2016 Election Results -- Your Take?

Silverfiddle Rant!

The comment thread on Asylum got way off track, so let's talk about the midterm election results.

Franco Aragosta posted this from Henry Olsen at American Greatness,

"Arizona’s Senate race was perhaps the most surprising, and disturbing, midterm result for Republicans and Trump fans. Many struggle to understand how Barry Goldwater’s home state will send a former pink tutu-wearing antiwar activist to Washington. …"
It's not that hard to understand. Barry Goldwater's senate career ended three decades ago. A few decades before that, Ronald Reagan was governor of a Republican California. This is a new millennium.  Filled with millennials.

The GOP got plastered on November 6th.  The House loss was deep and wide, and the Senate result was pathetic given the lopsided amount of seats the Democrats had to defend.

What does this mean?

People aren't as disgusted with the screaming leftwing mobs as conservatives hoped they were.

90% Negative press coverage takes its toll

The GOP has no message.  Ask yourself: When the Democrat Congress wants Medicare for All, Free College, and other big ticket item goodies, how can Republicans argue for fiscal discipline and smaller government when they abandoned those cheap props decades ago?

Colorado is down the blue toilet, and Arizona is right behind it.  Also, write off Florida. They just enfranchised 1.7 million ex-cons, and we all know who they will vote for.

What is your take on the midterm election results?

Please try to keep it clean, and if your comment disappears, it probably means you used potty language or you were way off topic.

  1. Eh, I heard somewhere that it was a “tremendous success” for the GOP.........

I concur completely with you, that the Republican Party hasn’t stood for limited government for decades.

    3. "At least he snot Hillary" is the GOP platform.

Now that the House is safely not in GOP hands, I'm sure the pro-life hymnals will reopen. Planned Parenthood will still receive millions of dollars, but some Republicans will be emboldened to vote against it knowing their votes are meaningless.

The GOP will need to catch lightning in a bottle. A celebrity with instant name recognition, who starts his day with prayer, is hard on criminals, and has plenty of personality flaws for the (de)base(d) to pretend do not matter.

America needs President Dog the Bounty Hunter.

  2. One aspect of the election that's being overlooked is the flip in state governorships and state houses. At least nine governorships flipped Democrat and the count is virtually equal.

There is very little for the Repubs to celebrate. Where Dems lost it was in razor thin elections. I will concede Florida and Georgia but the margin was next to nothing. I'll concede Mia Love but the conservative darling had the fight of her life in Utah of all places.

The Orange Man for all his bluster about the invading horde got his butt whomped.

Progressives of all parties are hell-bent on redecorating the continent and turning it into a modern day Tower of Babel.

The US is becoming an international zone everybody in the world has a right to, and I see no way to heal the growing divide. Apologies for the pessimism, but that's the way I see it.

And once it does, there will be a Big-Government Neo-Liberal Democrat Party (corporatists and Never Trumpers) vs Small-Government Republican Radical Progressives (Trumpers and Anarchists).

    1. The voters certainly deserved Trump in 2016. Now the process of correcting that huge mistake is now in motion. America is basically a decent country that let itself be lead astray by a blithering orange fool.

Now, as you said Mustang, the voters deserve who they vote for. And they voted their reaction to Trump. It's as simple as that.

If democrats play it smart 2020 will complete the correction started I'm 2016. When that happens it will no doubt feel like a Blue Tsunami has swept the country.

  6. Sorry, but I always have been, –– and am determined to remain –– an ardent ANTI-PESSIMIST.

Yes our thinking has largely been formulated by so-called "Progressives" most of whom are arrogantly proud atheists, determined to undermine and eradicate the influence of Christianity from Western Culture for over a hundred years. And yes those "Pogressives" are de facto "Cultural Marxists." The harm these pernicious influences have done to the Vision of our Founding Fathers is, indeed, incalculable.

