So, what's on your mind?

A link to get this thread started...

Groped between the legs and a firework thrown into a hoodie: Brave female victims reveal the horrifying details after attacks by sex mob of 2,000 'North African and Arab' men in Cologne
  • Two more Cologne victims describe being sexually assaulted and attacked
  • One, Jenny, suffered severe burns when a firework was shoved in her hood
  • Similar attacks also occurred on New Year's Eve in Hamburg and Stuttgart
  • Police have admitted they fear it was part of a known criminal enterprise
  • Fear it was a professional gang who sexually assault women as distraction
  • Cologne town centre has been called a 'no-go area' by its own city council
  • There are now fears the upcoming carnival will be scene of similar assaults

And note this graphic from this post over at Mike's America:

  4. The righteous outrage from Europeans would be deafening were it not for government scolding, shaming and censoring people. They will only be able to ignore Babar the Elephant in the room for so long...

On a separate topic, like all his imperious actions and royal decrees, there is much mischief in Emperor Obama's Executive Order on Guns

The mental health provisions alone gives the government Stalinesque powers.

Breaking down the HIPAA barrier to allow health professionals to alert the authorities is just a start.

Where's the adjudication? All it says is that someone who's been reported to the authorities by a health professional will be "provide(ed) a mechanism for people to seek relief from the federal prohibition on possessing a firearm for reasons related to mental health"

How many vets with PTSD will this chase out of the mental healthcare system?

The next step in the Soviet Style system is for government to force dissenters into compulsory psychiatric evaluations in order to disarm them.

Remember that they made Dinesh D'Souza go through such an evaluation, although his lawbreaking was a campaign funding violation and had nothing whatsoever to do with mental health.

Given that we all commit Three Felonies a Day, thanks to the confusing byzantine tangle of ever expanding federal dictates, if government wants you, all they gotta do is stake you out. In the ordinary course of your day, you will commit a violation and they can haul you in.

Republicans in congress have crafted legislation, but Obama is not interested in rolling up his sleeves coming up with real, bipartisan solutions.

What's really ODD is that Babeu got fairly tough but none of the news I can find covers it...it's just bizarre!

Re the Right and its media, it really bugged me to get an email from a friend of an article saying that OBAMA"S TOWN HALL EVEN WAS INVITATION ONLY (the obvious inference being he only had sycophants there)..That was totally true, it was by invitation, BUT Obama did invite the NRA(which didn't show up because they were told they got one screened question) and Babeu, for example.

    * Merkel is criminally insane. Europeans need to jail her and her criminal gang that did this to Europe.

    * Angela Merkel is Europe's Jim Jones, a suicidal death cultist.

    * Angela Merkel, pasty-faces East German communist, is a Putin plant put in place to destroy Western Europe.

    * Germany can preserve their way of life and their beautiful, liberal culture. Or they can welcome in hordes of unassimilable people from an incompatible culture.

One or the other. They can't have both.

Reports: asylum seekers among Cologne attacks suspects

Police identified some suspects who harassed women in Cologne on New Year's Eve as asylum seekers, media reports say. City police reportedly did not want to publicize this because of its "politically awkward" nature.

    [...]

Seventy-one people were identified, 11 people were remanded into custody and 32 criminal complaints were registered, according to the Welt am Sonntag (WamS) report.

"There were, quite to the contrary of what was said publicly, identity checks on numerous people," the WamS quoted an unnamed officer as saying. "Most of them were recently-arrived asylum seekers."

The first internal police report on the event - a so-called "wichtige Ereignis Meldung" ("important event announcement") - spoke of a crowd mainly of "North African and Arab" origin. According to the Kölner Stadt-anzeiger, the officer leading the team at the station wanted the report to include mention of the Syrians and asylum seekers, but the senior officer writing the "WE-Meldung" decided not to, saying it would be "politically awkward."

  9. Why is it so difficult for Western leaders to understand that it would be much better all the way around to work out a solution for these people to stay in a safe zone in Syria? Better yet, SOLVE the Syrian problem and do something about the rampant spread of ISIS across North Africa. Then you wouldn't have these hordes heading north.

What we are seeing now in Europe is the FAILURE to actually address the real problem. The consequence will be that the problem not only GROWS in the Middle East but spreads much faster in the West. Who can't see that?

    1. Mike, I think it is easy to call for a solution, making it sound as if no one wants that solution.

The question of what to do is, as I am sure you know, is very hard.

What should we do? How can we be sure whatever that proposed solution is, will work?

What if there is no solution a majority of the American people will support? Should we go ahead anyways?

No doubt, this is a mess, but a something approach, absent specifics, I don't think, is going to get us closer to the goal.

    3. We may well be at the point where the only "solution" is going to be very strict isolationism, which is really not a solution at all.

Major instability in an area which still controls a great deal of the world's energy resources will have ramifications.

Does Islam need a reformation? I doubt anyone would argue that matter. There have been attempts in the past but there is also a serious thread of socialism in Islam and that has caused Western opposition to the detriment of all involved (Mosaddegh is the prime example).

I'm afraid, Mike, that solving the "real" problem will require admission of our screw ups before progress is possible.
Caught between the imposition of dictatorship or radical Salafists, people are going to try to get out.

If we could step back and calm ourselves we would understand that the American muslim population has been able to meld and can be a powerful voice for a humanist Muslim reformation.

