What ethical stance is appropriate for the complicated situation we are experiencing today, which consists of health crisis, global warming, social-economic and similar conflicts?
The first figure that comes to mind is the experts, who are engaged in a special task imposed by the authorities; an expert may recklessly ignore the broad social context of his or her activity.
The second figure that comes to mind is the radical-like intellectuals; these critics of the existing order know very well that their criticism will have no real effect because they take refuge in the comfortable position of moral superiority.
I look at how legislators legislate FJ rather gulp the Hannity and Tucker tea.
I was referencing the recent Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act which 250 House republicans voted against and then was derailed by senate republicans.
During normal times such a bill would have easily passed as there really wasn't anything partisan about it, wasn't loaded with "poison pills", and pretty much contained language that most R lawmakers promote and campaign on.
But much like voting to keep baby formula shelves empty, republicans have learned that the more harm and the more pain they can inflect on their constituents, the more angry they become and accordingly, will vote out the people now in charge.
Is that the same "act" that has tens of innocent civilians w/o criminal records and w/o opportunity to post bond locked up in DC jails for the Jan 6 "insurrection" theatre that Congress is currently conducting, Ron?
If it was non-partisan (as you say) why did only one Republican vote for it, Ron, a turncoat RINO never-Trumper from the Jan 6th Theatre Committee who had been personally appointed appointed by Pelosi (D)?
I'm not sure what act your rhetoric is alluding to but I'm pretty sure when someone attacks our Capitol and tries to overturn the results of a legitimate election, they go to jail.
Perhaps you're referring to Marco Rubio taking to Twitter and sounding more like a batshit crazy angry insurrectionist rather than the vice chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee with: “This week a democrat party [sic] infiltrated by marxists [sic] & left wing [sic] extremists will try to pass a bill giving them the power to go after anyone they decide to label as racists or extremists".
It didn't make a lick of sense then nor does it now. The NYT reported: "it would stop short of creating new federal powers to crack down on domestic terrorism; it would not create new criminal offenses or new lists of designated domestic terrorist groups, nor would it give law enforcement additional investigative powers.” There's nothing in it about giving Dems power.
NBC reported it was designed to create domestic terrorism offices within the Justice Department, the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI to facilitate better coordination and help the agencies identify risks and homegrown threats. and was to “focused to combat white supremacist and neo-Nazi infiltration of the uniformed services.”
Want to downplay white supremist groups violence? The Buffalo shooting not included, NYT also reported, “Over the past decade, the Anti-Defamation League has counted about 450 U.S. murders committed by political extremists. Of these 450 killings, right-wing extremists committed about 75 percent. Islamic extremists were responsible for about 20 percent, and left-wing extremists were responsible for 4 percent. Nearly half of the murders were specifically tied to white supremacists.”
At what point did "facilitate better coordination and help the agencies identify risks and homegrown threats" become a partisan issue?
Perhaps you answered above with your insurrectionist coddling.
And since the latest FBI Durham Investigation scandal and proof of partisan "capture" of Deep State Agency leadership, giving DOJ, FBI, and Homeland new rice bowls to capture and abuse in secrecy is an exceedingly BAD idea.
The Buffalo shooter repudiated Republicans and conservatives as corporate tools. He described himself as “mild/moderate left authoritarian.” Despite all that, I don't blame anyone on the left. He was a mentally ill racist. That was his motivation.
"The "rooting for America's failure" part of partisan Kool-Aid that you're guzzling."
Well, uh, NO! That would be your drink you want me to swallow.
The "root for failure" hat was given to "The Party of No" by Rush Limbaugh when Obama was elected and confirmed by McConnell and many others.
Loose lips Mic Mulvaney admitted on camera to Chris Wallace: "Well, we didn’t get very much done. Listen, I’ll be the first to admit that when the tea party wave, of which I was one, got here in 2011, the last thing we were interested in was giving President Obama legislative successes."
I could go on but if you're that politically ignorant and blind, there's no need.
But in this particular bill, obstructing efforts to coordinate federal agencies abilities to monitor and deter white supremist groups from mass killings go deeper than simply denying Democrats a legislative success.
During the Trump years, white supremist groups rose to new levels and powers. ProPublica reported around 50 Republican elected lawmakers involved with the Oath Keepers. White supremist groups have turned to the party of Trump and are a considerable part of their base.
And aside from not wanting to alienate that part of their base, why would Republican legislators want to do anything to stop another mob who is on their side should they loose another election? Obviously, having these thugs "standing by" is advantageous.
Today's Republican Party has become and/or beholden to the modern day KKK.
I do know that far right extremist networks have become more dominant and dangerous in the past 5 years, much to a wink and a nod of our former president.