All that should be considered a given by anyone capable of Critical-Analytical Thinking –– and by that I do NOT mean cultivating an ability to compile and collate STATISTICS. Instead I mean observation based on good Common Sense, and an education supporting sound moral principles cultivating empathy as the primary basis for interpreting knowledge.

Instead, we've been first seduced –– then bullied –– into substituting Marxian cant and Rhetoric for Biblical Knowledge, Spiritual Awareness, and reverential Respect for our Founding Principles as laid out in The Declaration of Independence, and the U.S. Constitution, ratfied in 1789.

The effect Marxian-Progressive-Statist policies have had on human behavior, values, goals and aspirations has been substantial, and almost wholly pernicious. We have changed dramatically over the past century –– and NOT for the better.

While we have not been severely damaged, we are not yet "conquered" thank God. We have, however, been pu at a supreme disadvantage not so much by outside forces, invading armies, dread disease, or phsyical sabotage, but by a militant determination on the part of Intellectual Aggressors to erode, corrode, dissipate, and ultimately to eradicate the tenets, precepts, convictions, ideals, pleasant traditions, and even the hopes that made it possible for us to advance as rapidly and successfully as we once did against what-appeared-to-be insuperable odds.

The ANTIDTE to this is certainly not to be found in either CYNICISM or PESSIMISM.

Our country was not FOUNDED, neither was it BUILT on NEGATIVE THINKING. Instead it develope through Faith, Courage, and unwavering Determination. The greatest of those was FAITH.

    1. The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.

One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple. For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.

And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the Lord.

Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me. When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek.

Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation. When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.

Teach me thy way, O Lord, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies. Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty. I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.

    3. God IS Truth. Truth IS God, and God IS All-In-All. Therefore, it stands to reason that Falsehood no matter how seductively packaged or powerful it may seem eventually MUST fail, and Truth, which IS eternal, MUST ultimately prevail.

It may take many more thousands of years for that to happen, but it doesn't matter in the Great Scheme. God's Time is something we are not equpped o comprehend.

A thousand ages in Thy sight
      Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
      Before the rising sun.

~ O God, Our Help In Ags Past, Isaac Watts

I believe that whether we like it or not, we ARE evolving toward Perfection, which to me means Perfect Unity with Almighty God –– a state of blessedness..

It's ungodly to worry, to give way to anger and to rail against Fate, to question our circumstances, and to think only of our pathetic little selves and how we and our loved one smight be affected by each passing crisis.

Our only job as Christians is to do the very best we can at all times to be decent, kind, fair, generous, respectful, loyal, and as helpful as we can be to our neighbors –– REGARDLESS of whatever maelstrom my be swirling 'round about us threatening to suck us down into perdition at any given moment.

O rest in the Lord; wait patiently for Him,
And He shall give thee thy hearts' desires.
Commit thy way unto Him, and trust in Him
And fret not thyself, because of evildoers ...

~ contralto aria from St. Paul, an oratorio by Felix Mendelssohn

Either we trust in God, or we don't. It may be natural to dob, but ultimately we must decide how best to live our lives. Either we exercise our faith, or we reject, and consequently revile, it. I can't see room for any middle ground.

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.

He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

      ~ Pslam 121 - KJV

I hasten to add that "Israel" does not mean that tiny sliver of hotly contested land on the Mediterranean in this context. "Israel" represents a spiritual state of elevated consciousness, of blessedness, of perfect trust in the wisdom and ultimate benevolence of Almighty God –– a place where at last we may truly be at one with the Lord. What few can grasp today in this boorish, militantly secular age is that we can live "in Israel," even if we're exeriencing barbarous treatment while awaiting execution at a prison camp.

