Jihad Watch Wins CPAC Award, Barred From Receiving It

(Two posts today. Please scroll down)

Robert Spencer writes:
I was surprised and honored that Jihad Watch was among the nominees for the People's Choice Blog Award, sponsored by Right Wing News and TheTeaParty.net, to be awarded at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) 2013.

... Jihad Watch won decisively, getting over 50% of the vote in a field of fifteen....

But as time went by and no announcement was made of this victory, and the voting continued despite my having been told that it officially ended last Friday night and that I had won, and the promised links and other placement promised to the winning blog didn't materialize, I started to wonder. So I contacted the organizer who had written me telling me I won and asked him what was going on.

He told me that there was a slight problem: the Tea Party group, which co-sponsored this People's Choice Blog Award, didn't want to allow me to receive it at CPAC next week unless I promised not to criticize Grover Norquist and Suhail Khan as I accepted the award.

I told the organizer that I couldn't agree to that.
He asked me if I had planned to talk about Grover and Suhail. I said no, I hadn't, but I had to now.

So that's that. The People's Choice Blog Award is now the Grover's Choice Blog Award. I will not be going to CPAC and will not be receiving this award.

And since I will not be allowed to receive this award at CPAC, I will talk about Norquist and Khan here....
Read the rest HERE.

Pamela Geller has also been shut out of CPAC 2013.

We're back to the 9/10 mindset — and not only inside the Obama administration.

We are witnessing the further marginalization of the anti-jihad movement.

Prepare for the reaping of the whirlwind.

  2. Populism is certainly under appreciated and under rated by "Republican" controlled organizations.

  3. Truth in advertising... They need to re-name the organization BPAC for Bush-PAC.

  4. CPAC organizers are making themselves look like the fools they are.

Personally, I could care less what they do.

  6. This entire situation with CPAC, Spencer, and Geller is hard for me to understand. The CPAC folks are all over the map.

  7. This is ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. Oh, I understand WHY they did this: it would look very bad if they let him win the award, for they would be supporting anti-jihad, and we can't have that, can we? No, we'd get killed/blown up/etc.

Lily-livered cowards! The republicans have no spine! Well, politicians in general have no spine. Not anymore. All they care about is covering their butts. You would think, you would REALLY think that after THIS YEARS 9/11 that everyone would have woken up to the fact that playing politics with jihadists DOESN'T WORK.

But no, of course not. Not the left, middle, or right; has or will realize this. Argh. Can we just kick out all the politicians, or start a new party: the Common Sense party?

Well, Spencer won in my mind, even if the awarders are cowards. And banning Pamela, really? I remember her speaking at CPAC the last time I went, she was really good! Granted, I wasn't on the blogs yet and thus had zero clue what she was saying, but I do remember being impressed.

Ah well, what to do, what to do. Wait around for the next disaster I guess and hope that will wake people up.

Oh, funny note: spellcheck wants me to correct 'jihadists' to sadistic. Oh how fitting!

  8. FYI...

Pamela's event at CPAC: "The War on Free Speech."

    Irony supreme, huh?

  9. Wildstar,
Pamela's events at CPAC were always standing room only. Robert was often involved in those events, too.

  10. From the link that FJ left:

The conference was always separate and apart from the GOP establishment, even in the Reagan years. Today it no longer represents a joyous insurgency but is instead part of the Washington political establishment.

The rest HERE and worth reading.

  11. But the good news is that Romney will attend. The one whose asinine campaign brought us to this foul place.

  12. Time to reread Animal Farm. This sort of behavior is brilliantly chronicled there. ALL organizations -- especially those formed initially to do good -- become corrupted sooner of later. It can't be helped. Just the nature of the beast.

  13. I thought CPAC was something of a lost cause several years ago.

Any nonprofit political organization eventually becomes captivated by professional fundraisers. Too many of those people think the organization is to look respectable and raise money. That's why we have to be careful who we give our money to.

  14. I'm not that versed in conservative blogs, but I did immerse myself, rather briefly, in one Mega-Blog called "Ace of Spades HQ" and wrote about it back in August of 2011.

Evidence demonstrating that mainstream conservative non-Elites are PC MC about Islam

I don't know if the regulars here know of that blog, and respect it or not. I found to my dismay that not only were they prone to knee-jerk condemnations of Robert Spencer for his sober caution regarding Republican Texas Govenor Rick Perry, but once I began commenting on a thread that burgeoned from an already bloated 500 comments to over 1,000, registering my usual anti-Islam commentary, for the most part the denizens there reacted not much differently than one would see on rabidly Leftist sites like The Daily Kos or the Jon Stewart fan site or craigslist.

This is broadly relevant here, I think, as it points to a more general problem in modern conservative culture, whereby they can be conservative about nearly Everything Under the Sun (taxation, health care, gun laws, morality, evolution, etc.) -- except for one issue: the problem of Muslims. When that comes up, most of them seem to suddenly transform into Politically Correct Multi-Culturalists.

  15. Hesperado,
    Thank you for commenting.

Although I rarely visit Ace of Spades, I remember the issue of Rick Perry and Suhail Khan (sp?) and the reaction of many conservatives toward what both Spencer and Geller had to say. I was particularly interested in the matter at the time because of what was being said about the Islamic influence on curricula.

The further that we get from 9/11/2001, the less conservatives seem concerned about the Islamic threat -- even the jihadist threat. I run into opposition from conservatives all the time when I bring up some uncomfortable facts about Islam and the history of Islam.

We, as a society, have returned to a 9/10 mindset. Ostriches are easy targets.

  16. Citizen Tom,
What does the GOP stand for today -- in 2013? I've been asking myself that question for well over a year now.

Has the GOP as a whole become Obama-ism lite?

    ReplyDelete
  17. A political party becomes the captive of the people who make the effort to take it over and run it. At this point, Conservatives do not run the GOP. There are not enough of us, and so long as we let the government tell us what to believe, there will not be.

  18. Why do people believe ANYTHING they get from The Daily Caller, or the vomitous Breitbart.crap?

  19. It is organizational fraud when a group ramps up a survey, decides they do not like the results, and bans the "winner" from their enclave event.

    What an ass.

No--it means that the Jihad is more and more likely to spread, opposed by neither conservatives nor anyone else.

  21. So much for the GOP being for free speech. Only for free speech when it is RINO approved. Geesh! Utterly ridiculous!

  22. I lost my interest in CPAC when they homosexualized themselves a few years ago.

  23. Beamish,
I see the GOP's move in that direction as a clear attempt to garner votes.

    I despise politicians.

  25. I love Robert, but he was in dead last in the morning of the final day---when JanMorganMedia decided (to cheat) and launch a last minute 'corporate ad blitz' on his behalf... in the last few hours. I doubt Robert was even aware.

As it stands, he was the only nominee that had a corporate sponsor. JanMorganMedia.
