Most Influential Blogger Award

(Two posts today. Please scroll down)

Maggie of Maggie's Notebook has nominated me for The Most Influential Blogger Award. There is no voting for this award, just a nod from a friend or maybe someone you don’t even know who thinks your work bears merit. Many thanks to Maggie! Visit Maggie at Maggie's Notebook.

1. Display the award logo on your blog.

2. Link back to the person who nominated you.

3. Answer 7 questions decided by your nominator.

4. Nominate (no limit of nominations) other bloggers for this award and link back to them.

5. Notify those bloggers of the award requirements.

Here are the questions that Maggie asked me to answer:

1. Why did you start a political blog and when?

I began blogging in 2005 when I realized the depth of the Islamic infiltration of America.  At first, my focus was the Islamic Saudi Academy in Fairfax, Virginia, and CAIR.

2. Who is the one person still living that you would most like to meet and chat with?

Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch.  We would talk not only about Islam but also about jazz.  Mr. Spencer is a saxophonist!

3. Would you replace Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court John Roberts if given the opportunity, and if so why and replace with whom?

I would replace Chief Justice John Roberts with Mark Levin.

4. If you could visit one nation you have never visited before, what nation would that be?

Hard to limit my answer to just one nation because I've never traveled outside North America!  I would love to visit England, Spain, Israel, and Egypt.  Security matters would impact my decision to visit any nation in the Middle East, however.

5. What is something you would collectively change about humanity?

The level of selfishness, and I'm not referring exclusively to material greed.

6. What book has influenced your life (other than the Bible or Torah) and describe how?

The Story of My Life by Helen Keller.  It's not so much Helen Keller whom I admire but rather her teacher Annie Sullivan.  Annie Sullivan is my role model for teaching!

7. If you were free to live in any city/town you choose in the U.S., which would you choose and why?

Anywhere that I don't have to shovel snow or swelter in the heat — and with good medical services and high speed Internet access!

Here are my nominees (in alphabetical order and no duplication of Maggie's nominees):

Angel (Woman Honor Thyself)

The Beak (The Beak Speaks)

Conservatives On Fire (Asylum Watch)

Curmudgeon (Political Clown Parade)

Debbie (Right Truth)

FreeThinke (even though he gave up blogging in June)

Kid (Diary of a Right Wing Pussycat)

Dino Martin Peters (I Love Dino Martin because life and blogging cannot be all politics all the time)

Leticia (My Daily Trek)

Marine4Ever (I'm Not Drinking the Koolaid)

Mr. AOW

Mustang (A Montpelier View and Fix Bayonets!)

Western Hero (Silverfiddle, Finntann, et al)

Stogie (Saber Point)

Will (MFS - The Other News)

Woodsterman

Z (GeeeeeZ!)

Nominees, here are your 7 questions:

1. Other than a parent or a Divinity, who -- living or not -- has most influenced your life?

2. What is your favorite movie and why? If you're not a fan of film, what is your favorite book and why?

3. If you could be any animal, what kind of animal would you like to be?

4. Whom would you nominate for President and Vice President in 2016?

5. What is your dream vacation?

6. When a new day dawns and you first access your computer on that new day, which site(s) do you visit first?

7. What is the biggest regret of your life?

It's stupid to go off on such a random tangent. Sheesh.

  6. I don't qualify for any award, because I stopped blogging, and had only done it for a solid year, anyway. but I answered the questions just for fun. Hope someone finds what i said to be of interest.

    1. Why did you start a political blog and when?

I’d been commenting copiously for years at many other blogs, and several friends urged me to start one of my own. I hoped to introduce a friendlier, more broad-minded approach, and also to discuss culture, architecture, literature, poetry, music, theater, movies, etc. in hope of generating more awareness of how much an integral part of life -- and thus the political process -- these elements really are. The idea was, as Walt Whitman put it so well, to encourage readers to be more CURIOUS, and less JUDGMENTAL. Unfortunately, this approach generated far more heat than light, and I found myself the target for ugly, generally moronic abuse from ALL directions.

    2. Who is the one person still living that you would most like to meet and chat with?

TWO actually: America’s greatest operatic baritone and concert singer, Nathan Gunn and his wife Julie Jordan Gunn. Nathan and Julie have managed to stay married to each other, bring five children into the world, take time to raise them in “as normal an atmosphere possible,”and still manage to pursue enormously successful international careers in the world of opera. Having tried unsuccessfully to be a concert artist, myself, I’d like to find out how the HELL they’ve managed to do what they’ve done.

    3. Would you replace Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court John Roberts if given the opportunity, and if so why and replace with whom?