Just yesterday and after my comments above, a federal judge again refused bail for the former top leader of Proud Boys over Jan 6 saying the evidence against was "very strong" and that measures like a bond and home confinement "do not adequately mitigate the threat of dangerousness Tarrio poses" and that he "has the skill set, resources, and networks to plan similar challenges to the lawful functioning of the United States government in the future."
So, knowing that Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, et al are growing powerful organizations with the intent of overthrowing the government with their interpretation of the Constitution, the entire republican lot refused to allow easier ways for government agencies to monitor them and communicate their data.
There's just something terribly wrong with that, regardless of how bad Democrats were or still are.
I get it, RJW. I'm not a Trump voter or a Trump supporter. You won't find me pretending the decision to vote for him was anything more than utterly imbecilic, even with the other side of the false dilemma being Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden. I'll even go so far to say the sunk cost fallacy of continuing to support Trump is well past the borderline between sanity and competitive lead paint chip eating contests. Trump came to wreck the Republican Party and render it unelectable, good Democrat operative and Clinton Foundation donor that he is. He succeeded.
But... there still are libertarians and conservatives that didn't and don't play into the rich racist vulgarian fascist wolf the Democrats have cried every Republican to be since well before I was born. That caricature finally showed up in the flesh, and I didn't vote for him when he was either Romney or Trump. Letting "former Democrats" decide what the Republican Party represents is probably still a running gag around the bonfire parties of Rick Perry's Camp N*ggerhead. I refuse to get smeared by that paint roller now that "working class Democrats" have finally sufficiently polluted the GOP beyond recognition.
Yes, the Republican Party is now excrement. But that doesn't mitigate the fact that the Democratic Party has always been excrement. I fully support the efforts of the Jan 6th committee to root out, tree, branch and tree every bit of Trump's planned and invited attack on Congress. It's hard and heartbreaking to me that Ashli Babbitt's body is buried in American soil rather than stacked atop Osama bin Laden's bullet-riddled corpse in the Indian Ocean somewhere.
I'm embarrassed by all the otherwise good people at the diner vocalizing their redneck fantasies of re-enacting the Red Dawn movie in some sort of civil war against the liburle eleetz that are giving all our good paying technology jobs to Mexican migrant farmers. I get it, RJW. Trump voters are dumber than drywall spackle. Absolutely agreed. It's blue sky obvious.
BUT, that ain't all of us. Just because the Republican Party has leaned really hard into being the political Jacksonville Jaguars doesn't mean we become Democrat Detroit Lions fans, or worse, start hating football all together.
The pendulum will eventually swing back over to the libertarians and conservatives that saw where Trump was pushing the pendulum and said, "nah, I'd rather be right-wing."
Betterhan walking off the side of a cliff carrying a bottle of putrid water marked with a picture of an elephant. I in no way sided with Democrats, or the left. I simply didn't follow Trump's choo-choo full of imbeciles over there to La-La Land. Not every criticism of the Republican Party has to trigger libertarians and conservatives or even generic center-right folks. They're not the same thing anymore.
Psst. Biden hasn't changed a single Trump policy of consequence. Not one. Enjoy your tariff-bared grocery and retail shelves and ridiculous gasoline prices. Biden did... nothing about the course Trump set.
Ronald: If you're "reasonably sure" of that, you are hopelessly naive. Everything coming out of the House and Senate is political propaganda with an official seal on it.
Leaving me out of it, any sane person who compares your partisan rantings with Farmer's erudite and classics-based comments, you stand out as the partisan political tea gulper.
Sounds like the best kind... a Nash Equilibrium! A kinda Partyless party.
The formula of the Party-State, as the defining feature of twentieth-century Communism, thus needs to be complicated: there is always a gap between Party and State, corresponding to the gap between the Ego-Ideal (symbolic Law) and the Superego, for the Party remains the half-hidden obscene shadow which redoubles the State structure. There is here no distance, its organization embodying a fundamental distrust of the State organs and mechanisms, as if they need to be continually kept in check. A true twentieth-century-style Communist never fully accepts the State: there always has to be a vigilant agency outside of State control, with the power to intervene in the State's business. - Slavoj Zizek, "Living in the End Times"

CI... I'm not trying to be obtuse, but trying to understand the differences here.
Take OKC, Boston, Uvalde & Buffalo... based on statements from the guilty and info we have, they all appear to have been intended to coerce, kill or intimidate a civilian population.
Who's clamoring for policy changes after the Uvalde shootings? It's already a moderate to difficult hassle to get AR-15 style rifles, much less the knockoff varieties like the one acquired by the shooter that somehow couldn't get a diploma out of a public school, and they usually pass those out like participation trophies for showing up most of the time. Obviously existing laws failed to be enforced. What new law is needed?
