Joe Biden's Brain: Confabulating Joe

As I've said before, Joe Biden has brain issues, including two brain surgeries for aneurysms in 1988. Just a few months ago, he welcomed Representative Gabrielle Giffords to the cracked head club upon to her return to Congress.

Simply put, Joe Biden confabulates. Psychiatric definition of the term:
to replace the gaps left by a disorder of the memory with imaginary remembered experiences consistently believed to be true.
Learn more about the fascinating phenomenon of confabulation at Wikipedia. Clearly, confabulation is often connected to wishful thinking and is not a deliberate lie in the strict sense of the word.

I empathize with Joe Biden's brain situation because Mr. AOW went through a period of confabulation for several months following his stroke. In fact, because of the confabulation, Mr. AOW's neurologist didn't pronounce my husband compos mentis until some eighteen months post-stroke. Furthermore, Mr. AOW does still confabulate, but now he recognizes his error as wishful thinking. Still, the words pop out from time to time.

One of the confabulations from Joe Biden involves the following (hat tip to Bloviating Zeppelin):

Article HERE.

Starting at time marker 1:05, see another example of confabulation from Joe Biden (hat tip to The Pagan Temple):

You'll note in the video that Biden's handlers whisked him away before he could insert his foot further into his mouth.

Remember that Biden actually believes what he is saying.

In fact, Biden can't stop himself from uttering such inanities even if he knows the facts are contrary to his statements.

I have to wonder if Obama's advisers told him to choose Confabulating Joe for Vice President because Confabulating Joe inevitably fills in gaps with what he wants to believe and is, therefore, a consistent sycophant.

On a political and budgetary level, Bloviating Zeppelin points out the following about the loan to Fisker:
And the price? A "$529 million dollar federal government loan guarantee." HALF a BILLION dollars. Sound familiar? Solyndra, anyone?

That's called "the true cost of green jobs," where infrastructure is lacking, when regulations are overbearing, where unions for unskilled laborers rule all, why taxes are confiscatory.

And, bottom line, that's called "The Fleecing of the American Taxpayer."
I have reliable information from good sources who are Republicans, from people who personally know Joe Biden, that he is "a nice guy." I have no doubt of that. I'm sure that he is a wonderful guest at the dinner table and sparkles in that kind of venue.

Realistically, should Confabulating Joe Biden be a heartbeat away from the Presidency?

  1. Realistically, NO. At best, we would have someone who is 'confused' at the helm of this country, more likely and worse we would have political 'handlers' in charge.

Like you, I can empathize; my mother had a stroke when I was very young and it took her quite awhile before she was able to function well.

  2. An aside... Funny how Dems howled for McCain's medical records and questioned his fitness, yet can you recall anyone on the left or in the MSM pointing out Biden's brain condition?

  3. Wow. This puts his cartoonish blarney and blather in a new and more serious light.

He should not be next in succession to the presidency.

  4. The other day, Biden popped out another inanity: that it's clear that the stimulus plans worked.

I believe that he's also indicated that he wants to run for POTUS in 2012. Talk about confabulation and wishful thinking!

I hold no animosity toward Biden. And certainly he can competently serve in public office. But in the Oval Office? Gimme a break!

  5. Hi AOW.

"Realistically, should Confabulating Joe Biden be a heartbeat away from the Presidency? "After reading your story the thought becomes a frightening one, i believe you are right that Obama 'choose' him on purpose.Great post.

  6. But how then do we account for Obama and his Confabulations? Or should we just settle for Liar in Chief?

  7. You remember when Maxine Waters slip of the tongue said "We want you Socialized" to the oil companies? Will Washington decided to hit the car companies too. And of course they're going to use our money ... It's the socialist way.

  8. Brooke makes an excellent point...
I love irony; like when Trestin brought up how nobody could show Osama's dead body because Muslims would be too sensitive but the Muslims paraded Gadhafi's Muslim body for everyone around the globe to see.

