In your view, how is this playing in Peoria?

The whole thing is nuts at this point. No one has any idea what Trump really stands for, or Bernie Sanders as well. Good luck America.

  4. I've seen others (maybe AOW) make this observations, but I will make it again: This is the ultimate consequence of the GOOP standing for nothing and being run by gutless, ball-less, thought-free pisants who stand for nothing but their own enrichment, power and position.

So then you get wild-eyed crazies charging onto the stage from the far right fringe, and they are no better, unable to extend their appeal beyond the far right 20% or so.

We gave the GOOP House and Senate majorities, and they've done absolutely nothing with them.

So, even normally left-brained, sangfroids like me want to grab a tire iron and join in on kicking and beating the GOP to death, knowing full well it will result in a Hellary presidency.

It's not logical, but then, continuing to support the GOP pusbags makes no sense either, since it has done nothing for me or for the nation.

A more sensible path would be to invade the Democrat party and agitate for changes.

Yes, I made that observation about the ultimate consequence.

Today, the following appeared in my inbox:

      Jeb Bush's Blue Colors. Excerpt:

Which candidate running for president supported a $50 million partnership with Planned Parenthood, aided the war on coal and advocated for giving Washington bureaucrats more control over local schools? If you guessed Hillary Clinton or Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), guess again.

The correct answer is Jeb Bush.

  5. Having said that, I think GOP politicians have made amazing progress at the state level and are doing wonderful things there. Just compare GOP-run states to Dem-dominated ones.

I don't know why that doesn't translate well to Federal politics. I blame the complete stranglehold progressives of all parties have on the byzantine federal bureaucracy.

  8. Jorge Ramos was not 'screaming' as Trump has said he did, over and over, but he did start talking right after Trump had called on another person and wouldn't stop....so he was removed. What most don't know is that Ramos was let back in and able to ask his questions, to which Trump waffled, as usual.
what Ramos did was REALLY a 'gotcha!' moment; let's see if Trump complains for weeks about those "very tough questions!" as he has about that "Bimbo," (as he calls her, this man who "loves and respects women") Megyn Kelly.

To a certain extent, I agree. But that is only if reason is used. Not much use of reason going on today in America.

Which of the news media are covering the 'gotcha' moment?

Did you watch Megyn Kelly's show last night? For the first part of the show, the portion discussing Trump, she was quite subdued. How did that change in her demeanor play in Peoria? IMO, not in her favor.

    3. Z,
It doesn't matter to most that Trump waffled, IMO.

      Why?

Because feelings (emotions) and political theatre have triumphed over reason and consideration of evidence. I can't lay all of that at Obama's feet, but that change is part of Obama's legacy.

  9. Not a critical component of this, but just so everyone knows, Univision is not a Mexican channel.

Univision is a US-owned TV Network, based out of Miami and owned by Haim Saban, a friend of the Clintons and a major Democrat party donor (he has thrown a few subway tokes to Republicans, like George Bush's 2004 campaign).

We get it over the air here, and I can tell you it is a leftwing fount of Democrat party good, Republicans evil. Their commentators excoriate any politician or public figure who wants anything less than open border and complete immediate amnesty for any and all who arrive here.

Univision has no balance. Although a US outlet, their outlook is very Latin American, and they are responsible for forming the opinions of people all over Latin America, since they have broadcast deals all over the continent.

All news programs are in complete sympathy with illegal immigrants and are critical of anything smacking of mainstream conservatism in the US.

In Jorge Ramos, Donald Trump may have picked the wrong media star to tussle with

    I don't know who to root for/against.

I respect both men in a way. Ramos for being a champion of the people, but he is the flip side of El Donaldo: Ramos doesn't just advocate or debate in goodwill. He actively demonizes those who stand up for immigration enforcement, no matter how respectfully and tactfully the speak about it.

I predict whitey-Latino relations getting much worse, and I predict it getting a lot more "in your face."

I really truly don't think that Univision is going to turn Hispanics from Trump, or at least the few who are for him now....and how many who watch Univision can VOTE legally?? I know so many Hispanics who are against open borders and the minimum wage...true.

    8. I guess we'll see what happens in the primaries. But I challenge any vestigial Republican (i.e. whoever voted for Romney despite his not being quite as conservative as Obama) to explain Trump as conservative, libertarian, evangelical or any strain of the so called Republican base. I'm serious. At least Hillary Clinton can say she tried to get Barry Goldwater elected. What has Trump done for the cause?

    9. Beamish,
Unless Trump has "evolved" (along the lines of Obama and H. Clinton with regard to gay marriage, for example), he is no conservative.

What I like about Trump: he appears to be challenging the GOP establishment, particularly the establishment's pre-conceived plan for who will receive the party's nomination for POTUS.

In general, I see Americans as FED UP with "politics as usual." With good reason! The GOP has become Dem Lite.

    10. Trump is not conservative, not evangelical, and not libertarian. I see him more in the mold of Bloombergovich.

He is a technocrat. The first time President Trump appointed another Ruth Bader Ginsberg to the Supreme Court, the conservatives who elected him would be screaming for his head on a pike (and yes, I could see him doing that).

  11. Z,
I must say that I've lost a lot of respect for Megyn Kelly and several others at FNC, and that loss of respect dates back to well before Trump appeared on the scene.

What I'm about to type in may sound like sour grapes. I assure you that it is not! Even at my age, I can "strut my stuf" and get away with it. (Good genes!) And I ain't no prude, either.

    Here goes....

The see-through tables with the women's long legs swinging back and forth with their feet shod in those stiletto heels and those low-cut sleeveless dresses (sometimes with sequins on a morning show)! Professional dress for female journalists? I think not.

Do I think that Trump should have referred to Megyn Kelly as a "bimbo"? No, I do not. But I admit to thinking that same thought myself from time to time about quite a few of the women who appear regularly on FNC on the news and talk shows, and I bet that a lot of other people have thought something quite similar.

How the FNC female journalists and female pundits dress for a Hollywood galas or other parties is a different matter entirely, of course -- just as what I wear to a casino is not what I wear to work or to a funeral.

    ReplyDelete

    1. We should ask ourselves this question....

If we didn't agree so often with these women on FNC, would we then find fault with their dress code? I think that we might well do that.

How do the female journalists on other channels dress?

Apparently, the shooter, a self-described "gay black man," had been carrying a chip on his shoulder for a long time. The charges he brought up with the EEOC went nowhere, and he decided to make a statement by killing two white people (and wounding a third).

He was also an Obama supporter and professionally unethical, too: Roanoke Shooter Was Once Criticized By Superiors For Wearing Obama Campaign Button While Covering Election Night. According to that link:

Management at WDBJ dubbed the failed newsman the ‘human tape recorder’ because he frequently parroted what interviewees had told him rather than doing his own journalism.

Flanagan, 41, clashed repeatedly with photojournalists, belittling them in public and intimidating them with his violent temper, according to internal reports.

    2. Yup. To understand him, you must understand how news is reported in Latin America. You have establishment reporters, and you have advocates of the people. He is the latter. He is an open and heroic champion of the little people. It's a morality play: El Pueblo looking for a better life in the US are good; the mean, nasty hateful gringos trying to keep them out are evil.

It's a mentality formed by zero sum societies, and it is also the reason why people to our south repeatedly fall for socialist strongmen, despite no evidence any of them were ever able to improve anything.

I could go on and on...

It's another one of those things I shake my head at, but I understand it, and it is all rational withing its own context.
