japan , Arabic or any Islamic language is not taught.
    e) One cannot import ‘Koran’ published in Arabic language.
    f) According to data published by Japanese government, it has given temporary residency to only 2 lakhs Muslims, who need to follow the Japanese Law of the Land. These Muslims should speak Japanese and carry their religious rituals in their homes.
    g) Japan is the only country in the world that has a negligible number of embassies of Islamic countries.
    h) Japanese people are not attracted to Islam at all.
    i) Muslims residing in Japan are the employees of foreign companies.
    j) Even today visas are not granted to Muslim doctors, engineers or managers sent by foreign companies.
    k) In the majority of companies, it is stated in their regulations that no Muslims should apply for a job.
    l) The Japanese government is of the opinion that Muslims are fundamentalist and even in the era of globalization, they are not willing to change their Muslim laws.
    m) Muslims can not even think about getting a rented house in Japan .
    n) If anyone comes to know that his neighbor is a Muslim then the whole neighbourhood stays alert.
    o) No one can start an Islamic cell or Arabic ‘Madarsa’
    in Japan
    p) There is no personal (Sharia) law in Japan .
    q) If a Japanese woman marries a Muslim then she is considered an outcast forever.
    r) According to Mr. Komico Yagi (Head of Department, Tokyo University ) “There is a mind frame in Japan that Islam is a very narrow minded religionand one should stay away from it.”
    s) Freelance journalist Mohammed Juber toured many Islamic countries after 9/11 including Japan . He found that the Japanese were confident that extremists could do no harm in Japan .
    Now you know...

  7. I found this of particular interest:

"Has anyone ever wondered how many “back channel” deposits are being made into the off shore accounts of American politicians: payments made by rich oil sheikhs to prevent America from developing its vast domestic oil and gas resources?

I have to admit I never quite thought of it that way before. It seems plausible enough -- certainly a tenable theory -- but is there sufficient documented evidence to back it up, or is it just surmise -- "perception" -- an educated guess?

  8. Jon,

Japan is an avowedly racist state -- and more power to them. When I consider what Marxian-Socialist-Liberal-Progressive concepts of "Inclusiveness" and Multiculturalism have done to the West, I shudder in horror and revulsion.

HOWEVER, they don't want you -- or I -- or any of "us" -- anymore than they want the Muslims. Unless I am very sadly mistaken only native born Japanese are permitted Japanese citizenship. A certain number of foreigners stay there for protracted periods of time for BUSINESS purposes only. They may spend money there, of course, but they cannot participate in any policy-making decisions regarding Japanese life.

And please don't forget the Japanese were as ruthlessly barbarous and vicious a people as any Muslims UNTIL we tamed them with Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and our aggressive policy of rebuilding and REFORMING Japan in the years immediately following the war the JAPANESE started.

I am so old I still remember the war. As a result I have harbored a lifelong distrust and a healthy fear of Asians.

We've been so busy beating ourselves up with ill-conceived, badly-motivated, truly TREASONOUS "Historical Revisionism" since the Curse of Nuremberg ceded TREMENDOUS power to liberal forces antithetical to The American Way of Life, that generations twice removed from mine are dangerously out-of-touch with reality.

I realize more and more that Nuremberg was watershed, and was a major force in initiating and implementing The Parallel Universe in which leftists have militantly confused with with Reality ever since.

In short we've been conquered not with guns or the hydrogen bomb but by INTELLECTUAL AGGRESSION -- the most powerful force on earth.

  9. Freethinke,
You are certainly wise to 'harbour a lifelong distrust and a healthy fear of Asians'.
Those Asians and Middle Esterners (whether they are Moslems or of Other Faith or Nonbelievers) should respect the Westerners need to retain the Western European identity, Western European civilisation, Western European culture, Western European laws, etc, just as much as they want to retain their own Asian, Middle Eastern, Oriental or Moslem culture in their own backward Asian, Middle Eastern, Africa countries.
I am disgusted by those horrible Asians, Middle Easterners, African or Moslems tactics that often misused their their inferiority complex, that are so often projected via their supremacist ideology or supremacist eastern culture or brutal or crude extremist bullying tactics that demand a horrendous amount of undeserved respect for their horrible Moslems, Asians, Oriental, Middle Eastern, African characteristics, that showed up so frequently at the door of Western European civilisation.

  10. Wlil,

I'll make them a deal, real simple. I won't go to your $#!t hole if you don't come here. That should be easy, for me, why would I ever want to go there anyway?

  11. Jonberg,

Indeed, why should any Westerners continue to waste their time, expertise, resources on or in Asia, Middle East or Africa, that produced retardation, enslavement, backwardness, endless misery and rarely return anything substantial or good back?