Replace Roberts? Indeed I would. Either Senator Ted Cruz, Governor Scott Walker, Dr. Ben Carson, or possibly Mona Charin, who is one of sanest, most temperate, keenly intelligent, perceptive, and attractive columnists in the USA. The reason why should be obvious. Each and everyone of these individuals is young enough to last for a good many ears, and each has his or her head screwed on rightly -- and tightly, and would do everything possible to help repair the terrible damage leftist thinking has done to our country.

    4. If you could visit one nation you have never visited before, what nation would that be?

Impossible to answer, because there are so many, but it might be Russia, because I would like to see -- and judge -- for myself what it’s really there.

    5. What is something you would collectively change about humanity?

I would love to see an end to SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS and develop deeper appreciation for true Humility. Again Whitman’s motto BE CURIOUS, NOT JUDGMENTAL if applied would do a great deal to advance Civilization by leaps and bounds
    .

    6. What book has influenced your life (other than the Bible or Torah) and describe how?

No one book, just an ever-deepening awareness and appreciation of the importance of BEAUTY -- in Architecture, Interior Design, Gardens, Music, Poetry, Literature, Art, Theater, Film -- and above all in the rare instances of truly NOBLE, THOUGHTFUL GENEROUS, genuinely UNSELFISH, KIND, CONSIDERATE, GOOD-HUMORED BEHAVIOR.

It may seem odd, but if I had to choose just ONE book, it would have to be Anderson's Fairy Tales. My mother and father both read beautifully, and the expressive way they shared those stories with me set me on a course from which I have never wavered.

    7. If you were free to live in any city or town you choose in the U.S., which would you choose and why?

My home town, NEW YORK CITY -- or -- LONDON, ENGLAND -- but only IF I had robust health and the great wealth required to live comfortably, stylishly and free to enjoy the immense cultural riches and great advantages those places have to offer. I spent several months in London, and truly loved it, but that was more than thirty years ago. I haven’t been back to New York in twenty years either, so I might find these places have changed so much as to be undesirable now, but somehow I doubt it.

  10. FT,
The rules don't state that the blogger still has to be blogging, and your blog is still on the web.

In my view, you deserve the award because you posted unique items -- and ALL THAT WONDERFUL MUSIC and with your own commentary much of the time.

Thank you for answering the questions here at Always On Watch. I realized that you would not post at your own blog, now dormant. Back later to discuss your answers with you.

  11. Maggie,
I had to leave some to others...

I always get carried away with these awards.

Believe it or not, I DID reduce my list of nominees.

Just yesterday or the day before, I was thinking, "Whatever happened to those funny memes and tag games?"

We definitely need a break from all the doom and gloom!

  12. Ahh,, you are a dear, AOW. Thank you so much for thinking of me, but I have no illusions about my influence. So, with all do respect, I will decline to participate. Howevr, I would like to answer your questions.

    1. Other than my parents, two people had a profound influence on me. One was my highschool Emglish teacher, who provoked me into to being better than I though I could be. The other was a man with whom I worked who at one time was my boss and later a colleague and later stil an employee. He taught me that if something is worth doing, it is worth doing sooner rather than later.

    2. Two books stand out in my memory: Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck and Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand.

    3. If I could be an animal, I would want ot soar with the egals. Besides, I like salmon.

    4. For President and Vice-President in 2016, I would nominate Allen West and Dr. Ben Carson.

    5. My dream vacation, if I were ohysically able, would be to play all of the great golf courses of Scotland and Ireland.

    6. My first stop on the web each morning is usually BadBlue Uncensored News.
    http://badblue.bitnamiapp.com/trendr8.htm

    7. The biggest regret of my life is that I wasn't smarter sooner.

    1. Conservatives On Fire,
Thank you for answering the questions!

I have read Grapes of Wrath more than once, but Atlas Shrugged only in part. I know that I should read the latter all the way through!

Thanks for the link to BadBlue. I've bookmarked the site.

  13. Thank You AOW.

I would participate except, looking at your list, there is no one left for me to nominate.

My blog list has gotten pretty small lately with many going dark after the last election.

I would have nominated you and Geeez.

  14. Kid,
I got a bit carried away with the list. Oh, well.

Several of my favorite blogs sites are gone or dormant. A few of those bloggers announced the reason before they shuttered -- the 2012 election results.

  15. Mrs. AOW asks difficult questions! I had one helluva time with Number 4! It seems to me that we have very few that would make good executive leaders!

  20. I've ben trying, so hard, to come up with the words... finally, this comes to mind about my nomination: Thank you very much, AOW. I will respectfully and gratefully decline to participate. I do not deserve the recognition -- and, given my blog stats, my influence is nil.

But I'm not sure about your not deserving the recognition. Blog stats ain't everything.
