Campus Censorship

With a hat tip to Joe Conservative of Political Tea Leaves:

YouTube blurb:
For over a generation, shocking cases of censorship at America's colleges and universities have taught students the wrong lessons about living in a free society. This video explains how higher education fails to teach its students to become critical thinkers by supercharging ideological divisions, promoting groupthink, and encouraging an unscholarly certainty about complex issues.

  1. When I was in college decades ago, it could be recognized for what it was. Now it is so pervasive and has reached down to kindergarten level, few will ever learn the reality of where these policies will lead to.

  2. Parents, teach your children well.

My wife and I have inoculated our Children, I hope it sticks through college.

They are good Christian libertarians who support liberty for all, even those they disagree with.

We've already had the talk about the university indoctrinators. They plan on just shutting up, taking it, and moving on.

There is a time and place for pushing back, and they will learn it as they go.

Notice how many clueless people we have floating around who also have college degrees?

It was the beginning of the end when they stopped teaching students how to think and instead began teaching them what to think.

Another victory for progressives, another defeat for America.

  3. Well, guess I'll see this if I ever go to law school...

But even outside collage, this is in all school systems, and has leaked into all ways of life. No one thinks anymore! No one debates! No one sits down and just talks, and talks, and TALKS, until something is learned. Here at home, we will sometimes discuss an issue we disagree on for hours on end. And while no one in the end is converted, we all walk away having learned something new, and having something to consider about our firm views.
But many have lost this ability. If anyone disagrees on anything, they are labeled as intolerant and bigoted. If you try and say something profound, you are mocked. If you make observations on life, you're told to get a blog- basically, shut up. The simple art of disagreeing intelligently is lost on everyone. It is called arguing. I can't count how many times I have to explain I'm not fighting, but arguing/debating, granted though, loudly. I'm loud! I'm half Irish, what do you expect (I'd probably be called racist for saying that...).

What to do, what to do. The left does not want us thinking, for an uneducated public is an easy to control one, a la the Proles. Its a dangerous trend we're in, and most people are so long blinded they cannot see it.

  4. So, is it any wonder that the likes of Obama could be elected, not only once but twice (?)!

Good One AOW! I just shared this with many.

  5. I'm afraid we have lost the culture war. There are so few parents who take an interest in their children's education. Homeschoolers and parents like Silverfiddle are the exceptions. The Liberals know that and take advantage of it.

  6. The universities are the "source" of all Authority in a democracy. THAT is where the Washington and State bureaucrats who "execute" Authority are trained and taught "how" to think.

An "empowered" democracy doesn't want "Independent" free-thinkers, it wants to accumulate power. And all that power eventually "accumulates" in Washington, DC.

  7. Portia, all that's been left of the Republic lies in your hands.

  8. This stuff has been going on for a good while now, it truly is sad. As to what we can do to turn things around, I don't know.

Our grandson has been in private Christian school all his life, will graduate there in three years.

  9. My degree is in biology so I didn't encounter too much BS until I attended classes on the other side of campus. Exit requirement courses, of course.

  10. Education needs to start at home and teach our children the truth and they will be armed with it for the rest of their lives.

Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."

As parents, conservatives, and Believers, we have the duty to obey God not man, especially Obama and marxist and socialist ideas.

  11. Regimentation, repeated messages, attacks on anyone who disagrees with your assertions, punishment for "wrong" thinkers, it all adds up to brain washing. If you want to know why law enforcement agencies and the U.S. military are branding Christians and conservatives enemies of the State, here's your answer.

Yes, we were far better off when we answered to God then, now, the Government!

  14. I, personally, believe ALL points of view ought to be discussed openly and as objectively as possible so that young people have the chance to see FOR THEMSELVES what is and is not true and good. If we IMPOSE even the best values through brow beating or any other form of coercion, we run the risk of fostering REBELLION and REJECTION of the very things we know would be best for out children and young adults.

It's a very fine line we need to walk. Alexander Pope, possibly the greatest master of rhyme in the English language said this:

Vice is a creature of such fearful mien
As to be hated needs to be seen
Yet seen too oft; familiar with her face
First we endure, then pity, then embrace.

If we made the effort to paraphrase his witty verse, we would find the key to handling many of the curious, puzzling phenomena that frighten, yet fascinate us simultaneously.

Suppression of disturbing thoughts is not the answer. Neither is celebration. We must find the happy medium where truth and serenity always reside.

Never easy. Never subject to mere formulaic instruction.

  15. I should have left my link to the piece about brainwashing here.

As an openly conservative political activist and organizer (I was already working on state level politics in college) I was the target of abuse from liberal professors who would have screamed bloody murder if I had dared disparage their views in the way they frequently did mine. Thankfully there was one Republican professor in the Politics Dept. and I took everyone of his classes to get an A for the grade abuse I suffered at the hands of the others to keep my average above water.

Sadly, you cannot express a free opinion on a college campus if that opinion is conservative or fails to support the socialist/liberal agenda.
