Celebrate The Ronald Reagan Centennial

Mike's America is holding a celebration of the date: "Happy 100th Birthday Ronald Reagan."

  1. It strikes me that with Obama, we may have taken that last step into a thousand years of darkness.

  2. Good list.

I have the "No arsenal or no weapons..." quote on my blog.

I have always liked this one:

"How do you tell a communist? He reads Lenin and Marx. And how do you tell an anti-communist? Someone who understands Lenin and Marx."

I don't remember this one but it is funny:

"Before I refuse to take your questions, I have an opening statement..."

  3. What a great man. He was great because he knew who he was and he made decisions based upon his values.

A student of history and political thought, he knew why he believed what he believed.

  4. Of all the presidents in my lifetime, Ronald Reagan approached his office most sensibly. He confronted problems head-on, unlike Pansy Obama.

He was an extremely wise leader who knew right from wrong, unlike Pansy Obama.

Reagan's speeches sang with truth, unlike those of Pansy Obama.

I tend to agree with Mark: There is darkness upon these United States of America.

I wish someone in Congress had the balls to begin impeachment proceedings, because IMHO Pansy Obama should be ousted as a traitor to all that is known as "America"!

    P.S.: Regards to Mr. AOW!

  5. Good morning, AOW. Thanks for the compendium of Reaganisms. I like this one: "I've noticed that everybody that is for abortion has already been born."

  6. I love "The Gipper." He was one of a kind and we will not see his ilk for a long, long time.

Some moronic media pundit compared Palin to "The Gipper." It was disgusting. No one, not even GWB could hold a candle to Reagan let alone Palin of all people.

Palin is so plastic and an opportunist wrapped up in bubble gum. Reagan was the real deal. How insulting they made such a comparison to such a great humanitarian.

  7. I meant "...wrapped up in a bubble gum wrapper." (Gonzalez. 2011)

  8. What a contrast this scheming Leftist snake Obama provides to towering success and time-proven principles of Ronald Reagan.

Actually... the current occupant of the WH Oval Office is pretty much everything ole Dutch tried to warn us about...

  9. Ronald Reagan was the greatest President of the United States next to the Founders. I am proud to say that I got to vote for the man. His optimism, honesty, and wit made one proud to be an American again. His steadfast courage and attachment to virtue brought about the falling of the Berlin Wall and the implosion of the Soviet Union which ended the Cold War. He was a giant of a man and the fact that the left likes to compare Obama to him means that even they cannot deny his greatness.

This is not to say that Reagan was perfect because he was not. But it is the flaws of man that tie him to the rest of humanity and make him human. In my estimation, Reagan is the American Churchill. An icon of American ideals and passion set against the future in the American dream. In short, he was a hero.

  10. Thanks for posting the Super Bowl tribute. I had not seen it yet.

F.Y.I. the Post Office will begin selling a new Reagan stamp on Monday that is a "forever" stamp locking in the price. I bought a bunch of the first Reagan stamps but had to add penny stamps after the next increase. Not so with these.

This Centennial remembrance is a great opportunity to remind Americans what REAL presidential leadership is like and also a reminder that we will have to fight again the battles that President Reagan won in his day against a liberal/socialist ideology that NEVER seems to learn from history.

The best way we can honor the memory of Ronald Reagan is to remember his lessons and apply them to our political life today.

And don't EVER let anyone sell you on the idea that Obama is ANYTHING like Reagan in ANY way! What HOGWASH!

  11. What a neat tribute, AOW. Thanks so much for this!

  12. He influenced the world in ways we cannot fathom. He was before my time, but even us toddlers in the middle of nowhere far from you heard the voice of Ronald Reagan.

Thank you sir and rest in peace.

  13. Yes, Reagan knew that government is the problem; liberty is the solution.

I’m glad you like my Adams’ quotes over at American Creation. I think you’re the only one who got the point. Adams’ description of the moral corruption of 18th century England now fits our current state of affairs. He saw the “economic” problems as moral failures. Sturdy self-reliance (or as Franklin would say, the virtues of "industry and frugality") are never mentioned in today’s bailout culture. We need to find another Reagan ... fast!

