Sarah Palin's Crosshairs (With Addendum)

I don't care what Jane Fonda has said, i.e., that Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, and the Tea Party Movement are to blame for yesterday's shootings in Tucson.

That map of crosshairs is going to be problematic now as Americans have gut reactions to Jared Loughner's murderous shooting spree in Tucson — never mind Palin's actual intentions with the map and never mind that, as far as we know at this point, Loughner was not a member of the Tea Party Movement.

Last spring, Congresswoman Giffords expressed concern about that map of crosshairs targeting certain Democrats for defeat in November 2010. The video of the congresswoman's comments is eerie now:

In my view, Palin's political career is now over, particularly a run for the White House.

Glenn Beck will suffer damage, too, as will the Tea Party Movement.

Conservatives, batten down the hatches. The onslaught on conservative dissent has already started and will increase:
Can we blame political rhetoric such as Sarah Palin's inflammatory 'Don't react, reload' for triggering the Safeway massacre?

It is not yet clear why a gunman, believed to be 22-year-old Jared Loughner, went on a terrifying rampage in Arizona yesterday, killing six people and wounding a further 12.

But whatever his reasons, the local sheriff - who is coordinating the investigation with the FBI - believes it is time for America to do some soul-searching.

'When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government,' Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik told a news conference.

'The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous.

'And, unfortunately, Arizona I think has become sort of the capital. We have become the Mecca for prejudice and bigotry.'

He added: 'That may be free speech. But it's not without consequence.'
That Jared Loughner was a lefty loon, one with prior run-ins with the law, is news that the mainstream media will try to avoid.

Addendum: Over at his blog, GM Roper makes the following point in a comment to me:
[T]he “cross hairs” on Palin’s map are typical “surveyors” marks used in their survey maps. Different from the “Targets” used by the DNC.

Even as the discussion of yesterday's shootings in Tucson continues, let us remember Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her family in our prayers:

  2. There are a lot more factors to this. I posted something on this last night, after the adrenaline had been elevated during the Colts game last night and couldn't sleep.

I will be updating periodically, as there are more factors to be discovered and more messages to be communicated. But we need to stay focused and prove that we or our conservative belief system has nothing to do with this. I smell a rat here and the target is us, who believe in truth.

I am not sold on Palin anyway, but for progressive hacks to hijack this as some kind of political issue is low, cheap, underhanded, but yet, it is to be expected.(Sheriffs on the case included.)

Anyway, I rarely plug my blog on others.... but please read my ongoing post from early early this morning. I have never cared about hits on my site, but I feel there is a message we must work hard to get out there and we cannot allow one disturbed psychotic puke to derail a nation.

  3. Like you all, the moment I saw the broadcast I knew the Democrat machine would twist this story intoa political commentary. Despite the fact in 2010, we had a peaceful election without the Black Panthers blocking voting places and the result was an landslide victory against the Democrat agenda.

This troubled young man needed and needs help. He does not in any represent the means of over throwing this tryanical regime.

Please join me in praying for her recovery and for strength to the families that lost love ones.

I do think that Loughner may well have been a schizophrenic.

We all have to shut up because there are unbalanced people among us?

Who needs to control their rhetoric? rightwingers, or democrats who talk about punishing enemies?

No, let's keep the focus where it belongs, on criminals and criminal behavior. This was not caused by Palin or the tea parties. Unfortunately, that is now how the liberal hallelujah choir in the press will spin it.

-they are trying to use this for political gain when it was one of them, that never seems to work out well

As far as the crosshairs, this is a stupid thing for Palin to do but it is a problem only because the media is making it one. She is not the only person, right or left, to use this terminology or type of map but she is the only one targeted by the media for it.

While I think she was stupid to do it, I refuse to criticize her until the criticism is spread around to all it belongs to.

  17. Please check out this post by Tammy Swofford. Excerpt (emphasis mine):

...In press conferences following the event mention was made repeatedly of the manner in which media and political vitriole can affect unstable personalities. This is undoubtedly true. But it is also true that for such individuals the simple act of another person brushing their teeth or burping too loudly can ignite the spark. Having done lock-down psychiatric nursing I have seen the extremes of human behavior. The population runs the course from severe neurosis to psychosis.

    [...]

...The few who have surpassed the boundaries of decency usually end up politically marginalized by the rest of us.

What happened in Arizona was the act of a selfish bastard, an enraged cretin...

It is time as human beings that we take our heads out of the sand. We are all intellignet people, not ostriches.

The republicans "Sarah Palin" is a wrecking ball. Every place she goes, every thing she says has a ripple effect and it is always bad. Always.

