Fast & Furious And The Paris Jihad Attacks

(with a hat tip to Infidel Bloggers Alliance)

A real jaw-dropper. But should we really be surprised? Probably not.

Law Enforcement Sources: Gun Used in Paris Terrorist Attacks Came from Phoenix

One of the guns used in the November 13, 2015 Paris terrorist attacks came from Phoenix, Arizona where the Obama administration allowed criminals to buy thousands of weapons illegally in a deadly and futile “gun-walking” operation known as “Fast and Furious.”

A Report of Investigation (ROI) filed by a case agent in the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (ATF) tracked the gun used in the Paris attacks to a Phoenix gun owner who sold it illegally, “off book,” Judicial Watch’s law enforcement sources confirm. Federal agents tracing the firearm also found the Phoenix gun owner to be in possession of an unregistered fully automatic weapon, according to law enforcement officials with firsthand knowledge of the investigation.

The investigative follow up of the Paris weapon consisted of tracking a paper trail using a 4473 form, which documents a gun’s ownership history by, among other things, using serial numbers. The Phoenix gun owner that the weapon was traced back to was found to have at least two federal firearms violations—for selling one weapon illegally and possessing an unregistered automatic—but no enforcement or prosecutorial action was taken against the individual. Instead, ATF leaders went out of their way to keep the information under the radar and ensure that the gun owner’s identity was “kept quiet,” according to law enforcement sources involved with the case. “Agents were told, in the process of taking the fully auto, not to anger the seller to prevent him from going public,” a veteran law enforcement official told Judicial Watch.

[...]

The ATF ran the Fast and Furious experiment and actually allowed criminals, “straw purchasers,” working for Mexican drug cartels to buy weapons at federally licensed firearms dealers in Phoenix and allowed the guns to be “walked”—possessed without any knowledge of their whereabouts. The government lost track of most of the weapons and many have been used to murder hundreds of innocent people as well as a U.S. Border Patrol agent, Brian Terry, in Arizona. A mainstream newspaper [the Los Angeles Times] reported that a Muslim terrorist who planned to murder attendees of a Muhammad cartoon contest in Garland, Texas last year bought a 9-millimeter pistol at a Phoenix gun shop that participated in the ATF’s Fast and Furious program despite drug and assault charges that should have raised red flags. Judicial Watch has thoroughly investigated Fast and Furious and has sued the Obama administration for information about the once-secret operation

If the above report is true, how dare the Obama Administration yap about gun control?

  1. So Obama's feds armed the Paris terrorists... and he now argues that disarming the public and restricting THEIR arms purchases is the problem?

  2. Well FJ, at least for now, that conclusion cannot be supported by what we see in various articles about this. Everyone I've read seems to make the same leap to the Fast and Furious conclusion, but the evidence does not support that right now.

    Lots of rife speculation...

Would you be as skeptical if a GOP administration were being accused?

The claim here is extremely sketchy and Judicial Watch has a well earned reputation as a nutlog site.

In my view, as with past administrations, we won't know the extent of the snakiness thereof for at least a few years.

    4. Not supported? lol! What part of the "serial number" of a linked AK-47 wasn't "absolute" enough for you?

A number of Federal Firearms Licensed (FFL) gun dealers in the Phoenix area routinely contacted ATF when they noticed suspicious customers attempting purchases; for example, someone ordering large numbers of AK-47 variant rifles and other so-called "weapons of choice" used by the Mexican drug cartels, and paying with large sums of cash brought in a paper bag. But starting in fall 2009, instead of stopping the transactions or questioning the customers, ATF often encouraged select gun dealers to go ahead and complete suspicious sales. ATF further asked the gun dealers to continue to cooperate by selling to the suspicious customers repeatedly, and providing ATF with names and weapons' serial numbers. Several gun dealers expressed concerns to ATF: they worried if they cooperated in selling guns to suspected criminals, they would later be unfairly blamed or even prosecuted, and that some of the weapons might be used one day to murder federal agents.

"Grenadewalker" refers to another controversial ATF case out of Phoenix. In it, Jean Baptiste Kingery allegedly smuggled parts for as many as 2,000 grenades from the US to Mexico for killer drug cartels, sometimes under the direct watch of US law enforcement. Sources say Kingery could have been prosecuted twice in the US for violating export control laws but that each time, prosecutors in Arizona refused to make a case. In one instance, Kingery had allegedly gotten caught leaving the US with 114 disassembled grenades in a tire, but the ATF agent on the case says he was ordered by the US Attorney's office to let Kingery go because the grenade parts were "novelty items" and the case "lacked jury appeal." A year and a half after Kingery was first let go, Mexican authorities raided Kingery's stash house and factory and found materials for 1,000 grenades. Kingery allegedly admitted teaching cartels how to make grenades as well as helping cartel members convert semi-automatic rifles to fully-automatic.

    5. As I read the article it alludes to the illegal sale of a fully automatic rifle by a private citizen and the purchase of a 9mm. from a shop which mat have been part of F&F in the past.

