GOP Debate Of January 14, 2016

I was looking for a different kind of graphic for this blog post and stumbled across this cutie, whose body language personifies the future hopes and dreams for our republic:

Ted Cruz's daughter at January 14, 2016 GOP debate

More photos and videos at the Daily Mail: Muslims, guns, Hillary and Obama: Republicans square up in first debate of 2016 as Trump and Cruz lock horns, Christie calls the president 'a petulant child' and EVERYBODY hates Clinton.

Additional reading: It's Over for Jeb, Kasich, and Carson. Agree? Disagree?

Yes, indeed, but she should have added, "Morons waste their time and that of every one around them sneering, jeering, insulting, and casting aspersions on everyone in sight while taking pot shots at each other."

There was entirely too much BRAWLING and BAWLING last night, and nowhere near enough evidence of THOUGHT in the room.

I found it depressing that the emphasis was largely on "PERSONALITIES" with very little attention paid to specific ideas about how we might first DEFINE and then SOLVE the deadly serious problems that lie before us.

Loud, pushy, rhetoric and a lot of chest-thumping displays of too much testosterone are no help at all in making what-may-well-be the most MOMENTOUS decision of our lives.

As far as I am concerned –– a this surprised me greatly –– Governor KASICH came out as the most serious, well-informed person on the stage with a list of sound qualifications a mile long to back him up.

Dr, Carson appeared to be one of the sanest in the room, but he was nowhere near aggressive enough to have a meaningful impact on those rowdies.

FOX's obvious AGENDA was to try to goad those men into battling EACH OTHER instead of dealing intelligently with the issues. I'd be willing to bet the farm that FOX is a slave to the GOP Establishment, and would love to break Donald Trump.

Ted Cruz disappointed me. He's a brilliant, extremely informed, well-educated man, but he allowed himself to get drawn into a stupid shouting match with Trump –– a boisterous, petty, childish, vulgar display of temper that brought the proceedings down to the level of a barroom brawl.

The shouting and vying for attention seemed adolescent and did nothing to enhance the image of the Republican Party.

I thought it was the LEAST helpful yet in the entire series of Republican debates thus far.

    1. FT,
I don't agree with you about Kasich's Impact last night.

I DO agree with you about Fox's agenda and orientation.

    2. My, my, I agree with Freethinke. Kasich actually made a couple earnest attempts to discuss substantive issues but was brought down by the cat fight going on between Cruz, Trump and Rubio. Kasich is however making some progress according to the N.H. polls.

Carson looked like he was waiting for the 'ludes to kick in. He's past his sell date.

How far can Christie go claiming he can handle ISIS because he was once a U.S. attorney. The guy's obnoxious.

I believe that Rubio is simply not very bright. He was the one last night to mention Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi . Really a pathetic dumb little mutt.

The highlight for me would have been if Trump walked over and grabbed Jeb and just rag dolled him. I have to deal with his dumb ads right up till the primary. Another ditz.

So what do you have? Trump and Cruz (much sleazier than Hillary. Much) going at each other and slapping Marco around when he tried to break in.
The Republican contribution t our political health.

I never like Ted Cruz less than I did last night. There were better people on that stage last night than Trump or Cruz, but no one paid any attention to them. Why is that? Guys who show any real brainpower get stiff-armed. And you wonder why we're in the big mess we're in?

    1. Jessica,
America has been dumbed down to the point that brainpower has little power. **sigh**

  3. Marjorie,
It's a very strong possibility that our republic needs a bastard right now to counter the past years of a Dem administration.

  4. I thought that last night's debate was well done and not a snoozer. Embedded in the back and forth, I felt I got a better sense of the men who answered a number of questions I had. By the way, the Kiddie debate was terrific. I am sure it is out there on the internet. Kasich was the same arrogant know it all as before.

My schedule interfered with my seeing most of the Team B debate. Maybe I can find it on the web.

  5. Ted Cruz? Sorry, he corrupt like so many others in his party. How can you omit a 0.5 million dollar loan filing with the FEC? And how will that debt be politically leveraged if Cruz becomes the POTUS. Ted has always struck me as an influence panderer.

I will vote for Trump because I would rather have a possibly corrupt "unknown" than a corrupt "known" from the GOP. I hate the hypocrisy inside the Beltway.

I don't know enough details about that FEC matter. Will have to do some research.

    1. Yes Trumpy (aka Trumpf) is a liar, as well as a narcissist, demagogue, and is generally lacking in character all the way around. He has no experience in politics or government but the TP'ers love him nonetheless. Remember when Obama's lack of experience was a major problem with them? All of those Republicans are Hypocrites.

  7. I truly don't think Hillary will even be running when the time is close....Even her "supporters" are starting to actually wake up to this POS....Bernie, and Biden may end up hashing it out at the end.

  8. It is unbelievable to me that with all the scandalous evidence that has been presented against this woman regarding her lack of integrity and irresponsible behavior that lead to the horrific murders in Benghazi that so many idiots still want to see her as President! The only place this woman should be is in prison for her crimes, not leading, or should I say further destroying, our once great country! Wake up people before it is too late!

  9. She was quoting me, AOW, and may have understood that I was saying in a whimsical way, that ASLL the politicians are "bastards" in that they are either too nasty, too corrupt, too naive, or too inept to do the jobs they were elected to do adequately. That makes them ?'illegitimate" in the truest sense of the word, hence "bastards. " ;-)

  10. Muddy water?

Marco Rubio seeks to dismiss court challenge to his eligibility to be president:

...Rubio was born in Miami in 1971. But Rubio's Cuban immigrant parents did not become U.S. citizens until 1975.

That’s convinced so-called birthers to conclude Rubio is ineligible under Article 2 of the Constitution, which says "no person except a natural born citizen … shall be eligible to the Office of President."

The questions arose in 2011 when Rubio was being talked about as Mitt Romney’s running mate.

"It's nothing to do with him personally. But you can't change the rules because you like a certain person. Then you have no rules," New Jersey lawyer Mario Apuzzo told the Tampa Bay Times in 2011....

  11. Rubio was born on U.S. soil. That makes him a citizen. I am more concerned about Cruz. It is my understanding that a child of two Americans can be born abroad and still be a U.S. citizen - but only if BOTH parents are Americans. My husband was born in Peru because his Dad worked for Mobil Oil. Both parents were Americans. He has a birth certificate issued by the State Department.

Had be been birthed in Peru by an American father and a Peruvian woman, his status would have changed and he would be considered Peruvian.

    1. The concern in some quarters is that court rulings could upend birthright citizenship for those born of illegal immigrants even if the children were born on U.S. soil.

Not that I think such a ruling is likely. That said, one can never tell how a court might rule.

  13. Donald Trump's softness on Islam disgusts me. He wants to deny Muslims entry into America, when we should be denying them existence on our planet.
