The Slippery Slope

Last week, Reliapundit of THE ASTUTE BLOGGERS called to my attention the short audio below. Worthy of your consideration whether or not you are a fan of Rush Limbaugh:

Limbaugh does not say that Obama could well justify other dictatorial deeds with the words "It's the right thing to do!" However, is not that statement part of all utopianism?

And what does all utopianism bring, sooner or later?

A few quotations about utopias from a variety of individuals:
“Eager souls, mystics and revolutionaries, may propose to refashion the world in accordance with their dreams; but evil remains, and so long as it lurks in the secret places of the heart, utopia is only the shadow of a dream”
Nathaniel Hawthorne

"Idealism is the noble toga that political gentlemen drape over their will to power."
Aldous Huxley

“If people would forget about utopia! When rationalism destroyed heaven and decided to set it up here on earth, that most terrible of all goals entered human ambition. It was clear there'd be no end to what people would be made to suffer for it.”
Nadine Gordimer (recipient of the Nobel Prize in 1991)

"All paradises, all utopias are designed by who is not there, by the people who are not allowed in."

Toni Morrison (recipient of the Pulitzer Prize in 1987, the Nobel Prize in 1993, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012)

"Utopia is that which is in contradiction with reality."

Albert Camus, Between Hell and Reason

  2. Utopia? Well at least the left wants to put some effort into the here and now and not completely avoid the issue of progress.

As capitalism devours everything in its past, just as Marx correctly predicted it would do we get the inevitable Fascist movements like the Tea Party which look to blame the weak. Very Christian.

And they know the race to the bottom is accelerating and the violence and gun rhetoric from the right is heating up but its assumed that the usual targets will bear the brunt.

I don't believe this is the proper vision of America. Not my America at any rate and if it is, well the only Christian response to this Calvinist disgrace is to piss on it.

  3. Duck,
the inevitable Fascist movements like the Tea Party which look to blame the weak

Ahem. It is now the Obama administration saying that those who don't buy health insurance must stop freeloading or pay the penalty, the term penalty being the administration's spin on the SCOTUS ruling declaring that the levy is a tax.

As for Calvinism, this post isn't about Calvinism.

  4. Liberalmann,
It is Obama who is America's premier divider.

Get off whatever it is that you are swilling or otherwise ingesting. Sheesh.

  5. I don't understand why pseudo-conservatives are upset. It's not like Justice Roberts took a mistress to Tiffany's.

Your Medicare junkie fix is "constitutional" now.

  6. Yeah completely insane idead from Rush.....oh wait then I remembered Gov Democrat Perdue NC said this

"I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won't hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover. I really hope that someone can agree with me on that," Perdue said. "You want people who don't worry about the next election."

It was reported she said this with a level tone and even asked for support for her idea.

  7. Rush is working on a theme or hypothesis. The hypothesis is that Mr. Obama does not believe in the COnstitution. ok I know it is a pursuit easily proved bsaed on Mr.Obama's own words before he was elected. Rush is putting together the various breaches of law since that elections recess appointments that were not, czars, immigration, obamacare includeing the provision requiring faith based groups to provide services that conflict, military action without congress, and who knows what else. Rush is taking that evidence and suggesting future actions. If the RNC had bothered to engage themselves they might consider following a similiar train of thought. It was embaraassing and showed extreme ineptitude last week as they pined away on Holder only to look like petty fools as America lost in the areas of immigration, healthcare, and the case of fast and furious was closed without any one being held responsible. Buffoons and amateurs. What did America get in exchange.....its a tax stupid. DUH

  8. As to our healthcare being Constitutional. The Supreme Court once decided a Black persons vote was not equal to a white persons vote. IN other words sometimes they get it wrong.

Roberts did not want to get caught being the only one to stand agaiinst this. So he caved.

I think it was Ben Franklin who said something like a Republic if you can keep it. We are losing it folks.

  9. Blogginator,
Thanks for that reminder as to what Governor Perdue said:

"I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won't hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover. I really hope that someone can agree with me on that.

This regime in power right now does not intend to give up that power. Believe it! Because that's going to be the crux of the matter if Romney doesn't win in a landslide.

  10. Beamish,
Your Medicare junkie fix is "constitutional" now.

Yes, the ruling does include that aspect.

Did you really think that something else was going to happen?

  11. The left wants to put some effort into the here and now???

By spending us into oblivion? What is the goal of the left exactly? Bankruptcy?

How exactly does bankrupting the US help the poor? Well the system collapses like it is in towns in California, Greece and elsewhere in the World, the poor get hurt the most.

Sure the rich benefit by a Conservative economy but so do the poor and the middle class and get money by their labor not by hand outs. There was a time in America when we felt shameful to take handouts. We wanted to work for whatever we had.

I guess pride also has to be sacrified for the glory of moving forward. I guess I wonder what we are moving forward to.

  12. The current Medicare system is bankrupt. They had to have a new program to cover the fact they mismanaged the current program. But dont worry they got it worked out now. No more mismanagement of funds like education, social security, posatl service etc etc etc. trust us we have it worked out.

A few death panels should cull the herd and put us right back on solvency....

  13. Divide and conqure is a concept as old as time. Obama is one of the betterr students of that concept. It will take a landslide victory by the Republicans in November for America to have even a small chance of changing course.

  14. @ Liberalmann: More lies, hate and fear from America's premier divider.

I'm glad to see you've finally recognized Obama for what he really is...

And Ducky... Thank you for the continuous stream of hilarity. Yeah, if we would just ditch capitalism all would be well...

  15. Yeah? Explain to me how you believe Obama has divided us with hate, lies and fear.

  16. Liberalmann,
    Surely you jest!

I don't have time right now to type in a lengthy comment as I'm headed off to bed after three days of exhausting post-storm-from-hell work and evening running of errands.

THIS ARTICLE is a good place to start. I chose that particular article because Obama's leaping to a conclusion based on race instead of even knowing the facts (He admitted that he didn't know the facts) when he came down on the side of the Harvard professor in the incident with the Cambridge Police Department (July 2009).

  17. There was another article in which the Democrats conceded there was little point going for white middle voters. I think it was the NYT. Only a racist thinks that way.

As you leftists are so fond of saying the President should represent all people. Of course you only say things like that when it is a conservative. When its a liberals the rest of us can go to hell (Maxine Waters?).

Lies How about Gitmo? Still open and they got a new soccerfield for about 800 million.

Unemployment will never go below 8% if we agree to the stupidity of the porkulous.

Shovel ready jobs.....lol the only thing shovel ready are these old tired ideas that communism can work...

  18. Your two libs prove that Rush is effective. No wonder they want to silence him.

And thanks to Silverfiddle for pointing out who the real divider is.

Obama is the most polarizing and divisive President in history and that's the conclusion from yearly Gallup surveys and not just my opinion.

  19. Mike,
We can muster all the facts in the world. The Left will never heed those facts.

I wonder how many Leftists actually abandon Leftism and move to the Right.

  20. Did you really think that something else was going to happen?

With all the hard work wild-eyed Communists like Michelle Bachmann put into passing Obamacare, it was pretty much a done deal.
