Musical Interlude & Valentine's Day: First Dance

(For politics, please scroll down)

I chose this song for the first dance at our wedding on August 28, 2021. Music didn't get played that day, however, because the man with the audio material had a caregiving crisis of his own. Still, Warren and I consider "Lay Down Beside Me" as our first-dance song.  And this song is perfect for Valentine's Day 2022.

The lyrics for "Lay Down Beside Me" are so personal for Warren and me! Those of you who know our situations will understand the personal meaning without further explanation:

Happy Valentine's Day!

    1. It's a "I screwed up and I want you back" kind of love song, but that's the bulk of most love songs, isn't it?

  3. I only know about your side of the story, AOW, and that Warren lost his wife several years ago. I was deeply touched by the lyrics for reasons you might well imagine. Have a blessed lover's day in celebration.

    1. Baysider,
Warren, too, did long-term caregiving of his spouse. Longer than I did, in fact. And you know what it's like to do long-term caregiving. People who haven't been there can't really understand what caregivers go through.

From "Lay Down Beside Me": "Finding my way wasn't easy to do....And it's been worth every mile....Love me and hide me/
Kiss all the hurtin of this world away"

700 miles is the distance between when I lived in Virginia and where Warren lives in Indiana.

And heaven knows that both of us endured so much hurting before we found each other!

Sometimes, I have to pinch myself to believe that both of us have found a new life -- a new life together.

    2. God bless you both. I wish all of us could have such a happy ending, but for most it does not work like that. You are one of the lucky ones. Even when Dave was alive you always seemed to be blessed and I was happy for that. Most of us just have to really muddle through without our happy ending. That is "real life" for the rest of us. Enjoy your time and let the past go. God blessed you more than the rest.

    3. Thank you, Elizabeth. Dave and I made the best of the situation. And for a long time, he did improve. He was even able to go to coin shows and certain social events alone -- via MetroAccess. He was pronounced compos mentis 1.5 years post-stroke.

Both Warren and know that we are especially blest to have found each other!

    4. I know that and am so happy about it for you both. Life is short so we must take all the love and happiness we can and just give gratitude and I know you both do. God's blessings to you two!

  4. I have a new life and a new love.
What else can I say except to my Love.
    I love you my sweetheart!

    1. Warren,
My love, this new life we have is such a miracle!

Remember: there wasn't a dry eye at the altar when we took our vows. Even the minister teared up! So did The Beak, your best man. There were plenty of tears in the audience as well. Everyone there was moved because they knew about our miracle.

I love you! I can't say it often enough.

  5. I found the 'helmet wax gift', especially touching. :)
