Still Suffering! (And Open Thread)

As I mentioned last week, I'm having a terrible time with seasonal allergies.  I'm better thanks to Bob's recommendation to use NeilMed Sinus Rinse, but I'm still not up to my usual blogging routine.

Meanwhile, commenters may treat this post as an open thread.

Note: Sam has at least one post queued up for this week.

  1. Hang in, AOW. Sounds like you need a good rain.

  2. I've been using the Ocean spray and it really makes a difference (even though I don't really have allergies.)

    Get better real quick like...

  3. Now is the season. If that link is to a sinus salt rinse, yes, that helps because it clears out the infections that start up from the allergic irritation. Salt kills.

The yakking goes on eternal about immigration reform. How many years now have we been hearing politicians blab about it, and what have they accomplished? Several huge amnesties allowing 30 million Mexicans and others to stay without any penalty instead of being deported, no elimination of the anchor baby loophole, the border fence left unfinished and mostly unprotected and the Border Patrol insufficiently manned.

GOOD JOB, POLITICIANS! You sure know how to keep the votes coming in. Job security is certainly more important than national security, we all know that, right?

  5. The government is famous for taking something relatively simple, and making it too hard. So for example, back in the day, immigration used to be simple. If you weren’t an effing communist, you can come to America IF you can make a contribution. If you weren’t an effing anarchist, you can come to IF you can help make our country safer, stronger, and more economically viable. In essence, “Scumbags need not apply.” Simple. And also, wait your turn.

Nowadays, we have so many illegal aliens running around having babies that we literally don’t know who is here legally, and who isn’t. Now we have people who are allowed to come here even if their names appear on a terrorist watch list. And as these vipers are allowed to come here, and live in our communities, scum-sucking bottom feeders like Madeline Albright are laughing their butts off as the mess they created.

And suddenly, we need a path to citizenship for lawbreakers? Are they kidding? Does that mean members of Congress should be allowed citizenship?

  6. Rain -- we've finally had some -- does help. However, the histamine reaction, now pretty well tamed, has left me exhausted beyond belief. I need sleep, sleep, sleep! Unfortunately, I don't have the kind of job that offers sick leave (self-employment).

I'm not bouncing back the way that I used to do decades ago, when I was last plagued by reactions such as this one. I'm getting older and less resilient, I guess.

  7. Jack,
The immigration issue is the Gordian Knot -- all tangled up.

If I recall correct, under the Reagan Amnesty, the borders were supposed to be made secure. They weren't.

Frankly, I have little hope that this time around will bring anything different about our porous borders.

It seems to me that we need to dump the idea of anchor babies. I do wonder if the concept of anchor babies was the original intent of 14th Amendment; see THIS. Brief excerpt:

In 1866, Senator Jacob Howard clearly spelled out the intent of the 14th Amendment by stating:

"Every person born within the limits of the United States, and subject to their jurisdiction, is by virtue of natural law and national law a citizen of the United States. This will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners...

    [...]

In 1889, the Wong Kim Ark Supreme Court case10,11 once again, in a ruling based strictly on the 14th Amendment, concluded that the status of the parents was crucial in determining the citizenship of the child. The current misinterpretation of the 14th Amendment is based in part upon the presumption that the Wong Kim Ark ruling encompassed illegal aliens. In fact, it did not address the children of illegal aliens and non-immigrant aliens, but rather determined an allegiance for legal immigrant parents...

  8. Black Sheep's best post to date. All perfectly true.

Those SCOTUS decisions you mentioned were made before The Progressives took over. Need we say more?

I'm sorry you are having such an awful time, AOW, but I can NOT understand why you have not gone to see an ALLERGIST. There MUST be a series of shots or some powerful Rx you could take that would alleviate th extreme reaction you are having.

And I hate to tell you, but if you think "bouncing back" has become more difficult at YOUR tender age, just wait till you hit SEVENTY-plus.

Whoever said, "Old age ain't for sissies" was dead n target.

