I've Handed Over The Keys

Updated 11/21

Until further notice, my dear friend Warren will be taking over posting here at Always On Watch.

Warning!  Warren does not suffer fools gladly!

Explanation of my absence below the fold.

I will be undergoing either ureteral pyeloplasty (3-4 hour surgery and an in-hospital stay, followed by at least 3-4 weeks of recovery at home) or a nephrectomy. Whichever surgery I have, I will be out of the loop for a while.  Pain management even before this surgery has been a major problem and will become even more difficult following surgery.  **sigh**

Former blogger The Merry Widow arrived here on Tuesday, October 25, and is taking care of Mr. AOW, Our Three Girls, and me.  She has put her own life on hold to help us.  Thank God that she is here!

As for Warren's role here at Always On Watch, he has full administrative powers over this blog, the template of which he created. He also created my AOW avatar. I have no better friend in the world than Warren!

Addendum by Warren
The blog will mostly be in moderation due to constraints in my work hours. I will moderate as my time permits.

Addendum #2 by Warren
All went well with the surgery and AOW is resting in her hospital room.
Sorry, I couldn't get this up any sooner.

  2. I'm SO glad you and Mr. AOW have TMW there with you! You couldn't have a better, more caring and capable friend. God works in beautiful ways; here she studied and became a pro at what she does and now YOU need her in that capacity. I love that!
And, Warren...well, don't get me started. Who better COULD you leave the keys with?
God bless all of you....we'll all be praying, I know that.
love you, AOW...eager to hear "it's finally over, all is good, and the pain isn't that bad, AND they guarantee a recovery future which indicates ALL IS WELL NOW!"

  5. You already know how I feel about this, AOW. Needless to say my prayers, fondest hopes, and kindest thoughts are being sent your everyday.

Of course they extend to Mr. AOW, to Warren and to TMW as well.

All I can offer is to be receptive if you should want to call me on the phone. Needless to say, I wish I could offer more.

    Vaya con Dios!

  8. I'm dreading the at-home, post-op prep....

Sunday: all liquid diet, gulp down 5 oz. of magnesium citrate at 1:00 P.M., shampoo and shower, Hebiclens scrub.

Monday: shampoo and shower, Hebiclens scrub. Arrive at the hospital no later than 8:00 A.M., surgery @ 10:00 A.M. or 10:30 A.M. -- if the surgeon is on schedule.

No way could I do all this by myself! Too sick with pain.

      Thank you.

I hope to chat with you by phone when I'm recovered well enough.

  10. AOW, I hope this goes as easy as it can possibly go for you.

Warren, I respectfully ask that you not include pictures of the beast in your new capacity of Chief AOW Blog Cook and Bottle Washer. We've seen enough of the beat to last us a lifetime.

    1. Good idea, Kid. That THING has been so firmly embedded in our collective consciousness for so long it's hard NOT to think of "IT," –– we've almost been ADDICTED to expressing our distaste, fear, contempt and loathing for YEARS ––, but since "IT" has been vanquished, and can no longer pose a threat –– thank God! –– a complete withdrawal from Clinton Derangement Syndrome is definitely in order.

And again my prayers and fondest hopes for the easiest and most comfortable transition through the ordeal our friend AOW faces and a COMPLETE, ultimately PAIN-FREE RECOVERY.

I pray, also for the MORALE and WELL-BEING of AOW's entire household in this difficult time, and want to add special thanks to TMW for the blessed role she is playing out of the goodness of her dear heart –– and to Warren for steering the good ship AOW through the shoals.

    2. FT,
I'm dreading today's prep and tomorrow's surgery -- and the days following the surgery.

Losing my independence has been a real blow to this stubborn woman of Welsh and German ancestry.

  11. AoW...I will continue to say prayers asking that God's healing hand guides your surgical staff to restore your health, eliminate your pain and permit you to fully heal with ease. May God bring succor to Mr. AoW and each of the care providers during your absence and recovery. (((hugs)))

    1. HRW,
Dear friend, thank you so much for your words of comfort and support.

Although we have never met face-to-face, I feel as if I know you. If I'm not mistaken, we first became acquainted in the early days of Jihad Watch. Your very name, Her Royal Whyness, is a bit of genius!

Will catch you on the other side of this ordeal I'm forced to endure.

    2. Though we've never met, the sentiment is mutual. I've been watching the clock imagining each step of the process you've endured today. Still praying all went better than anticipated in the OR and recovery...as well as at home with Mr AoW and your loyal crew. God bless. -HRW

Warren for steering the good ship AOW through the shoals

Warren is a gem! I completely trust his judgment. And he has full rein here at the blog.

    Stay strong.

  15. We'll be thinking and praying for you, AOW. Hurry back! The duck won't survive Warren long... ;)

  16. Warren, please let us know the minute you hear anything about how she's doing! Or TMW!
Looking forward to good news! Z

  17. I've talked to TMW twice today, everything is fine on the home front. I received a text from AOW, the pain issues still have to be ironed out and she may get to come home before Thanksgiving.

  18. Z-AOW, should be home by tomorrow evening. The surgery went well, according to the doctor. Just the usual pain and exhaustion after surgery. The fact that, AOW, has called both, Mr. AOW and myself is a good sign!
G-D is good...we are looking at a positive fix.

    tmw
Keep up the prayers, it's been something else at the homestead! Mr. AOW, getting over some sort of virus, me recovering from a sinus infection and, AOW...we are having a time...but, we will get through this too!

    1. Hi, definitely keeping up the prayers...
Won't we all be thrilled when the typical pain and exhaustion from surgery is gone and she's well again!!
Will pray for you and Mr. AOW, too...Oh my gosh...what a time in the AOW household.
They are SO blessed to have you there.

Hoping you can have a happy Thanksgiving.

  21. I got home about 4:00 today.

According to my surgeon's team, all my lab numbers are "perfect."

I surely don't FEEL perfect. So much pain!

Add to the pain the spasms which result in episodes of temporary incontinence. TMW will have to do extra loads on laundry. **sigh**

    1. GLAD you're home and that all is "perfect!"
AOW, so when you recover from the surgery discomfort, you should be fine, or??? Praying for you and in relief that TMW is there with you both.

    2. Z,
We won't know for a while whether or not this surgery cures the pain cycle in which I've been trapped.

  23. Mr. AOW, has even threatened to slap me...lol! Can you imagine me in Heaven? For ALL Eternity? A friend of mine has told me that he will run away everytime he sees me there! That's bad!

    Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving, all!
