I took this quick photo of this morning's sky as it looked across the street from my back porch:
The sunrise was pinker than the camera shows, and the entire D.C. region was bathed in a soft-rose glow.

... Probably caused by DC's bonfire of sanity and liberty...
ReplyDeleteApologies, couldn't resist. We need to enjoy beauty whenever and wherever we find it.
SF,
DeleteDC's bonfire of sanity and liberty -- no doubt.
SF - but that still hits a nerve, it's so true.
ReplyDeleteLovely photo, AOW. My camera does same, so I can imagine the scene.
We're only here for a little stay.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry. Don't hurry,
And be sure to stop
And smell the flowers along the way.

And you, AOW, have done just that with your camera amidst all the turmoil, rage, pain, illness, incredible stupidity and anxiety.
Thank you for reminding us what's truly important.
FT,
DeleteI am indeed trying to mind people of what's truly important.
Most people don't even want to look at something pretty. It's election season.
"Miracle Fair" by Wislawa Szymborska
ReplyDeleteThe commonplace miracle:
that so many common miracles take place.
The usual miracle:
invisible dogs barking
in the dead of night.
One of many miracles:
a small and airy cloud
is able to upstage the massive moon.
Several miracles in one
an alder is reflected in the water
and is reversed from left to right
and grows from crown to root
and never hits bottom
though the water isn't deep.
A run-of-the-mill miracle:
winds mild to moderate
turning gusty in storms.
A miracle in the first place:
cows will be cows.
Next but not least:
just this cherry orchard
from just this cherry pit.
A miracle minus top hat and tails:
fluttering white doves.
A miracle (what else can you call it):
the sun rose today at three fourteen a.m.
and will set tonight at one past eight.
A miracle that's lost on us:
the hand actually has fewer than six fingers
but still it's got more than four.
A miracle, just take a look around:
the inescapable earth.
An extra miracle, extra and ordinary:
the unthinkable
can be thought.
Yes, easy to forget what life is all about. So hard now when a few of us are aware that the destiny of our Nation is now at critical mass and can go either way. It pains me to think of all those who before us sacrificed so much so we could enjoy such sights.
ReplyDeleteIt's been bathed in a RED glow since the Democrats moved in :-)
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, that's a very pretty picture!
Starting a day looking at that give one hope.
ReplyDeleteIt's a Beauty...
ReplyDeleteSo are your Celestial Nebulae, Kid.
DeleteAOW,
ReplyDeleteThe image makes me want to hop a flight and come to see you right now! I recognize the home. Yep. I need to book that flight!

Tammy,
ReplyDeleteI'm ready for your visit! The guest room is clean.
I'm hoping that the coming nephrostomy will restore my appetite. I'm tired of not being hungry.
