Sick! Again!

(If you must have politics, please scroll down)

I seem to have come down with "the common cold": nasal drainage, sore throat, productive cough, zero appetite, etc.

It's not unusual for us teachers to come down with a cold the first few weeks of school. I probably picked up this virus from one of my students or their parents.

If I'm not better in a few days, I'll go to the doctor.  Unless my symptoms worsen significantly, I'll still be going to work — and blogging as I'm able to do so.

  2. Be careful! About a week ago I came down with symptoms that I thought were just an exacerbation of an on-going allergy. It persisted and yesterday I finally went to the doctor Guess what? PNEUMONIA!

  3. Being a teacher can be dangerous. Take care of yourself, AOW.

  5. Hope its not the enterovirus that has been spreading.

It's been spreading through the Midwest.
See a doctor if you experience any respiratory problems.

    1. The particular virus you mention is common is Central America. Just saying.

  6. Teaching would be a great profession if you just didn't have to put up with all those kids :<)
Drink plenty of liquids, alcohol preferred because it won't cure you quicker but you won't care.

  7. Take a week off, Hire a Home Health Aide who can cook.

Stay in bed, let the aide bring you homemade chicken soup and copious doses of citrus juices.

    Stay away from the 'puter.

    Do NOT answer the phone.

Listen to a good, non-provocative talking book.

Try to stay drunk. Skud is right.

You need to WITHDRAW for a while, and REST.

Try to stay alive long enough to be able to VOTE in November. ;-)

  8. I always said that, when it comes to the common cold, teachers work in the Petri Dish! You know, that illustration could be you! Feel better, Always. You're a hero for going to work like that. ! Mr. Z used to tease that rum helps...get in bed, drink rum and, as soon as you see more than 2 feet at the end of the bed (and you're the only one in there), you've had enough to start feeling better!
    God bless! Z

    1. Your husband was right, Z. Liquor in general is helpful, but RUM makes the best hot toddy by far.

Try this next time you are down with a respiratory infection:

      Juice of one lemon, strained
      1 tsp lemon peel (optional)
      1 tsp powdered ginger
      1/2 tsp cinnamon
      2 or 3 whole cloves
      2 Tbsps honey (preferably local)
      Boiling water
      2 oz. Meyers DARK Rum

Brew the lemon juice, spices and honey in enough boiling water to dissolve. Add the rum. Top off with more boiling water till the mug is full.

Sip slowly. Repeat until you drift off to Dreamland. ;-)

[NOTE: A larger quantity may be brewed in a teapot -- minus the rum. Just reheat in the microwave and add rum as desired.]

This will not cure your cold, but you honestly won't care. ;-)

    2. I think that'd make it a bit too delicious for Mr. Z.....he'd be faking colds for that mixture, if I knew him :-)

    3. I have to admit it IS good, Z, even when you're not sick.

Actually a great drink to serve during the Christmas Season to guests seated around a cozy fire. Best when it's windy, cold and snowing outside, though.

  9. I felt a lot better yesterday than I feel today.

I think that I tried to do too much yesterday.

This nagging cough is a misery. Other symptoms are under control -- more or less.

  10. Feel better. Wish my hubby could come up with a cure for the common cold, we would be zillionaires, ha

  11. I don't know the state in which you live but with all the illegals aliens (unvaccinated) joining our free public schools, we can expect whooping cough as an illness plus West Nile is going bonkers here. Take care!