People who are psychotic because of thought disorders can take anything, anything, and twist into something it is not within the realm of their delusional thought processes. Throughout history, we can review that perpetrators who fit into this category have taken a wide range of things and used them as rationales for their crimes. John Hinckley comes to mind, when he used the movie Taxi Driver as the driving force in shooting spree that wounded Reagan.

You are correct from a concrete point of view that there are things that are indirectly responsible for things like this. But if we are not careful we will have to watch every last little cliche we use, movies will need to stop being made, etc.

that is not the kind of world I want to live in. Do you?

    ReplyDelete
  27. I must agree with Silverfiddle, to blame one word or one symbol on a map for some crazy going our and killing 6 people including a 9 year old child is in itself a kind of crazy.

Gun owners and those who believe in the right to own guns often use gun related words, language, that has nothing to do with actually killing, and certainly not with killing a human being. "Lock and load", for example simply means "be prepared", etc.

People on both sides of the political range "target" others for negative articles, to display them in a bad light, in order to win elections. All of them certainly don't mean "kill" by using the term target.

And as GM rightly points out, these were not gun targets, cross-hairs, these were surveyor make symbols.

The bottom line is, it matters not whether he leaned left or right or was split down the middle with his crazy mixed up mind, he was evil, he committed numerous crimes, killed 6 people, injured as many as 19, several still in the hospital, and he needs to be prosecuted and sentenced to DEATH.

    Just my opinion.

Great line up AOW, thanks for all you do.

  28. We must once more ask why the left imposes a double standard. In Arizona, the campaign of Harry Mitchell (D) placed J. D. Hayworth (R) in the crosshairs of a rifle. I don’t have the patience for this childish tit for tat.

Our founding fathers protected free speech. The Supreme Court of the United States has always protected free speech, particularly the speech we find offensive. Who now suggests that deputies take into custody anyone whose speech is offensive, and to whom? Shall we arrest anyone on the left who wishes a member of Congress and all his family comes down with the Aids virus? Shall we arrest everyone at KOS, or the Huffington Post, or shall we only arrest conservatives who get carried away with themselves?

If we are looking to place blame for Loughner, why not begin with Loughner himself? He’s a nut case. He is also the product of lousy parenting, the product of the American public education fiasco, and he allowed himself brainwashed by Karl Marx and Adolf Hitler. Look at it this way: we should allow Palin to make an ass of herself. We should allow Clarence Dupnik to make an ass of himself, too. And hopefully, no one with any brains will elect either one of these idiots to public office. But to suggest that political discourse caused Loughner to shoot 19 people is the least intelligent argument I have ever heard.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Right, wrong or indifferent we can expect this to come back on us. The libs are wasting no time in tarring all conservatives with this brush.

Things certainly have changed in this nation. When JFK got shot there was no partisan outcry such as we're now seeing.

Now everybody that can get into the "blame game" is firing away.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that the crosshairs graphics promoted hate.

But I did think last spring that another graphic should have been used. The Merry Widow (no longer blogging) mentioned to me on the phone last night, "Why not use stop signs?"

From what I've been able to glean today, Loughner wasn't politically motivated. I remain more and more convinced that he is schizo or the equivalent thereof. In fact, he puts me in mind of the fellow who shot up Capitol Hill some years ago, the fellow fixated on something he called "the ruby red satellite." He was schizo and off his meds.

I wonder what Loughner's family has to say? Apparently, he was still living at home with his parents. Have they come forward yet?

  31. Mustang,
The double standard is the Left's favorite meme.

Our founding fathers protected free speech. The Supreme Court of the United States has always protected free speech, particularly the speech we find offensive.

    Yes, indeed.

And I'm certainly not suggesting that Palin shouldn't have been ALLOWED to use those graphics. But I do think that we on the Right must be ever aware of how the Left is going to spin something, particularly if "the bad thing" happens.

Perhaps the standard we need to use is one of discretion.

If we are looking to place blame for Loughner, why not begin with Loughner himself? He’s a nut case. He is also the product of lousy parenting, the product of the American public education fiasco, and he allowed himself brainwashed by Karl Marx and Adolf Hitler.

Here's the problem now: the mainstream media have to be aware of most of the confirmed facts about Loughner. We do live in the Information Age, the Digital Age, after all. And, still, the media area are trying to pin guilt on someone other than Loughner.

  39. Leftists are accomplished opportunists and a lot of them are what they used to call neurotics. There is also a large percentage of them that appear profoundly mentally ill and need treatment.

In Freudian Psychology, projection is a psychological mechanism where someone "projects" their own undesirable desires, thoughts and motivations onto someone else and perceive them in another person or group. Projection is related to denial or can be considered the third stage of denial. The first two are the denial of reality and the minimalization or rationalization of unpleasant facts.

In other words, for at least the last 16 years, leftists have been demonizing Conservatives and Republicans with over the top accusations while at the same time promoting violence against us and trying to shut down our free speech. I don't see them stopping any time soon!

