Osama Bin Laden On The Move?

From the Asia Times (hat tip to Weasel Zippers):
ISLAMABAD - After a prolonged lull, the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has launched a series of covert operations in the rugged Hindu Kush mountains of Pakistan and Afghanistan following strong tip-offs that al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has been criss-crossing the area in the past few weeks for high-profile meetings in militant redoubts.

[...]

Officials are said to be "stunned" by the visibility of Bin Laden's movements, and their frequency, in a matter of a few weeks in the outlawed terrain of Pakistan and Afghanistan, the most unprecedented reports about him since he evaded the US in the Tora Bora mountains in Afghanistan in 2001.

The development has fueled speculation in intelligence circles that al-Qaeda could be planning another major attack along the lines of the September 11, 2001, assault on New York and Washington, and the July 2007 foiled bomb attack in London.

However, extensive investigations by Asia Times Online, including exchanges within al-Qaeda's camps, point in another direction: given the nature of Bin Laden's meetings, this appears to be the beginning of a new era for a broader struggle in which al-Qaeda, through its Laskhar al-Zil (Shadow Army), will try to capitalize on the Arab revolts and the Palestinian struggle and also revitalize and redefine its role in Afghanistan....
More at the above link.

We shouldn't be surprised. See these two stories: Libyan rebel commander admits his fighters have al-Qaeda links and 'Al-Qaeda snatched missiles' in Libya.

Yesterday, Obama stated that the mission in Libya is succeeding. What is his definition of success? The reactivation of Osama bin Laden's worldwide jihad?

  2. So hang on a sec here. The SEE him, they KNOW his whereabouts, yet they won't KILL him???

Can anyone please explain that logic? Is he that convenient of an enemy???

  3. Steve,
The SEE him, they KNOW his whereabouts, yet they won't KILL him???

Mr. AOW's exact point when I told him about OBL being on the move.

My guess: Obama wants Osama captured.

  4. Check THIS out: "Brzezinski: How Jimmy Carter and I Started the Mujahideen."

According to the article, Brzezinski is one of Barack Obama’s leading foreign policy advisers.

Obama is Jimmy Peanut on steroids.

    Think Bill Clinton

    Ducky, huh?

AOW, I am glad to see these dictators in the ME and North Africa go but I can't help but think that there's always someone worse to take their place.

This may be a case of being better off with the devil we know than to let the countries become havens for terrorists.

The straw man has overtaken you in your comment.

I'm not stunned. Not even surprised. bin Laden has more confidence now that his freid and ally is President of the United States. He knows he's safe.

  9. Meanwhile, in the Uk, Sharia Law for Libya Protest shuts down Oxford Street, London:

Dressed in black and white, supporters of Sharia law chanted claims that Sharia law is the only option, not only for Libya, but for the West as well.

A spokesman for the demonstrators - who nationality is unknown - referred to the "changing tides of the world": for the demonstrators, events in North Africa are indicative of something more than the expulsion of dictators.

  10. "They SEE him, they KNOW his whereabouts, yet they won't KILL him???"

Pardon me for saying, but I see no where in either AOW's post or in the Asia Times story that indicates anyone (on our side) has seen him, or knows of his exact location. Did I miss something?

  11. OBL has been quiet for a long time now. I find it strange that he has been so quiet during the 'Arab Spring' revolutions. He must be pulling the strings in the background, I think. His silence is deafening.

  12. AOW: I'm emailing you something you have probably seen, but just in case you missed it. Interesting and relates to this article.

  14. Mark (of Left Field Perspectives),
The first cited article mentions "the visibility of Bin Laden's movements, and their frequency," which may imply that he's in somebody's sights.

  15. Mark (of A New Dark Age Is Dawning),
If OBL is indeed alive and active, I cannot imagine that he'll remain quiet during this Arab Spring.

And if he's not pulling the strings, as you mentioned, you can bet that his second or third in command is!

Frankly, I cannot imagine that the West isn't about to read the whirlwind of the worldwide jihad -- and that right fast now.

The world does seem to be spinning out of control on so many levels.

    Uh, yes.

    That is goooood!

Thins in the ME and North Africa are just getting warmed-up. It's going to be a long hot summer in my opinion.

  18. Of course with this report, he has been given fair warning to head back to the hills. I wonder who leaked this? Let me think... I am thinking..

  19. Success is whatever Lord Obama says it is, you impertinent blogger!

On the Osama thing, I think he's already dead...

  20. The world does seem to be spinning out of control on so many levels.

Yes, indeed! Change is taking place at breakneck speed. Our leaders are barely able to keep up, it seems. They are certainly not consistent. They talk a good line in democracy (for some countries), yet tolerate tyranny and absolutism for others. The word hypocrisy comes to mind.

  21. Nostradumbass whined:
"We should have let Qadaffi slaughter western Libya because the fringe right bed wetters are trembling from some hypothetical they found on a fringe web site."

