Musical Interlude

I first heard this song at the 1992 funeral of Daniel Dobbs, the child of a couple with whom Mr. AOW and I were friends:

The story behind the song:
"Tears in Heaven" is a song by Eric Clapton and Will Jennings from the soundtrack to the film Rush. The song was written about the pain and loss Clapton felt following the death of his four-year-old son, Conor. Conor fell from a window of the 53rd-floor New York apartment owned by his mother's friend on March 20, 1991. Clapton arrived at the apartment shortly after the accident....

  1. Mrs. AOW's favorite cousin Jack died unexpectedly at the age of 49 a few weeks after Daniel died. At Jack's funeral, we saw many of the same people.

Every time I hear this song, I remember that terrible summer!

  2. Terrible thing, losing a child.

I had an older (at the time) cousin die suddenly and his mother was absolutely inconsolable. All she could say was "A mother isn't supposed to outlive her son." My cousin was in his 50s my aunt was in her 80s.

Mr Clapton was always a premier musician/guitar player but His lyrics unremarkable. He outdid himself with tears in heaven. Sorry it took such a crushing event.

  6. A beautiful song from a tragic event. Such is it with Life that beauty can stem from horror.