Very sketchy. Probably out there to clear the palette after Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi and prime representative of the strong Repub bench, Trey Goudy, were finally flushed.

So you confiscate a fully auto weapon from a civilian, but don't prosecute him because you don't want to "anger him" so that he "goes public"? Acta non verba. Admissions of government guilt don't get much louder.

    9. If the gun WASN'T an F&F gun, why is the gun's former owner not currently in federal custody at Gitmo getting waterboarded to disclose who he sold the gun to?

    10. Here's the operative information, for those who still don't "get it".

The 4473 got filed with the feds, or they wouldn't have been able to trace it to the "seller" in Phoenix. The seller had illegally sold it "off book", meaning he didn't record it in his OWN sales book and technically still owned the gun used in the Paris attack, making him at a minimum, an accessory to one of the worst terrorist attacks in European history. Yet they charge him with NO VIOLATIONS... and are afraid of his "going public".

      Delete
    11. Makes you wonder what good the NIC is, if the ATF won't even charge the illegal seller of gun who harbored a fully automatic assault weapon and who illegally sold similar weapons to known terrorists with weapons law violations. Is this "prosecutorial discretion" or "coverup"? You decide.

  3. We have to remember that ANY story by a Conservative site is considered probably wrong by the left...it's just a fact and we should be used to it. little curiosity, little true journalism on their part;
-Lynch/Clinton's meeting (he somehow knew she was flying in..?... waited a while for her plane, then chatted privately with her for 30 minutes about golf and grandchildren and that's only considered "bad judgment" by the Left)
-Fast and Furious: agents told newspapers they were stunned when told to leave after having dropped off guns...under Bush, they did surveillance after dropping off guns...that was ignored by the Left...
Well, there are too many to list...

FJ is right...why wasn't the gun seller in this story prosecuted? WHY NOT?
And, by the way, the Left wants stronger gun laws and the Right keeps saying THEY EXIST, DO SOMETHING WITH THEM!!
Sounds like a perfect example of that to me.

    1. Why wasn't he? That's a damn good question.

Why was the purchaser of the gun used in the Texas attack allowed to buy a firearm with a violent background record?

Questions worth asking but what gets the headline - Fast & Furious which has nothing but a tangential relationship to this story.
I'm surprised he didn't report that the gun she used to kill Vince Foster was traced to F&F.

But like I say, meant to take the edge of the Benghazi!, Benghazi!, Benghazi! final report turning out to be strictly fish wrap.

  7. The liberal loony left’s response to ALL mass shooting incidents is always blaming gun control, their montra is always "there's just too easy access to guns" , and the availability of the wrong kind of guns. More recently the subject has broadened to include keeping certain types of people from buying guns, an aspect that at least contains a degree of rationality.

Last week President Barack Obama went to Orlando, FL to offer condolences , hugs, and love to the families of victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting, but could not resist turning the subject from the victims and their suffering in this tragedy into an opportunity talk about guns.
Hopefully those "hugs" will stop the violance .

    2. Ducky, did you know the details of the abortion cases in TX? it's basically to have kept young women alive in case something went wrong.....that Planned Parenthood with all their money couldn't comply is a problem for choice advocates who decided even killing babies wasn't worth THAT much money.
Here's a typical leftwing hurrah from Slate: "It felt as if, for the first time in history, the gender playing field at the high court was finally leveled, and as a consequence the court’s female justices were emboldened to just ignore the rules"
Ya, GENDER being so much more important than THE RULES to leftwingers. Sad.

      Delete
    3. The rules?

The rules are that you cannot pass laws that cause an undue hardship when there are no demonstrable medical benefits.

The admitting privileges dodge was a scam since clinics have doctors available on short notice to admit the woman if it's necessary (very rare).
The site requirements were more stringent than those for clinics performing more dangerous procedures.

The RULE OF LAW dictates that you cannot impose an undue burden when there is no commensurate health outcome benefit.
That's the rule and you got your head handed to you.

      Delete
    4. ya, there's where you and I differ; I'd say the threat of death during an abortion is an undue hardship and does have demonstrable medical benefits.
Why you people need to kill babies is so beyond me.

It didn't hand anything to ME; I feel for the girls who could die without the proper attention. But, that's just me, I guess.

Another outcome of this ruling is that the subterfuge of the far right disguising their attempts to ban abortion as a concern for woman's health is also over. The court shut the door on that as well.

  12. It is not enough for Lynch to recuse herself, either wholly or partially.

She has irrevocably tainted the investigation and prosecution/non-prosecution of Hillary and Bill and the Clinton Foundation.

Even Democrats are pulling their hair out over this, that is how bad the loss of trust has become. Sure, Democrats will give her a perfunctory benefit of the doubt, but the damage is done.

This is particularly so because of prior statements from Obama and the administration suggesting that Hillary did not jeopardize national security. That alone was impermissible interference, signalling to the FBI what is expected of it, Obama improperly leaps to Hillary’s email defense again.

Lynch’s almost-secret meeting with Clinton is another signal to the FBI. Unless, of course, she already knows the outcome.