Why of course, dippy. You sure weren't worried about Saddam when he was busy murdering, gassing and feeding his own people feet first through log shredders, by the tens of thousands.

I believe you were calling it "military adventurerism", no?

I guess I can't call you a hypocrite if you don't have any principles.

A little advice, if you can't avoid emptying your bladder all over this blog try putting on your Depends before you visit.

  22. We shouldn't be surprised. See these twbo stories: Libyan rebel commander admits his fighters have al-Qaeda links and 'Al-Qaeda snatched missiles' in Libya.

    ------------

Get it yet, Chuck? The ravings of the delusional right.

Meanwhile, we kneel down to service Saudi Arabia. We will certainly favor Likud in Egypt but what has happened in the M.E. is that young Arabs have learned they can stand up to the tyranny. They don't have to be in constant fear like an American right winger watching Glenn "Hot Chalk" Beck.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yeah, that's right Warren. We kind of screwed up in Iraq when we were backing Hussein because the right wingers were just scared wetting themselves over Iran.

So we created the Frankenstein monster and then Daddy Bush and Colon(sic) Powell left the Kurds hung out to dry when they let Hussein fly his attack helicopters.

Not a great record. You'd think even a right winger (Oh, look at the scary Muslims) could learn a little. Fact is, the Libyans aren't Jews or evangelicals so you don't much care if their butts get fried anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Like I said stupid; I can't call you a hypocrite if you don't have any principles.

Its clear you don't and that you don't have any interest in human suffering if it doesn't advance your leftist ideology or create a nice bit of propaganda.

BTW, how's your ECT coming along?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Duck,
A word of advice to you: Warren has admin privileges here at this blog. He can use those privileges in whatever manner he sees fit. Therefore, you need to quit hurling insults all over the place -- or face deletion. Your choice.

Frankly, I'm in no mood to tolerate your insults right.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Duck, you can be so incredibly boring.

Nonsense, nonsense, nonsense (insert some ridiculous comment about a right winger that you have given a cute name) nonsense, nonsense, nonsense (insert a bizarre and irrelevant attack on the right wing) nonsense, nonsense, nonsense.

My God you could just type a bunch of random letters and more often than not you would make more sense.

  27. Linked back to this post, AOW. It's remarkable how many born-again warmongers there are on the left when it's a Dem like Obombya who's dropping the ordnance and there's absolutely no national interest involved.

  28. amen to Bob's last comment AOW..good grief . have a great weekend..what's left of it!:)

  29. “We should have let Qadaffi slaughter western Libya …

We, Ducky? We? What have you ever done in the service of your country, beyond lying your ass off to pay the least amount of federal, state, and local taxes? It seems to me that until you actually do serve your country, you ought to shut the hell up because the simple fact is you have no bona fides supporting the collective “we.”

  30. Mustang,
Great comment! And spot on as well. Thank you.

I do tolerate the Duck's comments here as he does expose the true face of the Left, but this particular series of invectives is unacceptable. I rarely threaten him with deletion, but if he continues here with these rants (aka, as Warren said, emptying his bladder), he will discover that my threat to delete isn't an idle one. As I mentioned above, I'm in no mood for insulting nonsense right now as real life is bearing down on me at the moment.

Blog comments are for discussion, and Duck isn't discussing but rather hurling insults all over the place.

  31. Well Mustang, you have to admit, the irony of Nostradumbass trading in his dove.... er Duck, for a shiny new chicken hawk is good for a belly laugh.

  32. I really wonder what would obama do if some CIA operative makes a breathless call - got the scumbag in our sights, should we blow him to pieces or organize some sort of fair trial with the aclu backing osama naturally.

Would obama first ask the UN what to do?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Kahdafi or however you spell his name is a terrorist dictator thug. It would not bother me in the slightest if a Tomahawk missile found its way straight into this guys front porch.

The problem is not Khadafi the problem is Obama.

Despite Obama's frequent complaints about Bush's War rush to war.

Obama did this without consulting Congress and without speaking to us the American people. In the words of Biden this is an impeachable offense. In the words of Obama this is inexcusable.

Secondly Libya was no threat to the United States which if I recall folks like Ducky frequently complained Iraq was no threat to the US.

Third, the Military inteeligence guy just admitted yesterday that there are elements of Alquada in the ressistant so Ducky shut up about right wing bed wetters because the Admin is admitting the same thing leaked on the web. The bigger question is when did Obama know we were backing terrorists against terrorists.

Fourth this is all about oil. Read the friggin headlines oil facilities captured 20 million barrels a day contract signed blah blah blah....

Fifth and how are we funding this war? or does that question only matter in the Iraq/Bush matter?

Ducky you and your ilk are hypocritics.

and when the war started where was Obama...

    Oh yeah on vacation again.....
