So glad you caught the tongue-in-cheek tone of my humor auf Deutsch, AOW!
Eigentlich, schreibe ich "Schlecktdeutsch" ganz ungrammatik, aber meine Deutsches Freunden mich erzahlen, dass Sie koennen ewig ganz verstehen was ich bedeutet.
Since it's been forty-odd years since I took a German class, so it amuses to try to recollect at least some of what I once knew. Most of my German, such as it is, came from coaching the songs of Schubert, Schumann, Brahms and Hugo Wolf with numerous singers in my New York days.
I am so used to being misunderstood it always surprises and delights me when someone appreciates the spirit in what I try to say.

FT,
ReplyDeleteit's been forty-odd years since I took a German class
The last German class I took ended in the spring of 1970.
I was never particularly fluent in German, particularly with regard to speaking the language. But, for a period of time, I did read German very well.
Sometimes, I think that I've forgotten more than I'll never be able to learn in the years I've got left.