    Best regards, Jason

  14. Truly a great President.

Too bad the likes of Carter, Clinton, and Obama are also considered to be President's what a bunch of amateurs compared to Reagan. Of course we do owe them something for without their pathetic examples of leadership and clueless meanderings in the areana of economics we might never recognize the true brillance of folks like Reagan who valued principles over personality.

  15. Jason,
Adams’ description of the moral corruption of 18th century England now fits our current state of affairs.

I thought that was your point, though you didn't state that point implicitly.

Yes, we do need another Reagan. I don't see one on the horizon, however. **sigh**

  16. Mike,
And don't EVER let anyone sell you on the idea that Obama is ANYTHING like Reagan in ANY way! What HOGWASH!

That cover on Time Magazine, the cover with Obama and Reagan admiring each other, was sickening.

  17. I'm so glad that Nancy Reagan is alive and able to celebrate her beloved Ronnie's birthday. Frankly, I thought that she would fade away shortly after he died. She hasn't!

  18. Check out Dr. Sanity's post about Ronald Reagan. She has personal insights that you won't read anywhere else!

  19. Reagan was truly a great president and an honorable man. His principled influence will forever be remembered.

Great video commemoration of his centennial birthday.

  20. Let's see. Reagan increased our national debt significantly and as the man at the helm, denied any knowledge of the arms sales to Iran to finance Contra rebels in Nicaragua even though he knew everything else his administration was doing. Sure, I believe that. Of course, his underlings went to prison....

He was a far better president than either Bush (both disasters) and clearly a better one than Clinton, who was really better than most except for getting caught with a cigar and spots on a dress.

He was not great. He simply did what we have a right to expect from a president, and because our reasonable expectations are almost never met, when a good man finally comes along we put a halo on him.

Reagan had a lot of flaws and he engaged in illegal acts. His good fortune is that none could be proven and that others went to prison instead of him.

I get tired of seeing politicians glorified when every single one of them did it for the power they gained instead of for our benefit. Politicians are the worst of us, not the best.

Thanks for the visit. I hope you and Mr. AOW are doing well.

  21. I can relate to Layla's position, but I'm more offended when they start attributing Reaganesque characteristics to Obama. That makes me want to vomit. Obama is NOTHING like Reagan.

  22. Black Sheep,
because our reasonable expectations are almost never met, when a good man finally comes along we put a halo on him

You have a valid point there.

I am indeed wary of glorifying Reagan, but I do have a great deal of respect for him -- despite some of what he did (as you mentioned). That said, we've done a lot worse with out Presidents since Reagan.

BTW, I don't get to make blog rounds very regularly these days.

Mr. AOW and I are doing okay, but some days are rougher than others.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Rougher than others. Yes, I'm sure they are. I view life as a survival test that I can't win. The goal is to see how long I can last.

About Target, they're worse than Walmart. I gave up on them. Have you checked out their return policy lately? Talk about nightmares...

I don't do much blog visiting anymore either.

    Glad you're still around.

  24. Black Sheep,

You made a valid point about how pathetic our political leaders our that when one comes along who gets the job mostly right we "put a halo" on him.

My comments were not meant to put a halo on him for there are valid criticisms that can be made regarding the era with Reagan as President. My comments were more meant to say the other bums are just that bums and they do not even deserve the title of President.......

    ReplyDelete
  25. LOL, no argument there.

  26. Black Sheep,
I don't mind harsh views. I do like a good discussion and provocative posts.

As for shopping, well, I rarely buy big-ticket items at WalMart, Target, and the like because of the issue of returning items.

My last shopping venture to Target garnered cheap sweatsuits for Mr. AOW and a nice knit cap for me. That was it! And getting into their so-called handicapped bathroom was a nightmare. In contrast, a recent trip to Macy's was a pleasure in all respects: I got what I paid for, and Mr. AOW actually got help from the store personnel when he needed access to the handicapped bathroom, which was properly structured.
