Something that I would like to discuss: President of Egypt Gave Speech Obama Should Have Delivered in Cairo. Video:
Transcript of the above:
Is it possible that 1.6 billion people [Muslims] should want to kill the rest of the world’s inhabitants—that is 7 billion—so that they themselves may live? Impossible!
I am saying these words here at Al Azhar, before this assembly of scholars and ulema—Allah Almighty be witness to your truth on Judgment Day concerning that which I’m talking about now.
All this that I am telling you, you cannot feel it if you remain trapped within this mindset. You need to step outside of yourselves to be able to observe it and reflect on it from a more enlightened perspective.
I say and repeat again that we are in need of a religious revolution. You, imams, are responsible before Allah. The entire world, I say it again, the entire world is waiting for your next move… because this umma is being torn, it is being destroyed, it is being lost—and it is being lost by our own hands.
Political correctness and speech codes on campus are a direct result of Universities abandoning the Western Canon which recognized a person's right to both "offend" others AND love thy neighbor.
ReplyDelete"Tradition cannot be inherited, and if you want it you must obtain it by great labour. It involves, in the first place, the historical sense, which we may call nearly indispensable to anyone who would continue to be a poet beyond his twenty-fifth year; and the historical sense involves a perception, not only of the pastness of the past, but of its presence; the historical sense compels a man to write not merely with his own generation in his bones, but with a feeling that the whole of the literature of Europe from Homer and within it the whole of the literature of his own country has a simultaneous existence and composes a simultaneous order. This historical sense, which is a sense of the timeless as well as of the temporal and of the timeless and of the temporal together, is what makes a writer traditional. And it is at the same time what makes a writer most acutely conscious of his place in time, of his contemporaneity."

A must-read: Ex-Muslim Girlfriend of Murdered Hebdo Cartoonist, “No Moderate Islam”.
ReplyDeleteDudley Dunwell said:
DeleteA French minister said there was no such thing as moderate Islam, calling recent election successes by Islamic parties in Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia “worrying” in an interview published Saturday.
Frumda yotticle:
'Jeannette Bougrab, a junior minister with responsibility for youth, told Le Parisien newspaper that legislation based on Islamic sharia law “inevitably” imposed restrictions on rights and freedoms.'''
'Bougrab is of Algerian origin, whose father fought on the French colonial side during Algeria’s war of independence, and said she was speaking as “a French woman of Arab origin.”'
'“It’s very worrying,” she was quoted as saying. “I don’t know of any moderate Islam.”'
My good friend Jason Pappashad this to say about al-Sisi's speech and accidentally posted the comment to the thread below.
ReplyDeleteHere is Jason's comment:
Sisi is doing more than just giving a speech about reforming Islam. He’s established a totalitarian state. Previous dictators jailed activist Brotherhood members but left educational and religious institutions in the hands of their sympathizers. The Brotherhood support in recent elections must have shocked secular Muslims. From the little I have read, Sisi has taken over religious institutions. Friday sermons are not written by a central authority and the same exact sermon is given in every mosque.
Recently a document was signed by 126 Islamic authorities rejecting, in depth, the theology of the Islamic State. Only 1 signer was from Saudi Arabia and 2 were from Pakistan. I found that all 3 are Sufi. About 1/3 of the signers were from Egypt. One American Muslim complained that the document was basically Sufi (see ISIL’s wiki article for reference) and cronies of the Egyptian government. I suspect Sisi is doing more than giving a speech. Will it play outside of Egypt?
Could someone please explain this statement? It doesn't make sense as written:
Delete"Sisi has taken over religious institutions. Friday sermons are not written by a central authority and the same exact sermon is given in every mosque."
If sermons are NOT written by "a central authority," how would it it be possible for "the exact same sermon" to be given everywhere every Friday?
Surely Mr. Pappas should have left out the "not," or don't you agree?
It makes sense with a "now written" for "not written", above.