So, cheer up. Things could always be worse, and they WILL be, if you live long enough. ;-)

A GRUMBLE: These code word-number combinations are getting harder and harder and harder to decipher. PITA!

  9. I probably shouldn't say this but AOW is grouchy right now.

    FT,
She hasn't mentioned going to the doc. She is getting better.

I go to the doc in a week. If she's not well by then, she should talk to him to see what he recommends! Besides what she is already doing and staying inside. Pollen counts should be down soon. We hope!

  10. PS: The initiation of "Progressive Thinking" into our lives marked THE END of COMMON SENSE.

I believe there was evil intent behind it all along. "The Oligarchs" that most refuse to believe in are, and they've been amassing greater amounts of Power and Control for at least a hundred years.

We tend to BLAME Marx, but The Oligarchs have USED Marx just like they USE all other fractious, divisive phenomena and rebellious elements to confuse, weaken, divide and conquer.

Look how well they've succeeded in causing us to hate and fear EACH OTHER.

How did "they" do it? Through the incredible, ever-growing power of MASS COMMUNICATION. Magazines. Newspapers, Radio, Movies, Television -- OWNED and OPERATED and thus CONTROLLED by "moguls" with an AGENDA.

    Who are The Oligarchs?

The ones who FUND and thus CONTROL all these Sources of Mass Hypnosis, which is what public communication is REALLY all about.

Remember that old saying "All I know is what I read in the papers?"

Lots of truth in that. Extend it to the OTHER sources that produce the increasingly revolting phenomenon known as POP KULTCHAH and you will understand why things are the way they are.

  11. Ah yes, the anchor babies. Funny thing is I found that exact link when debating that section of the 14th amendment for debate class...

I understand why it was first proposed: so blacks were citizens, as a few states actually said the freed slaves could not be citizens, own houses, get a job, etc, ETC. Obviously, this was an issue. Equally as obvious, it is no longer one. The amendment needs to be changed to make very clear that both parents are full, legal citizens for the child to have a citizenship. Not visa, not illegal, full, compete citizens. It would help the problem!

As would, of course, strong borders, and us kicking people out of the country (we seem quite reluctant to do so). The latter is much easier said than done as many employers will shelter them (cheap, diligent workers), as will friends.

But, of course, Washington loovveess the illegals. They are easy to fool, easy to buy, easy to control, and overall very useful minions, as the government can utterly blackmail them into doing ANYTHING.

  12. Sorry to hear of your allergies, AOW. I get them too, had a serious attack about two weeks ago. I'm better now.

Nothing feels worse than spring allergies. It feels like someone tied your nose to the back bumper of a pickup and dragged your nostrils through ten miles of sagebrush and cactus. Yuk!

  13. I truly hope you feel better. I know what hell it is to suffer sinus/allergy problems. It took almost 3 weeks for me to finally feel better.

Get as much rest as you can and keep taking your meds, my friend.

    Love you!

  14. All this pollen etc from the trees is rough, especially when I was out using the leaf blower to try and clear it away. Hope you feel better soon, but you may have to suffer until Spring is over. So sorry.

  15. Debbie,
My misery has eased off. Last night was the first night in two weeks that I didn't have to take an antihistamine or use the sinus rinse.

Thanks to the allergy attack, I'm miles behind with my school work. Maybe I can catch up this weekend when Mr. AOW is at a coin show. I have papers to grade and course grades to average.

  16. I faithfully use Sinus Rinse every day, averaging at least three bottles, two squeezes at a time in each nostril about two hours apart. I had severe allergies before starting to use Sinus Rinse. Now those allergies are completely controlled. No medicines needed, and none taken for many years now. Taking them during the day clears out the nostrils enough so that I sleep well at night.

  17. Bob,
I said goodbye to chronic sinus problems 30 years ago. I have no idea why this year I suffered so much.

I don't need the rinse right now, but you are suggesting that I use it prophylactically, and I think that I will at least a few days every week -- except in the summer when the chlorine from the swimming pool does the trick.

I am indebted to you for telling me about NeilMed Sinus Rinse. "Saved" my life!