Guns are a beauty mark on America's soul. Slavery was another. But for these "imperfections", she would be almost perfect in the eyes' of the neo-lliberals.... The stains of ideological purity, forevercleansed.
Quest tv show- America's Book of Secrets a few weeks ago aired this very subject. I found out about this back in 1994 when I starting researching Henry A. Wallis.
The Uvalde LEO who was the IC outside of Robb Elementary, should probably apply for the witness protection program. Or eat a 9mm. At this point, I don't really care what happens to him or her.
You're not wrong. This event has shown that armed parents might have saved some lives, and they weren't even kitted out in Lvl 4 body armor like the Uvalde PD.
But should we even expect any different, given that so many SCOTUS and lower court cases cases have ruled that LEO's have no "duty" to actually protect Citizens?
That "thin blue line" is looking thinner by the day...
That picture of "Build Back Better" should really read "Build Back Crack," all those "clean" crack pipes they are giving away. But hey, maybe this can cheer us up! Like the dude says this is just 1984 rebranded.
President Joe Biden gave Ukraine Billions. Hunter and "The Big Guy" can't afford to miss a paycheck. Isn't that what some would call [Money Laundering]?
Bubba Clinton visited (hat in hand) OPEC to ask for price increase for a Barrel of Oil. Marc Rich had warehouses stocked full of Barrels to the Rafters, and made Millions. Marc Rich could not enter the USA, so he had his (ex) Wife deliver a check for Millions - handed to Hillory - to give to the DNC. That was seen on all the Media.
Gas/Fuel Stock Options are used to make millions when Gas Prices at the Pump is increased. One Hundred thousand gallons are sold for a "LOT" for $10 thousand. Several "LOTS" (over Ten LOTS) will add up to over millions of gallons, with only $1 increase at the Pump, the purchaser of the Option will receive Millions. The Unions will participate every Election Year. The Unions (and HANDLERS for the DNC) will give Millions to the DNC. When the Option time expires the Unions (and Handlers) will walk away without purchasing the Stock. And the investment for the Options is a small investment for reaping Millions. And this year as the same when Bubba and Obama pulled this trick, OVER $4 a gallon. Just over $2 a gallon PROFIT - given to the DNC!
Martha Stewart was never found guilty with insider trading. She fell victim to the old "False Statement." In fact she claimed that her broker sold said stocks .
Lefties, this is exactly what you wanted! So keep it up and ahead continue to DEFUND THE POLICE, , continue to arrest them for doing their job. CONTINUE TO BRING THEM UP ON MURDER CHARGES EVERY TIME THEY TAKE DOWN A VIOLENT CRIMINAL. Eventually you will have what you want, Police Officers who stand by and watch. You should be very proud of yourself Lefty this is the Police force YOU Crack-Pots have created.
To those Cops, it made absolute sense for them to be hesitant, in risking their own lives, and the lives of those children rather than being Convicted of Killing a Killer! And risk the Black Lives Matter Bunch Protesting against the Cops for shooting that Lunatic who killed those POOR CHILDREN.
President Trump ran the country like a billion dollar business - efficiently and fairly, and the country responded by having PROSPERITY, and we had EVERYTHING we wanted, and needed. NO SHORTAGES, NO INFLATION, and NO INSANE PRICES for Gas, Food, and .Baby Formula.
This PRESIDENT turned out to be something to laugh and point at. If the stuttering, blabbering, delusional l clown isn't pooping in his pants in public, he’s running away from the press and their questions. We've never seen anything like this stammering clown before..... because we've never had anything likehim
Look at the condition that our country is ni right now...and our “PRESIDENT”, and his COHORTS are responsible for it all. And the sad thing about it all is that the problems we have right now are all fixable...and the Democrats know Dam well it is. They can fix the border by reverting back to Trump's Policies on the border. They can lower the cost of Gas by going back to Trump's polices on oil and natural gas production. Bringing the cost of Gas and Diesel fuel back down will immediately bring down the cost of goods in the US but they will never DO that because they don't really CARE about your average American working person and haven't for YEARS now! Biden is about the elite that don't care about the masses. They have their agenda and they're laser focused on getting it passed now matter what the effects are on the people they represent! Just remember all of this come next November folks! There is only one thing that they DO understand and that's losing power!
Well, what do you know, Here’s Something New... Biden Blames Guns! There he goes again. Using the Texas tragedy of dead kids for political grandstanding. What an Hypocritical Moron. First of all, like always, the Democrats NEEDED a Distraction from the Texas shooting because of the Sussmann trial is blowing up in the FBI's faces. So our Dear Leader come out with that horrible speech that was completely nauseating. The first two minutes he was going full stream on emotional pandering and then flips the switich and goes into Gun Control.