    4. Ducky,
I grant you our cold war aversion to anything hinting as socialism was to everybody's detriment in some cases, but Mossadegh was a secular academic. The Clerics hated him. We did the Mullahs' dirty work for them, unfortunately.

We need to arm up Egypt, Jordan and the Kurds and let them clean the place up, no matter how bloody it gets.

Sisi is willing to get the Egyptian scholars in line, and that is the other important component, along with the complete strangulation of Saudi Wahhabism. We can't do it. Muslims there in the region must.

Meanwhile, we provide the millions it takes to build safe, clean refugee camps. Bringing in unassimilable people is not the answer.

    7. Dave: The solution to a problem is usually easiest and accomplished at the lowest possible cost if the problem is tackled early, not left to fester. This is true whether we are talking about cancer treatment or foreign policy.

Remember Obama's "red line" in Syria that disappeared? He had an opportunity to act. But even then, the problem was already well established.

The situation goes back to 2011 when Obama, all for political reasons, pulled all remaining U.S. troops out of Iraq and allowed intelligence networks to collapse and ISIS to take hold. Obama made NO EFFORT to negotiate a Status of Forces Agreement with Iraq that would have allowed the U.S. to stay engaged.

At the very least we could still put up a safe zone in Syria. We've done this before in Iraq and it worked. But Obama isn't doing ANYTHING.

I could go on for hours on this topic but what's the point. Obama cares more about left wing politics than he does about implementing a practical, EFFECTIVE foreign policy.

Until the adults are back in charge I don't expect much to change. The damage by then will be severe and the consequences will be bloody!

Voter approval of Barack Obama is only 42 percent, while 53 percent disapprove of his job performance. Obama’s approval numbers are near the historic lows of his presidency.

Worse, however, are Obama’s marks on a number of important issues. In fact, on every issue tested, whether improving health care or containing ISIS, a strong majority of voters believe Obama will be remembered more for his failures than successes.

Hillary’s challenge isn’t just Obama’s unpopularity, however. She receives the lowest marks of any candidate running for president on being honest and trustworthy. Only 36 percent of voters believe Hillary is honest. A staggering 62 percent, almost two-thirds, say she is not trustworthy.

  22. You really don't have to make anything up to embarrass the writers of the conservative bible or conservapedia for that matter. (Salon linked me to the conservapedia article on Obama, I thought it was parody similar to dikipedia.)

The well-known parable Jesus told about the householder going to the market to hire laborers in Matthew 20 is simple to understand. The man hires laborers early in the morning. Then he goes back three more times to hire men at 9:00 a.m., 12:00 noon and 3:00 p.m. Each man has been told he will receive one denarius for his labor. Finally the man returns to the market to hire more men at 5:00 p.m. (the eleventh hour.) Every man is paid the same. The ones who worked all day understandably grumble that the last men received the same wage. The householder tells them he has honored his agreement and he is free to do with his money what he will.

The parable teaches the Jews that Gentiles too will receive a full inheritance of the kingdom of God even as the Jewish people who have been with God since the very beginning. A similar message to that of the parable of the prodigal son. Here is the conservative bible take on things:

At issue is not the principle of "equal pay for comparable worth," but that an employer has the absolute right to pay whatever wage he wishes to pay, so long as he honors his agreements without discrimination. In the same way, God has the absolute right to reward those of us who serve Him exactly as He wishes, and He will always reliably honor the agreements He makes.

Sorry boys. That's blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Better get down on your knees and pray for forgiveness.

  24. You make law and order sound like a bad thing. Breaking the law is breaking the law no matter who is doing it. Bank robber, illegal immigrant, shutting down commerce are all illegal acts but treated differently.

We can have another Waco or we can just ignore them. Ignoring them seems to be the better choice. You are close to a border, how many crimes are committed by illegals crossing the border every day. The answer is a lot and people in that region threatened, vandalized and robbed every day so yes there is a correlation, both are illegal acts. I don't see the same attack on our ineffective handling of illegals so yes it is the same, they are committing a crime.

As to your post about being treated bad on other sites. Like this one, we are all at the mercy of the owner and her/his/it's/theirs set of rules. 25. Since it's an open thread I'd like to know if folks feel this story is under reported (from my perspective, a rhetorical question).

An appointed overseer in Flint, Michigan switched the city water supply to the polluted Flint river and despite a long period of complaints just let it be.
The populace is experiencing a variety of illness including lead poisoning in children.
The biochemistry dept. at U. Va. (I believe) has examined the water and stated that most of the effects could have been alleviated for under a million dollars of additional treatment.

Seems even more arch than just turning off people's water as they did in Detroit.

The problem of the government's lack of response to pollution/poisoning isn't limited to Flint, Michigan. See this, about the gas leak in Southern California: Porter Ranch gas leak triggers state of emergency in California. The leak (methane gas) was detected on October 23, 2015. October 23! 26. 90 plus % of Americans want background checks, a majority of GOPers want background checks, majority of NRA membership want background checks. It's not easy to get 90% of Americans to agree on anything these days.

when the background check vote came up in Congress, the GOP and a few Dems voted against it and the wishes of the American people and FOR the NRA leadership.

Mr Obama is clearly with the American people on this issue and those who voted against it are happy with his conclusion