As for Biden, one forgets he's so close to BEING President if, God forbid, something happened.
Anybody think Obama might pick another VP candidate? Naaa......Obama's ego needs a sycophant.
And, of course, the left could rejoice over Tony Snow's death and rejoice each time Cheney's ill, but you'll get some lefty coming by here and saying "how unkind of you! To bring up Biden's brain problems!"
    irony turns to hypocrisy. Again.

  9. Well, at least Biden has an excuse for his mis-statements. Mr. Obama has no such excuse....although he does have a terrible head scar.

  11. Realistically, should Confabulating Joe Biden be a heartbeat away from the Presidency?

This can only be answered in the context of this Presidency. Considering that Obama should not be in the Presidency, it makes it almost irrelevant that Biden should be next in line.

There really isn't much "down" from Obama so Biden, with all of his faults, wouldn't be much worse.

  12. That fellow must push a fair amount of pork around to keep getting elected by his constituents.

Him becoming president is a scary thought.

  13. Very interesting AOW. I never thought about Biden in these terms. Not sure I even remembered his surgeries. Perhaps you are right, but it could be explained as just the ramblings of a loony lefty who will say or do anything.

Now there's that compassionate conservatism we all know and love, lol.

  15. Conservatives On Fire mentioned the scar on Obama's head. What caused that scar, anyway?

The scar reminds me of ones I've seen on the heads of those who have had brain surgery -- when a shunt was inserted (hemorrhage, hydrocephaly, tumor excision).

  16. Debbie,
I'd like to compare and contrast Biden's behaviors and utterances before and after the brain surgeries he's undergone.

I know from my husband's experience with brain surgery in 1993 that he underwent some permanent changes, some of which were minimal and some of which were serious and have lasted a lifetime. His brain surgery was a controlled event as opposed to emergency surgery. Nonetheless, two permanent results were damage to short-term memory and severe fatigue. The alternative to Mr. AOW's surgery in 1993 was "ordering a casket," as the audiologist quipped.

  20. Obama picked Biden as his VP for insurance as in they'll never impeach me when that's their second choice.

  21. Bunk, Obama is a pathological liar which goes along with his NPD.

  22. Ticker,
    Suit yourself.

I'm not familiar enough with Biden's pre-op political positions and statements to say for sure -- although some of my GOP friends with personal experience with Biden tell me that he's a nice guy.

  23. Ticker,
I did a bit of research and found THIS about Joe Biden. Some of the information predates his brain surgery in 1988.

So, he's been "strange" since before the brain issues.

  24. I am disgusted by this rhetoric. It is garbage, crap, cruel.

"Just a few months ago, he welcomed Representative Gabrielle Giffords to the cracked head club upon to her return to Congress." (AOW, 2011)

Your husband had brain surgery. Four years ago a brain hemorrhage. Would you appreciate me or anyone for that matter writing about him and insinuating about him the way you have about Biden?

No you would be looking for blood AOW. All the time you looked for support and sympathy from me, your readers and this is how you talk about a man who despite what we think of his politics has accomplished more than you or me and many others do in a lifetime despite his surgeries and brain trauma. Who do you think you are?

You may know about what you read, but you are wrong. The man is no dummy and I do not like Biden's politics, but he is not a dummy. I have watched him plenty of times on Senate Committees and other committees and the guy did not skip a heart beat.

Can I ask is Mr. AOW strange or is he okay because he is conservative. If you are going to take POT SHOTS do it in the realm of politics, not the realm of health because this man beat the odds like it or not, like him or not.

And then you make fun of Gifford and remark that Biden "...cracked head club?" The cracked head club. Should we talk about your head and your husbands. I thought you had empathy for people. You said Obama has none, well, neither do you perhaps that is why you noticed he had none. I am ashamed of conservatives when you speak and write this crap. You are worse than liberals because you should know better. Have you no fear of God?

My God! There by the grace of God go I and you.....Biden and Gifford suffered horrendously, have compassion for them. You want compassion for you and your husband? You do not have mine anymore. I never knew you!

I have totally lost all respect for you!