  40. Before the smoke had cleared, the left, libbers, the morons at Daily Kos and the moonbats at the DUmp, Democratic Underground, were blaming the TEA Party, Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Ted Nugent, The N.R.A. and everyone on the Conservative right, and saying that they were the ones responsible for Gabrielle Giffords being shot.

Well, of course it was the TEA Party and 2nd Amendment supporters that caused this. We ALL know, the TEA Party movement is over-run with 22 and 23 year old anarchists that list The Communist Manifesto and Mein Kampf on their preferred reading list. And we ALL know how much influence the TEA Party and Glenn Beck have over the youth of America. Right?

The truth about Jared Loughner, and his apparent far left liberalism, his desire to be an anarchist and his overall dissatisfaction with America has begun to come out, and nowhere is there a hint of him being a TEA Party member, a Beck fan, a Palin supporter or any of the utter nonsense being spewed by the loons of the left.

I am really beginning to hate those people and their incessant absurdities. What happened to the Congresswoman was a tragedy carried out by a nutcase. Anyone who views Mein Kampf and the Communist Manifesto as a favorite read is a head case in my opinion. Further, my assertions are proven by the subject's own videos.

The left cares nothing for the gunshot victims. They only care about making political hay and silencing their opposition any way that they can and for that they are dangerous to a free society in general and for America in particular.

Does she hold a political office? NO

Does she run a major company? No ok sort of but its more like entertainment.

IS she well funded? Ok I guess but only if the Tea Party throws in the cash. She doesnt have friends like Soros, Resco, a grandma who ran a major bank in Hawaii, and a list of other shady characters in her closest.

I thought democrats were the party of the little guy, the party of women and minorities?

Would I vote for her for President yes but then again, I would vote for a plate glass window....as least the glass would be transparent.....

On a more serious note, most people I talk to are conservatives and they complain that she did not finish her term as Governor, they compalin that she did not interview well, and they complain that many times she comes off like a teenager competing for class president.

Palin supporters dont get me wrong, she is real genuine, fighter, smarter than any of the candidates in the last round.

So yes many of us are waiting to see her shine.

Predicting her demise now is ridiculous, it is a long campaign.

  58. In my opinion, the mainstream media is just as much to blame for this as anyone. Everytime there is a disagreement about anything along party lines, the media inflates, accuses, agitates, creates imaginary enemies, uses imflammatory language, and in general, stirs up vitriol against Conservatives. The American media, FOX included, but to a lesser degree, sets the nations mood, by selectively editing stories and statements in order to influence the listener into believing whatever the media want them to believe.

Some of the more easily manipulated "borderline personalities" take this mis-information and decide to take the law into their own hands, so to speak.

  59. AOW - Michelle Malkin has a great article about the double standard being used in this story - The progressive “climate of hate:” An illustrated primer, 2000-2010.

The shooter is to blame. He is responsible for his actions. He has had a grievance against this congresswoman since 2007.

The ruch to blame Palin or others - even before the identity of the shooter was known - is despicable.

Would the left's response be any different if Palin had used smiley faces to "target" opponents to defeat?

  60. Remember when Major Hassan went on his shooting spree at Fort Hood? And the Christmas bomber roasted his privates? El Presidente was quick to go on national TV and say "Don't rush to judgment and blame Islam!" Remember when the Times Square bomber was apprehended, Mayor Bloomberg jumped up on TV and said "Don't rush to judgment about Islam!" The Left made excuse after lame excuse for the cold, calculating actions of these individuals, even though they clearly acted on their belief in Jihad. But they were Muslims and they are a protected class to the Left.

Here we have a lone individual, with mental problems, described by friends as a "left-wing pothead", an adherent of the occult, and whose favorite books are Mein Kampf and the Communist Manifesto, Nothing to do with conservatism whatsoever. Yet the lamestream media and lefty Dems are pouncing and blaming conservatives without hesitation, advocating new controls and laws, thereby declaring openly they are ENEMIES OF FREE SPEECH.

Well, if anyone failed or helped this boy along in his dastardly deeds, IT WAS THE AMERICAN LEFT! THEY ARE THE ONES WHO HAVE MADE IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO INSTITUTIONALIZE PEOPLE LIKE LOUGHNER BECAUSE OF HIS 'CIVIL RIGHTS' THEY PROVIDED THE MATERIALS HE READ AND CONSUMED IN HIS LIFE.

The Left and its Democrat adherents are despicable and disrespectful of the victims and their families for their duplicitous behavior (Oh, the number of times I've heard national Libs openly wish for evil on their opponents) and using tragedy for their political gain. And there are more than a few linguini spined Republicans going along with these canards.

