I regret never having visited Venice where I might have been able to listen to Gabrieli's music performed at St. Marks –– the place for which this music was originally written. I understand the acoustics there are uniquely suited to these brass choruses. At times as many as four different brass ensembles have performed Gabrieli's music simultaneously each place in a different part of the sanctuary. Must be thrilling beyond compare. No stereo system could possibly duplicate the effect.
