Now that the dust here in the Old Dominion appears to have settled, please consider this essay by Larry Elder: The Virginia Blackface Follies, which points out the following:
...Nearly 70 percent of black kids are born to unwed mothers. The dropout rate in some urban high schools approaches 50 percent. Of those who do graduate, many cannot read or do math at a 12th-grade level.

The No. 1 cause of preventable death for young white men is accidents, such as car accidents. The No. 1 cause of preventable death for young black men is homicide, almost always committed by other young black men....According to a 2017 report by the Centers for Disease Control, a black child is almost 10 times more likely to be a victim of a gun-related homicide than a white child.

But let's talk about 35-year-old blackface pictures.

    1. What's it to you? Are you the Speech and Morality Police? Who commissioned you to police ANYBODY?

    2. Morality police? No. I prefer to think of it as a tweaker of conscious.

  2. We keep hearing we are s violent country:
    51% of the Murders come from 2% of U.S. Counties
    Where the cities do all they can to disarm its citizens.

    2. Excellent point, Bunker, and one of THE best arguments in favor of keeping the Electoral College anyone could ever hope to make.

      Simple majority rule –– the moral equivalent of two wolves and a sheep deciding what's to be eaten for dinner –– ALWAYS ends in disaster.

  3. SOMETHING TO ENCOURAGE AND CHEER EVERYONE WHO LONGS FOR HONESTY AND DECENCY TO PREVAIL:

    __________ Truth Never Dies __________

    Truth never dies. The ages come and go.
    The mountains wear away, the stars retire.
    Destruction lays earth’s mighty cities low;
    And empires, states and dynasties expire;
    But caught and handed onward by the wise,
    Truth never dies.

    Though unreceived and scoffed at through the years;
    Though made the butt of ridicule and jest;
    Though held aloft for mockery and jeers,
    Denied by those of transient power possessed,
    Insulted by the insolence of lies,
    Truth never dies.

    It answers not. It does not take offense,
    But with a mighty silence bides its time;
    As some great cliff that braves the elements
    And lifts through all the storms its head sublime,
    It ever stands, uplifted by the wise;
    And never dies.

    As rests the Sphinx amid Egyptian sands;
    As looms on high the snowy peak and crest;
    As firm and patient as Gibraltar stands,
    So truth, unwearied, waits the era blessed
    When men shall turn to it with great surprise.
    Truth never dies.

  4. Hey man! This is your old friend FreeThinke who was forced by Technotyarnts to assume a new identity. Great to see YOU back in circulation. You've been missed.

    I've tried to reach you several times, but apparently all your contact information has been changed.

    IF you'd like to write to me, AOW has my information. If you write to her, I'm sure she'd be willing to act as a go-between till we've resumed contact.

    I made a NEW Beethoven sonata recording last sprng to celebrate my 77th birthday. It's on YouTube. I think you'd enjoy it.

    Anyway, I hope all is well with you?

  5. Larry Elder is an ACE, Ed. One of my very favorite commentators. Always calm, sensible, genial and above all DIRECT.

    I wish FOX would give him hisown show. He's MUCH better than most of their regulars all of whom have gotten very tiresome.

  6. Sure, why not? That way we can avoid dealing with more systemic issues. Just for the record: I find the picture juvenile and tasteless, the kind of thing 2 young jerks might think is cool. It pours salt in the wounds of people they never thought would see this picture. But we have much weightier stuff to deal with.

    FA: Larry Elder DOES have his own show, on radio!

    You can get an RSS Feed of his column or show highlights here:
    https://www.larryelder.com/rss-feeds/
    and podcast his show here: https://larryelderado.com/member/signup/?utm_source=elder-website&utm_medium=listen-now-takeover&utm_campaign=99-cent-offer

    He's on Salem's network. Live 3-6 pm PT.
    I listen online sometimes. Here's a 'video' version for the live show: https://www.larryelder.com/watch-the-show/
    It goes dead on commercials with a "we'll be back" note on screen.
    I listen to the re-broadcast locally between 6-9 PT. Here: https://am870theanswer.com/programguidedaily

    Hope this helps!

  7. What interesting statistics.

    Of course making yourself even more of an idiot than you already are by wearing appalling plaid trousers and handing out cotton like candy is far more important.

    Similar to statues, when you think about it. Imagine the quality of high school grades when all the statues of General Lee are finally pulled down. Then there's Stonewall, think of the 3R advantage we'll have when he's gone.

    Sherman, surely, was less destructive than our current batch of Bolsheviks.
