Gaslighting America

Good analogy (hat tip to Razor Sharp Claws):

When will the majority of Americans realize that they have been scammed?

Perhaps when their wallets are empty — or nearly so.

  3. The only treatment for sociopathy is hospitalization. That won't happen because too many people surrounding Obama are enablers --or are themselves sociopathic. It goes downhill from here.

    1. Sociopathy is usually incurable -- no matter what treatments are used.

  4. I visited a friend in the Western part of our state. The Sunday paper announced an 35 percent increase in their electric rates. No one had a clue as to why the rates were rising. I tried to explain. Offered to show a clip of Obama wanting to destroy coal, and the industry and the "skyrocketing" price that would occur. No interest, so I put back my tin foil had.

Cult followers are programmed not to respond to any evidence.

  5. Interesting concept, "gaslighting." Whatever you call it, Democrats lie, lie and lie again. Unfortunately for them, gaslighting isn't as easy to get away with, since the birth of the INTERNET.

    1. Stogie,
The Information Age certainly has several advantages. Of course, some people won't bother to do the research to discern reality.

  6. Good film for sure but don't miss the 1940 British version.
    It's even better.

  8. More conjecture, half truth and outright lies by this loser. Gaslighting however has been a long time modus operandi of the right.

So...it's OK with wingnuts to continue pick up the tab with their taxes for those who had crappy insurance plans which didn't cover  emergency room visits and certain diseases? I guess you like socialism after all, lol!

The first attacks in Egypt were a result of the video.

    1. So you'd rather pay out of your pocket with your taxes to pay for those without adequate coverage just so you can keep the anti-Obama ' you can keep it..' meme?

    2. Your comment makes no sense.

Via substantial premium hikes for care I don't need at my age (birth control, pregnancy coverage -- for example), I'm paying for those who received subsidies via ObamaCare.

  9. Stogie, if the fringe right can't be gaslit, why are they still fixated on Benghazi and the IRS non scandal?

Really, dangle a scary Muslim in front of them and they'll believe anything.

  11. As I said in another comment, cult followers ignore evidence.

There is also the matter of "the true believers." They're more than satisfied with the direction in which America has gone.

  12. I'm going to uncharacteristically say what I REALLY THINK to Ducky and Liberalmann: The BS you guys sling is getting a little tougher to bear every day, as we Americans see our country lied to, stories obfuscated, Jay Carney slinging such a line that you have to burst into laughter, even as he says belittling insults to the FOX guys because they actually ask for TRUTH (which they never get)....
AOW is right; you are all cult followers of a dope who, have you noticed, clips his sentences even more when he's blatantly LYING?
You've been duped and we are ALL going to suffer for your irresponsible votes.
is that why you hang out at Conservative blogs so much? Something in our truth somehow appeals to you and draws you in even as you kick and scream about 'our lies'?
    Pathetic.

    1. Thanks, Z!

Jay Carney is a buffoon who has been given legitimacy as this White House's press secretary.

We reached this point: the cult followers believe that truth, including the quest for the truth is portrayed as a right wing conspiracy -- and racist.

I also keep recalling Nixon's stonewalling. The Obama administration promises an investigation -- then proceeds to stonewall. Furthermore, the mainstream media perpetrate media blackouts on anything that might condemn anyone in the Obama administration.

These are sorry days for America.

  13. Just as a point of interest:

Does anyone besides your ancient correspondent remember that "Gaslight" started its life as a play called Angel Street? The Broadway production featured Judith Evelyn (pronounced EVIL-in) in the role of Paula later made world famous by Ingrid Bergman.

So, if we had any desire to be historically accurate, we really should say that President Obama and his Henchcrews have been Angel-Streeting us. ;-)

Ducky has made me eager to see the British production of Gaslight from 1940. I imagine it's very good, because the British have always been better than we at making movies and television dramas, BUT because practically everyone in the American cast is British, or in Bergman's case Swedish, and Boyer's French, and the only noticeably American personality is Joseph Cotton, it's hard to see how the earlier version could be better.

Unfortunately for our poor benighted country, we have a severe shortage of "sympathetic detectives" playing Cotton's role. And the few who try earnestly to save us from blithely going over the Falls into the Abyss have been successfully mischaracterized as "Rightwing Conspiracy Nutjobs Blinded by Racially-motivated Hatred for Our First Negro President."

Moreover, when figures such as Clarence Thomas, Condoleeza Rice or Dr. Ben Carson, whose distinguished careers, and attractive, quietly competent presence make an eloquent statement belying the wicked bold assertions of The Marxio-Liberal-Progressive Establishment, and the blatant prevarications of The Obama Regime, they are rudely dismissed, and denigrated as "Uncle Toms," "House Niggers," or "Stooges," etc.

We the People have been transformed into "Paula," an innocent, ignorant victim in love with her Torturer and potential Murderer.

You may thank Karl Marx, The Fabian Society, Sigmund Freud, The Frankfurt School, Eddie Bernays, and Saul Alinsky for that. Their treacherous sophistry has upended and all-but destroyed a once-thriving, relatively free society.

    1. FT,
I never saw the Broadway play that you mentioned. Then again, I've have seen very few Broadway plays -- in large part, because of my geographic location. When I was growing up, we never made a trip to NYC. All our relatives were here in Virginia or in east Tennessee, and our family vacations centered around visiting relatives.

I have, of course, been to NYC as an adult. But not for the purpose of seeing Broadway plays.

Yes. It's called "controlling the conversation" and is straight out of Alinsky.

  14. Well, I despise the very idea of using the TITLE of a movie, book, play, poem, proper name -- what have you -- as a VERB. It sounds cheap, vulgar, and a typical product of MENTAL LAZINESS. I can understand, however, how such syntactical abominations came into the language. They are yet-another huge disservice the ENEMEDIA and the wicked EDUCRATS have FOISTED on the generally ignorant, inept, poorly-educated, incurious, mentally lazy and tragically misinformed American Public.

    1. FT,
I5 appears that gaslighting has now been classified as a verb -- if a direct object follows it.

It is also listed in the Oxford Dictionary.

Of course, the origin is from the stage play.
