Election Day 2018

As my father used to say: "You can never predict the outcome of an election. And you can never tell how a jury might decide."

And remember...

The same goes for those who vote 3rd party: they elect Democrats.

  2. This election night will be like every other in the Silverfiddle house: Wife downstairs encamped in front of the TV alternately cheering and booing the unfolding election coverage like a South American soccer match, and me holed-up in the back room with my guitar and a bottle of whiskey.

    God bless America, please...

    3. I probably am, but I take considerable pains both to deny and to hide it –– even –– or, perhaps, espcially from myself.

I believe that in order to have faith, we must ACT as IF we already HAD it.

The hardbitten cynics –– of which I do not count you a member –– are so steeped in mockery, disdain, derision, and rejection they would invariably denigrate my position a "hypocrisy," which keeps THEM prisoners of their own misery.

Tha is THEIR problem, not mine, thank God.

  3. As has often been said, "We are cursed to live in interestng times."

As an article of my Christian faith, I try to maintain an attiude of cautious optimism. It MAY be possible the election will turn in "OUR" favor.

After all, look what happened just two short years ago: Mr. Trump WON a DECISIVE victory, even though the POLLS had told us for WEEKS that Hillaturd had a NINETY-EIGHT PERCENT chance of winning, and winning BIG.

And a Har Dee Har Har to THAT, eh? It didn't turn out very well for Her Heinous, did it? She and all her scurrilous band of lame0brained supporters have been squealing like a barnyard full of stuck pigs ever since, haven't they?

From the tremendous positive response our our frankly marvellous president keeps getting during his marathon run of seemingly endless rallies crisscrossing the nation, the majority of rank and file working Americans just LOVE Donald Trump.

It's only the vain, conceited, deluded pseudo-intellectual snobs in the ENEMEDIA, the decidedly MARXIAN PROFESSORIAT, the BOORISH, OUT-OF-TOUCH, frankly STUPID VULGARIANS that run HOLLYWOOD, the dour, self-righteous, captious dullards who are always eager to condmn just-about EVERYONE who stands up to be counted, and the monstrously greedy, godless globalist-internationalist OLIGARCHS who fancy themselves as Masters of the Universe and quite open strive to ENSLAVE the entire WORLD who DON'T like President Trump.

They are a distinct– but-disproprotionately powerful MINORITY who just happen to control about 85% of the world's wealth.

Once "The People" en masse become fully aware of the way this cabal of greedy hubristic bastards has taken them for a ride since the 1930's at least, we may see an uprising that could make the excesses of the French Revolution seem like a Sunday School Picnic by comparison.

Meanwhile, I'm gong to hope for the best possible result, and pray to all to be able accept whatever comes with good grace.

A stale deflection. When neither major party can get a majority of their own registered voters to the polls, the seek blame elsewhere.

As has been shown in previous Virginia elections that you're familiar with AOW, Libertarians have pulled potential Republican and Democrat voters...and don't you like it when the Green Party gets votes?

This election cycle has certainly shown us a lot about the American electorate.....not much of which is laudatory.

President Donald Trump is the biggest bomb I've ever thrown. Blew out every window in DC.

My libertarian votes all added up didn't amount to a mouse fart.

    2. Sure, but we're intellectually worse off with the collateral damage. Your 'bomb' has lowered the bar for Presidential gravitas and honesty so much, that the Left has literally nothing to worry about on this front.....for generations to come.

And my vote is weighted more than your vote for a Republican. The Libertarian candidate won't win with the ballot I just cast....but it will have a more reaching effect on automatic ballot access next election cycle....among other roadblocks both major parties throw in the way of any alternative.

    5. A Democrat got elected every damn time.

Did your vote equate to the loss of the Republican?

Every electoral cycle, non-"major parties" parties are required to acquire petition signatures to qualify for ballot access, unless they've reached an certain vote count in the previous. In Virginia, this is per Code of Virginia subsection 24.2-101.

