Further Into The Depts Of Absurdity

(Two posts today. Please scroll down)

From NewsBusters, HERE is your post-Thanksgiving reading, utter stupidity spouted by Professor Melissa Harris-Perry of Tulane University and MSNBC commentator.

Excerpt:

SHARPTON: Give me your idea of the kinds of things people ought to deal with this Thursday when their families and friends get together.

HARRIS-PERRY: You know, it's an interesting question. I've been thinking a lot about Thanksgiving and the moment that we're in because, you know, our economic crisis right now is highly tied to the European economic crisis and so I was thinking about kind of what is that first Thanksgiving when these illegal immigrants from Europe come over and are fed by the people of the actual Americas, the Native and indigenous people, you know, here on this land, that they are trying to escape religious prosecution and persecution in Europe and then you have the Europeans basically calling them dirty, no good, worthless, basically 99 percenters, right? And all of that is now playing out in a different way as we see the 99 percent pushing back against this idea that the elites are the only one that deserve to have a Thanksgiving dinner. All of that.
Audio HERE. For someone with a degree in English, Dr. Harris-Perry seems to have little regard for sentence structure. Heh.

According to Melissa Harris-Perry's web site, she is a professor of political science and the founding director of the Anna Julia Cooper Project on Gender, Race, and Politics in the South. She has previously taught at the University of Chicago and Princeton University.

Check out Tulane University's schedule of 2011-2012 tuition and fees HERE. The word "rip-off" springs to mind. Unless parents are seeking to have their children brainwashed, that is.

  1. What? HUH?!?

I read that paragraph three times and I can't get my mind around it. I even listened to the audio.

    Was this 'professor' high?

  2. A professor? Sounds like she got her B.S in BS!

This is the kind of sophomoric, tendentious false equivalency that passes for deep thought on the left. Worse, you and I probably paid for her worthless education.

    They are intellectually bereft.

  3. Here is yet another reason why I think today's college degrees are worth spit. $50,000.00 to have that moron in front of your classroom ... I think not!

  4. Wait until we get a whole generation of College Graduates who attended online classes and never interacted with humans for the most part. Now that is something to look forward to.

  5. What the heck can anybody say to THIS?
By the way, I can barely tell what she's saying, either, but what I can grasp, she's dead wrong.

  6. It reads like a parody.

  7. *scatches head* Well, from what I can make of that really bad paragraph, I'm kinda curious what's wrong with it. The bolded part at least sounds like what was taught to me in private school. Besides the fact you can barely read it, what's so off?

  8. Libs open their mouths and I think of old SNL skits. Or maybe In Living Color.

  9. Wildstar,
Historical error: that the Pilgrims were illegal immigrants.

    From Wikipedia (for convenience):

In June 1619,... the Congregation obtained a land patent from the London Virginia Company...

Yes, the Pilgrims were fed by the Indians -- to a certain extent, anyway. The arrivals to the New World had a lot to learn about indigenous cultivatable crops.

Grammatically, much of the paragraph does consist of run ons, run togethers, and ramblers.

  10. And one more thing, Wildstar.

The European arrivals to the New World came here in the era of Colonialism. Immigration as we think of it today did not exist.

  11. The use of the term "illegal immigrant" presumes existence of

*A nation with legally recognized borders, which would include a standing military for defense of sovereignty

*Immigration policy in place which includes treaties with other nations

    *Ports of entry

The professor is a historical revisionist who shows blatant bias and lack of a grasp of American tradition. Thanksgiving Day did not even become a national holiday until the 20th century, did it?

But lack of gratitude seems to be the primary character deficit, based on the bitter remarks.

  12. Tammy,
This kind of revisionism pervades our education system and our media. It's become an uphill battle to combat such revisionism.

  13. As several have noted here, families are paying exorbitant tuition fees to pay for their offspring's indoctrination in revisionism.

Fact: Students do tend to accept whatever their "expert" teachers tell them.

Is it any wonder that we have so many young Occupiers these days?

  14. OH - MY- GOD! The first pilgrims were illegal aliens? You mean the Indians had laws against people coming in ships and we broke those laws?

Doesn't this dumbo know that those pilgrims almost died the first winter, but they got it together and did well the second year, well enough to have a feast of thanks and INVITED THE INDIANS TO THEIR FEAST?

Talk about revisionism. Wow. What a dunderhead.

  15. My guess is that many students in our education system are indeed being taught that the Pilgrims were illegal immigrants.

Those with children might want to ask if their children have heard this lie.

  16. Black Sheep,
I had to laugh when I read your comment. Well said!

  17. Chuck,
It IS like an SNL skit.

But it's from "an expert." Sheesh.