Hidden within a camouflage tent behind Jared Lee Loughner's home sits an alarming altar with a skull sitting atop a pot filled with shriveled oranges.

A row of ceremonial candles and a bag of potting soil lay nearby, photos reveal.

Experts on Sunday said the elements are featured in the ceremonies of a number of occult groups.

  63. Sorry..I am fed up with leftards and thier hypocrisy..this vitriol is all madness~!

  64. You can be sure that none of the facts that are inconvenient to the left will make it out into the mainstream. Out here in Australia it's tut-tutting and tisk-tisking over the entire affair. Americas gun culture and too many rights are being blamed by pretty much all the stupid sheep.

Facts and reason play no part in any of this, it's smearing and point-scoring all the way.

  65. Well, it didn't take the LEFT long to jump on THIS old band wagon again...

  66. I pray she has a speedy recovery.

As for Palin and her "Tea Party," I truly wish they would just go away. The Republicans do not have a chance with their antics - period.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Are they to blame? No, I don't believe you can say that.

Are the heavily responsible for a very charged, irrational atmosphere that can provide some fuel for this kind of event. Yes.

Now there is going to be a lot of reaction, most of it unproductive but it sure would be worth while for Little Miss Reload and Glenn Beck and some others to tone it down. Even better if the right told Palin to tone down the cheap rhetoric.

  68. I hope that all here will take a look at Beamish's post, specifically, the second map he has in that post.

Sometimes a picture really does say it all!

I've read the article and do recommend it to all interested in the topic at hand.

  70. BTW, sorry for my not participating much in the discussion here today. Mr. AOW had a bit of a mishap, but all is well now.

  72. people will use ANY excuse to blame someone else or fling mud at an innocent party.

hopefully, people with acuall commen sense will see through this very pathetic sharade.

  73. I guess we could keep feeding the starved for attention left but they are not worth it!

    AOW,
I see the left show their ass a lot here.

They are full of hate. Nothing new!

  74. Nostradumbass, I constantly call attention to your cheap rhetoric but I don't want you to tone it down. Its such a fine example of idiocy and insanity that many people actually believe you're a Moby. I'd think so to if you hadn't been spouting stupid crap for years!

BTW, is it about time for your semiannual ECT therapy or have you been skipping the Thorazine again?

  75. AOW,
Not like the left loons losing ground here or anything, I hope Mr. is gaining and doing better and that the new purchase will work out well.

Prayers are with you and hubby.

As for the victims I am sad. No one is to blame but this asshole that decided to open fire!

May he get the death penalty!

Oh wait the left will try to protect him and hold candle vigils...

Talk about routing for the wrong team!

  77. Dcat,
Mr. AOW fell yesterday (more on that in a post somewhere down the line) and ended up on the ground outside in the freezing cold. We had to wait over 30 minutes for help to arrive.

    No injury, thank the Lord.

Earlier in the day, I walloped my forehead on the car door. Talk about a miserable headache and soreness! I do have a faint bruise, but no signs of concussion.

  78. Alex,
I don't care what Hanoi Jane says. But the older leftistas still love her. Sheesh.

In my opinion, the mainstream media is just as much to blame for this as anyone. Everytime there is a disagreement about anything along party lines, the media inflates, accuses, agitates, creates imaginary enemies, uses imflammatory language, and in general, stirs up vitriol against Conservatives.

    Yes.

Last night, Bill O'Reilly, whom I rarely watch, did a pretty good job of exposing how hypocritical the Left is, particularly MSNBC.

The mainstream media shills for the left.

  80. Take care AOW. I'm thinking about you.

I see the post above. ;)

The left loons were sure quiet at work yesterday!

No mention on what happened on Saturday and I didn't offer.

Soon as someone does they will get blasted with: Gee maybe if we all turned to islam and gave up our Western ways the asswipe wouldn't have shot up the base in Texas or the other in Seattle killing a woman! Yeah right the left media did this by not mentioning the ass hats weren't islamic!

    The left have lost!

I don't plan on changing just because some jerk can't seem to function in a normal mode in society!

  81. Hey Ducky

"Even better if the right told Palin to tone down the cheap rhetoric."

Who are you talking about? The "right" is not a person and it is not funded by one person like the left is funded by George Soros. The "right" is not based on a cult personality adoration like the mindless minions who voted for a guy with no experience to manage a whole country.

If by the "right" you mean Republicans. The Republican Party isnt exactly cheering for her. Remeber she exposed a Republican back in Alaska and now she does not hold and elected office.

If by the "right" you mean the Tea Party Movement, the Movement is more about a set of sound principles not a slate of candidates.

Maybe on the left you guys have people that tell people what to think and say but over here on the right there is this thing called Freedom. Come on over and try it any time.