ReplyDelete700,000 People Rally in France After Jihadist Attacks: Minister
Paris (AFP) - Around 700,000 people have poured out onto the streets of France on Saturday to pay tribute to the 17 people killed during three days of terror, the interior minister said.
"700,000 people have marched" in cities around France, Bernard Cazeneuve told reporters on the eve of a rally in Paris he said would likely attract "several hundred thousand" people, as well as a string of world leaders.

Warning: Stephen Pollard, editor of the Jewish Chronicle, says that Jews are fleeing France and this will increase because of today's terror attack
Jews are fleeing terror-hit Paris because of growing anti-Semitism in France, one of Britain's most influential Jewish journalists said today.
Stephen Pollard, editor of the Jewish Chronicle, spoke out after an Islamic terrorist took six people hostage and held them captive in a Kosher supermarket in the French capital.
This afternoon police ordered all shops in a famous Jewish neighborhood in central Paris to close.
The mayor's office in Paris announced the closure of shops along the Rosiers street in Paris' Marais neighborhood, in the heart of the tourist district and less than a mile away from the offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo where 12 people were killed on Wednesday.
Hours before the Jewish Sabbath, the street is usually crowded with French Jews and tourists alike. ...
There is a sickness in the umma, and the west cannot cure it. Muslims must clean up their own house.
ReplyDeletePerhaps Sisi will become the 21st century Attaturk?
That would be good.
DeleteJMJ
As an Armenian, 1.5 of whose people were killed largely because of Ataturk's policies, it's hard for me to agree.
DeleteBut I certainly hope Muslims can somehow learn to clean their own house. Because there is simply nothing anybody else can do. Not until they do. That's becoming clearer and clearer.
Z: I meant how Attaturk secularized Turkish society and brought them into the 20th century.
DeleteI have no love for those who commit genocide, and Turkey did indeed engage in genocide against the Armenians.
SF....I know you know that...I only meant to point out that all Attaturk did wasn't good. But you are so right, he secularized Turkish society; sadly, they're going back now with Erdogan.
DeleteAnd, of course I know you have no love for those who'd commit genocide! :-)
Honestly, SF, ONE pretty important hitch for the EU in accepting Turkey's bid for EU status is the genocide. I admire the EU and pray to God they won't cave in ...or that Turks won't lie that they admit the gen. just to GET in...because Europe will be swarmed and overcome.
But, I guess I sound like a bad Christian for hoping the lovely Europe can go back to what was so lovely about Europe before Islam's huge numbers. Odd that the Muslims don't like where they come from but bring their awfulness to the West. And, YES, lest some liberal starts calling me names, I am one of the few Conservatives who knows ALL MUSLIMS do NOT want us dead or have ALL MUSLIMS dirtied Europe in every possible way ...which others have.
Sisi is our selected military dictator.
DeleteHe ain't bringing nothing.
As I understand it Obama opposed Sisi's removal of the democratically elected Muslim Brotherhood government. I remember Obama temporarily suspending aid at the time. How did he become ours?
DeleteSo, you really believe Islam is to blame for all this? Do you not see any implications for Christianity with your view? Do you really believe your religion is much better?

Yes, you're right. You have spoken the total truth. Thank you, Mr. Free Thinker, you're clever, sensible and smart.
ReplyDelete(in case anybody didn't know the German, it's fun for me to use it once in a while....Danke Schoen, Frau Mathilde!)
It's a shame Obama can't put aside his personal differences and embrace the message coming from al-Sisi. I expect Obama is still stinging from the ouster of the Muslim Brotherhood which he supported over the wishes of millions of Egyptians who demanded their ouster. Al-Sisi isn't perfect but he's far better than the Brotherhood and even graduated from the US War College. He's a man we could and should do business with.
ReplyDeleteInstead, his speech has gotten very little coverage and no recognition from the Obama Administration.
For years we've been asking when will the Muslims stand up and take responsibility for this mess. Well, a very large voice in the Muslim world did just that and we're ignoring it.

Stop being silly.