  9. My two cents: we spend too much time vilifying one politician or another. Rather than beating Trump over the head day after day after day, it doesn’t really matter whether you like him or not. He’s the president. Internalize that. And rather than libeling him, take a look at what he’s doing for the Country. That, after all, should be our primary concern. Now, if we disagree about those things, fine ... let’s talk about those things but leave Trump the man alone. There is a reason that I think this sort of comportment is out of control. Can you even imagine a sitting US senator suggesting that ICE is a corollary to the KKK? Good grief ... does the Senator Harris not know that the KKK (the black or brown shirts) was the strong arm of her own party ... and still is? I think we are better than this, but my optimism diminishes more every single day.

I do agree with most pundits who claim that the GOP made a big mistake not talking about health care. They should have. And pointed out that ACA is what the Democrats passed in the dead of night and signed into law the next day. Republicans should have made sure everyone remembers who owns ACA; its 140% increases in some areas of the country, and the doubling of deductibles. My theory is that the Democrats knew damn well that the ACA would be a wash, and that when it fell flat on its face, it would lead Democrats to a single-payer health care and THAT my friends would be the end of the best health care system in the world.

Start counting your blessings. Thanksgiving is upon us, and I see it as a time for meditation and prayerful reflection over all the good things for which we would do well to express gratitude.

I'll paraphrase what Thoreau said when I quoted him above: The beauties of the world are every bit as lovely when seen through the windows of a poorhouse, as they are from the windows of a rich man's abode.

    The moon belongs to everyone
Best things in life are free
    Stars belong to everyone
They're put there for you and for me

    The flowers in spring
    The robin that sing
    The sunbeams that shine
    They're yours they're mine

And love can come to everyone
The best things in life are free

    Love can come to everyone
Best things in life they're free
    All of the good things
Every one of the better things

The best, best things in life
    They're free.

  12. Lots of Democrats, in the media, on social media, and lots of other places have been saying just wait till 2020. Kind of like in major league baseball, the old saying used to be "wait till next year", after a team lost the world series.

Well, the Democrats can huff and puff, and produce all kinds of Porn Stars, Tax Records, “Collusion” theories all they want about Trump's approval rate, or any of his various so called “scandals” or whatever.. But the bottom line for Democrats in the next presidential election, it’s a big problem for them. That is that THEY DON'T HAVE A CANDIDATE.

To remind you of just a sampling of who may be in the running to become the Democratic nominee, they have quite a lot to choose from, lets see now, there’s Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, . Cory “Spartacus” Booker, Kamala Harris Mayor Michael Bloomberg and lets not forget Hillary Clinton! .Or maybe Crazy Eyes Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez!
What about Anthony “Carlos Danger” Weiner? He's got plenty of time to think up a good strategy for a campaign. Ive even head rumors that Muller is thinking of running!
Most Democrats said that they would prefer Uncle Joe Biden would be their preferred nominee. Old Bernie Sanders, who ran in the Democratic presidential primary in 2016, who came in second Other candidates attracted even less support, with Kookie Cory Booker coming in last at a mear 3%.

In a new poll, that surveyed 680 Registered voters who identified themselves as either Democrats or Independents, found that "none of the above" was the most popular choice among potential 2020 challengers to President Trump.

And in a wide contrast there was approximately a 90% approval rate from Republicans for President Trump, in there should be any Republican primary, with Republicans sitting on the sidelines watching the Democrats beating each other to nasty pulps in primary debates, while the Republicans world be taking notes. That is, if the Democrats come up with anybody to actually run in those primaries. It should produce lots of fun and laughs

  16. After losing what should have been a pretty winnable election, it would make sense for Hillary Clinton to sit down, with someone that has a bit bore brains in their head than she does. and assess, or evaluate what happened and why she lost. Instead of running allover the world blaming everyone and everything but the kitchen sink! It would be useful information for anybody that wants to run again, especially if she really wants to challenge Donald Trump in 2020. However, that kind of self-reflection would be grounds for accepting responsibility for something and Hillary Clinton does not do that.

Instead, Hillary chose to blame, her party, the White Women in America, James Comey, the DNC, the Russians, the Jews, the Catholics, the Mormons, Rush Limbaugh, and even Eleanor Roosevelt for her loss
