Happy Thanksgiving 2017

(A great big "Thank you!" to Stogie, who, at my request, designed the graphic in this post ub 2012. CLICK HERE to see the Thanksgiving graphic that Stogie created for his own site in 2011)

As most who frequent this blog know, I do a lot of moaning and groaning about the present condition of our nation.

Nevertheless, despite all of the negative things that we bloggers opine about, we Americans have so much to be thankful for! I am ever aware of that fact.

Some years ago, shortly after I began blogging, Mr. AOW and I went to our dearest friends' house to celebrate Thanksgiving. The feast was one fit for a king, the table set with the best of china and crystal, the food plentiful.

Before diving into the delectables and offering the blessing, the hostess asked each of us there, "What are you personally thankful for?"

When my turn to speak came, I found my answer easy to give. In fact, my answer sprang from my mouth without any planning. I blurted out, "I'm thankful for the Bill of Rights, which affirms my right to freedom of speech."

In 1985, when Ronald Reagan spoke the words in the video below, I didn't have much appreciation for what he said. I do now! He speaks to me — to all of us — from across the decades:

This Thanksgiving 2017, let us remember the wonderful and unique blessings that WE THE PEOPLE enjoy. Let us never take those blessings for granted!

  1. _______ On Giving Thanks _______

Once upon a time, we knew that life
    Never guarantees us anything,
Given that, why not just plunge a knife
Into your heart? No form of nannying

    Vitiates vicissitude, and yet
    Imagination hopes to set aside
Natural Law which says w’re all in debt.
God, the Source of Life, can just provide

The chance to be whatever we can be.
Happiness is found along the way ––
Achieving what we can with Charity.
No panacea can this truth gainsay.

Kings and Vassals –– equal in God’s sight ––
Should each give thanks as they fight the good fight.

    1. That's good, but it would help if you could please be more specific, and give us a few details.

Hope you have a pleasant, uncomplicated day today unmarked by any kind of mishap, illness, or disappointment.

    2. I'm thankful my entire, and far flung family is healthy and well. As well as doing well.

We lost the patriarch of our family (my father) last November. His presence will be greatly missed again this year.

Especially thankful for my classy and intelligent conservative better half.

Blessings are plentiful and often right in front of us when we look.

i thank You God for most this amazing

and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes

(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun’s birthday; this is the birth
day of life and of love and wings: and of the gay
    great happening illimitably earth)

how should tasting touching hearing seeing

  6. _______ To Thanksgiving _______

    This holiday is often overlooked
One feels, because it doesn’t generate
The flow of cash, the airlines overbooked,
Hysteria at fear of being late.

    A humble, homey, family-style affair,
    No supernatural glamour European
    Kicks Concupiscence awake to dare
Sobriety to drink and make a scene.

Giving thanks for what one has is not
In fashion in this Age of Gimmemore.
    Virtue, quaintly comical, has got
Inhibited. It fears to be a bore.

    Nothing satisfies, however wild, like
Giving thanks for home in manner childlike.

  9. The fam put me in charge of desserts and football snacks this year muhahahahaha!

Pumpkin pie, apple pie, pecan pie, peach cobbler, blackberry cobbler, chocolate creme pie, and cheesecake. For football I made 12 pounds of Chex mix in 4 giant oven roasting pans.

Yeah, we go massive for the feast.

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

The people whose home we are going to (she hails from Georgia) will likely have pecan pie, but maybe not the latter two. I AM JEALOUS OF YOUR DESSERT TABLE!

  13. I am MOST grateful this Thanksgiving that Donald J. Trump now occupies the Oval Office, and that putrid Hillary Clinton will NEVER be president.

Her Heinous reached for the brass ring, and FELL OFF the MERRY-GO-ROUND.

Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! And a HAR DEE HAR HAR to Old Thnderthighs!

  14. I'm MOST thankful we will have 3 more years (hopefully not 7) to more accurately assess the impact of Trump's "MAGA" agenda.

Castles built on sand will not stand.

Hope all had a GREAT feast and most memorable Thanksgiving.