Islam is a gestalt which defies any simple definition based on the vast amount of jurisprudence which works its way through every ayat and every single Ahadith, Seerah, etc.
ReplyDeleteAt the core, are doctrines of expansionism and non-assimilation. You would have to drill deeply into text to grasp the expanionist vision and perhaps have a basic understanding of the mysteries of Surah "The Cave" to understand the concept of non-assimilation. The expansion of Islam does not cease until all are Muslims and Allah owns the whole pie. Islam teaches that all were born Muslim. Abraham was a Muslim. Jesus/Isa is a Muslim. You get it. So accepting Islam is not conversion, rather reversion to an original state.
Personally, I like my American slice of pie and wish to keep it. Islam does not appear to be a healthy governance model due to its internal levers which market human slavery. The upheaval we are witnessing across the world is the clash between two separate galaxies of thought.

ReplyDeleteOh yeah, BLACK LIVES MATTER!…black thugs are not content to go gently into that good night of welfare checks, food stamps and killing each other as before. Now they have to run around looting, stealing and burning down buildings.
The Ferguson protests were never about white cops killing black criminals. Or white people killing blacks. Or black lives mattering. We know black lives certainly don’t matter to other blacks who slaughter each other by the tens of thousands each year. This whole thing was about getting in the face of crackas for the protesters. Since those uppity cracka restaurants in Manhattan don’t take food stamps, we’ll just show them racist, white-privileged honkies that black thugs in America do have power. Well, ruin their Brunch’s. The power to make complete assholes of themselves. As if all the violence, crime, and douche baggery committed on a daily basis in America wasn’t enough.
If a mob invaded a place where I was having “brunch” with my wife with some “protest” crap. I’d show them what George Zimmerman showed that little punk in Florida.
To tell you the truth, I’m surprised the ghetto rats were up that early to disrupt Brunch.
There seems to be a growing mentality amongst these animals that they can get away with just about anything and no rules or laws apply to them. There were over 360 heinous black on white murders in this country last year. That’s just about one a day.
These leftist blacks have no right interrupting anybody’s dinner or brunch or breakfast of any white person that has earned their meal. These blacks do not work. They have too much time on their hands. They have food stamps, free housing, free medical, and one government hand-out after another and this enables them to have the time to go and interrupt people’s meals.
1.5 million people marching in France. Many MAJOR WORLD LEADERS from all over the world showed up and symbolically marching for human rights and free speech. Yet the U.S. president and the leader of the free world didn't find it necessary to either attend or at least send his Vice President or Secretary of State, or at least the Moocher to send a message of solitary with the free world and democracy on such a historical event?!
ReplyDeleteObama sent Holder, who didn't even participate in the march.
Shame on the US. Shame shame shame.
Shame on the left and the leftist media for not holding Obama accountable for this huge mistake.
US was absent today.
Right Minds....Yes, Eric HOlder was in Paris but did not participate. I suppose security could have been the reason but who'd need more security in that situation than Netanyahu, right? On the other hand, who has Netahnyahu's guts?
ReplyDeleteI'm blogging about Obama's absence tomorrow....asking my readers their opinions. We were absent on quite an important day.
It almost reads as if we were dissing the cause after having seen those heads of state of important countries, doesn't it.
Z,
DeleteYesterday, I watched some of CNN's coverage of the march in Paris. At one point, Jake Tapper commented on the lack of American leadership present at the gathering.
Obama supporters are going to have a hard time excusing "the optics."
Minimally, the U.S. Ambassador to France could have functioned as a proper and designated authority. An embassy functions as sovereign territory within a host nation. Instead, we are once again greeted with the trite script of a POTUS who offers words which show no real empathy for the national trauma inflicted on the psyche of the French over a 48 hour period. His words were sterile. I remember, and remain immensely comforted, by the gracious expressions of grief for our own nation after 9/11. Many nations reached out with heartfelt expressions and offers of assistance.
ReplyDeleteWhere was the U.S. Ambassador to France? So much for diplomatic engagement.
Tammy
Tammy,
DeleteObama is too busy with his present agenda ("campaigning" for the upcoming State of the Union message) to be bothered with paying attention to what happened in France last week and yesterday. In my view, he sees the massacre and the march in Paris as events that take the attention away from "The One."
The White House has just announced that Obama made a mistake by not attending the march in Paris.