    6. CI,
Did your vote equate to the loss of the Republican?

My vote alone? Of course not.

But I know many who voted the same way. I believe that voting bloc ended up putting a Dem into office. Every time.

And I can't imagine that any who voted 3rd Party would have otherwise voted for a Dem, while I believe that all who voted for 3rd Party would have otherwise voted for the GOP candidate.

As for ballot access, yes, it's been a major problem for almost as long as I can remember. But do we even now have a viable 3rd Party candidate for any seat anywhere?

    7. Nostalgic and retro: Remember the strategy that had people voting for George Wallace with the idea of throwing the Presidential election into the House of Representatives?

    8. And I can't imagine that any who voted 3rd Party would have otherwise voted for a Dem....

That certainly discounts the Green and Constitution Party, to name a few. Exit polling supports your assertion on "third party voters" [Libertarians?] - in some cases....and refutes it in others.

It is a real shame about Dave Brat. I'm not sure what happened in that district, but I've heard there was Democratic Party gerrymandering. Remember, we have had a Dem governor here in the Old Dominion for quite a few terms in a row.

    by Joseph Curl

President Trump never looks a gift horse in the mouth (forget about what the heck a "gift horse" is or why anyone would look it in the mouth). The Republicans lost control of the House on Election Day, not in a "blue wave" but in a solid defeat, nonetheless. So with Democrats set to take the reins in January 2019, Trump wants to give them a hand in governing. "In all fairness, Nancy Pelosi deserves to be chosen Speaker of the House by the Democrats. If they give her a hard time, perhaps we will add some Republican votes. She ...

  14. Trump’s Republicans Beat Historical Average for Midterm Elections

    Breitbart MidTerm Election,

    by Joel B. Pollak

Republicans were disappointed to lose the House of Representatives to Democrats on Tuesday. But they gained several seats in the Senate. Overall the GOP out-performed the historical average for the president’s party. As a recent analysis of historical trends in midterm elections noted: “Over the past 28 midterm elections since 1906, the president’s party lost about 30 House seats and 4 Senate seats on average.” President Donald Trump’s Republican Party was projected to lose between 25 and 35 seats as of 1:00 a.m. EST on Wednesday — right around the historical average. Moreover, Trump and the GOP were projected to ...

  18. Trump: GOP ‘Defied History’ and Expectations Despite Fundraising, Media, and Retirements

    Breitbart Video,

During a press conference on Wednesday, President Trump stated Republicans “defied history” in the Senate and beat expectations in the House despite disadvantages in fundraising, media coverage, and retirements in the House. Trump said, “[L]ast night, the Republican Party defied history to expand our Senate majority while significantly beating expectations in the House for the midterm year. We did this in spite of a very dramatic fundraising disadvantage driven by Democrats’ wealthy donors and special interests and very hostile media coverage, to put it mildly. … We also had a staggering number of House retirements. Trump Fires Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Names Matthew Whitaker as Interim Replacement

    USA Today,

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump fired Attorney General Jeff Sessions Wednesday, following a yearlong public shaming campaign that has raised questions about whether the president improperly interfered with the Justice Department’s inquiry into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Trump, who requested Sessions´ resignation, named the attorney general´s chief of staff Matthew Whitaker to serve as interim attorney general. In 2010, Obama lost 63 seats. In 1994, Clinton lost 52. You have to go all the way back to Reagan to find a Republican loss the same as Trump’s -- 26 in 1982. None lost their second term.

  21. More from the same source indicated above:

While Obama lost his core constituency in 2010, the Democratic Party found them again in 2018. Young voters turned out for Democrats by 67 percent, blacks by 90 percent, Hispanics by 68 percent, and women by 59 percent. Keeping healthcare was the voters biggest concern by a wide margin -- 40 percent compared to immigration (23%) and the economy at (21%). Love of socialism seemed to have win the House, not so much hatred of Trump.
