I was at Mustang's and commented that we seem to keep forgetting our history.
We were not able to prevent 9/11 because we let down our guard. Since then we have let it down even more.
One of the keys to success at Pearl Harbor was the ability of Japan to collect intelligence. I read long ago that it was a common practice for Japanese workers around the base to sit outside the base on the grass and eat lunch. They were able to track the activity of the base and get a schedule of when the base was active and when it was not.
Flash forward to today and how political correctness keeps our society open to those who want to harm us.
I wonder how many times, pre-911, one could walk by the World Trade Center, airports, the Pentagon, etc and see Muslims eating lunch?
Marine Barracks, Pearl Harbor was my last duty station - after 32 years of active duty. My spouse, my daughter and I.....many times with visitors...would go out to the USS ARIZONA memorial.
The lads and lasses that gave their lives in WW II, deserve for us to be Always On Watch.
Thank you for your great blog and thank you for teaching some kids the truth.
Mustang, Until early yesterday morning, I wasn't planning on posting about December 7, 1941. I hadn't found the kind of video I wanted to use. Until I went to PatriotUSA's blog, that is.
Tad, Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to comment.
I did recommend that my students look at this video here at my site.
I had to remind them yesterday of the date. How quickly the facts of history slip out of their brains!
The one time that I tried to visit the USS ARIZONA memorial while Mr. AOW and I were on a whirlwind tour of the Hawaiian Islands, tours were already full. **sigh** We did spend some solemn time at Punchbowl National Memorial Cemetery.

Excellent point.
Sometimes, I think that Americans live in Pollyanna Land -- until something jolts them back to reality. American optimism is a good thing, but it often blinds us to the threats facing us.

Angel,
ReplyDeleteWe must never forget the sacrifices of our men and women in uniform.
On December 7, 1941, so many of our best perished in that surprise attack.