The Stuttering, Blabbering Delusional Patient had to read something a intern press Secretary put together in 5 minutes and then ran it thru it like a 4th grader would. . The stammering clown said NOTHING from the heart. Only mumbling Marxist talking points and used the memories of murdered children to gain compassion. .
Hey do you remember the Christmas Parade massacre, where a speeding Car ran through the people that were Parading? ? No, well that's OK, because Biden must have forgot it also, as he never spoke about it.

DeleteSleep, comrades, sleep and rest
On this Field of the Grounded Arms,
Where foes no more molest,
Nor sentry’s shot alarms!
Ye have slept on the ground before,
And started to your feet
At the cannon’s sudden roar,
Or the drum’s redoubling beat.
But in this camp of Death
No sound your slumber breaks;
Here is no fevered breath,
No wound that bleeds and aches.
All is repose and peace,
Untrampled lies the sod;
The shouts of battle cease,
It is the Truce of God!
Rest, comrades, rest and sleep!
The thoughts of men shall be
As sentinels to keep
Your rest from danger free.
Your silent tents of green
We deck with fragrant flowers
Yours has the suffering been,
The memory shall be ours.

DeleteSpraypaint a scary black rifle pink and it is still just as lethal.
DeleteGuns are a beauty mark on America's soul. Slavery was another. But for these "imperfections", she would be almost perfect in the eyes' of the neo-lliberals.... The stains of ideological purity, forever cleansed.
DeleteBeauty Marks that sustain the neo-liberals absolute faith in the efficacy and possibility for a continued "ordered existence".

They have to take our guns soon for this to take place.
More children, more children - Over turn Roe - and watch.

A lady in the video said, the people will have to endure pain, so the Rich and Affluent Supremacist can achieve power.
DeletePleeease watch the video.
Quest tv show- America's Book of Secrets a few weeks ago aired this very subject. I found out about this back in 1994 when I starting researching Henry A. Wallis.
DeleteThere is a bill to safe gaurd schools. Schummer KILLED IT!
ReplyDeleteThe Uvalde LEO who was the IC outside of Robb Elementary, should probably apply for the witness protection program. Or eat a 9mm. At this point, I don't really care what happens to him or her.
ReplyDeleteCriminal malfeasance.
Unfortunately, too many local cops are unqualified. I support some national standards. I acknowledge I am sitting on my ass as I criticize others.
DeleteYou're not wrong. This event has shown that armed parents might have saved some lives, and they weren't even kitted out in Lvl 4 body armor like the Uvalde PD.
DeleteBut should we even expect any different, given that so many SCOTUS and lower court cases cases have ruled that LEO's have no "duty" to actually protect Citizens?
That "thin blue line" is looking thinner by the day...
+1
DeleteCops get paid whether they actually do society any good or not. It's the ultimate welfare freeloader's government paycheck.
That picture of "Build Back Better" should really read "Build Back Crack," all those "clean" crack pipes they are giving away. But hey, maybe this can cheer us up! Like the dude says this is just 1984 rebranded.

President Joe Biden gave Ukraine Billions.
ReplyDeleteHunter and "The Big Guy" can't afford to miss a paycheck.
Isn't that what some would call [Money Laundering]?
Bubba Clinton visited (hat in hand) OPEC to ask for price increase for a Barrel of Oil.
DeleteMarc Rich had warehouses stocked full of Barrels to the Rafters, and made Millions.
ReplyDeleteThe Unions will participate every Election Year.
This could be called INSIDER TRADING.
DeleteAsk Martha Stewart about it.
Martha Stewart was never found guilty with insider trading. She fell victim to the old "False Statement." In fact she claimed that her broker sold said stocks .
DeleteAfter what the post above was exposing, and only Martha peeked your interest?
DeleteWhat is this world coming to?
The Biden cartoon is sadly on target. Yes. He has always been this dumb. Just more glib in the past.
ReplyDeleteBAYSIDER
Martha Stewart was never found guilty of LYING to the FBI.
ReplyDeleteLefties, this is exactly what you wanted!
ReplyDeleteTo those Cops, it made absolute sense for them to be hesitant, in risking their own lives, and the lives of those children rather than being Convicted of Killing a Killer!
ReplyDeleteThis PRESIDENT turned out to be something to laugh and point at.
ReplyDeleteThere he goes again.
ReplyDeleteNo, well that's OK, because Biden must have forgot it also, as he never spoke about it.
