Down The Rabbit Hole

Yves Herman / Reuters

A Muslim woman is attended to by paramedics after being struck by a car that ploughed through a police barricade
Reality check about what appeared to be murderous Islamophobia as displayed by the above driver of the car which mowed down the Muslima in Brussels...

From Mullah Lodabullah of Iron Burka:
Stories about woman being mown down by right-wing anti-islam protester disappear down memory hole as it turns out the drivers' names were - Redouane D. and Mohamed B.

And the reality, also from Mullah Lodabullah of Iron Burka:

Molenbeek: Muslim Woman Run Down In Street During Anti-Islam Protests [Updated]
Update: the drivers of the car have been reported as Molenbeek residents Redouane D. and Mohamed B. Both are thought to have taken turns driving during Saturday’s incident, Redouane before the collision with the victim, and Mohamed after. Reports indicate that both drugs and alcohol may have been a factor, according to La Libre.

Two questions:

1. How many "news" outlets reported front and center the update about the vehicle's driver?

2. As compared to the numbers of deaths wrought by Islamic terrorists in the West, how many Muslims have died as a result of "Islamophobic" attacks?

Additional reading: This is just another in a long line of “Islamophobic hate crimes” that turns out to have been perpetrated by Muslims. Indeed, many of them are actually faked by Muslims.

  1. The power of the press is such that it sways the opinion of tens of millions here in the west. See the danger? Can those who do nothing but criticize others see why a stubborn minority proudly proclaims they do not believe the media?

The media is a propaganda tool doing the bidding of the moneyed elites to keep the rank-and-file stupid and pliant.

    1. You are entirely correct.
Now, what should we do about it?

    2. I don't know jez. I'm an old man who can't believe what I am witnessing. The days of trusted news sources like Walter Cronkite are a bygone memory. What was that X-Files catchphrase? Trust No One.

Helluva world we've created for ourselves, ain't it?

    3. The problem is systemic. I'm sure Cronkite was a fine journalist, but he personally would not fix what is wrong with today's news environment, which is concentration of ownership.

I think step one would be to encourage more diversity in the ownership of top-tier media companies.

    5. Jez, wouldn't stockholders be that diversity you seek?

    6. Ed: Maybe that helps a bit, but IMO there really need to be more companies. American mass media is basically sewn up (90% coverage IIRC) by just six companies (general electric, newscorp, disney, viacom, time-warner and cbs), and this level of concentration is the result of fairly recent mergers, takeovers etc. -- as recently as the '80s, that share of the media was supplied by over 50 separate companies.

      Frank: Behold.
That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruined choirs, where late the sweet birds sang.
In me thou see’st the twilight of such day
      As after sunset fadeth in the west;
Which by and by black night doth take away,
Death’s second self, that seals up all in rest.
In me thou see’st the glowing of such fire,
That on the ashes of his youth doth lie,
As the deathbed whereon it must expire,
Consumed with that which it was nourished by.
This thou perceiv’st, which makes thy love more strong,
To love that well which thou must leave ere long.

      Excellent point!

But there doesn't seem to be any possibility of going back to 30 years ago.

    8. Nor would I recommend doing so, but maybe this recent history holds some lessons that are relevant to our current situation? Might we find a way to diversify media ownership without first mastering time travel? ;)

    9. jez,
There are many outlets reporting news, some just small blogs, but people listen.
The US already has FCC laws in place so that no one person or company can lock up the news industry, but it doesn't matter. It's a common mindset among the various owners. They have shared financial interests and a common worldview, so they're going to ladle us out the same slop. Like I tell my grandkids, You just gotta keep your eyes and ears open and listen for what they don't say and watch for what they keep hidden. God gave us a thinking brain and the light of reason. All we gotta do is use 'em.

    10. These blogs and small publications tend to comment on and be influenced by the output of the top tier outlet. There are just a few publications who set the agenda for the rest.

    11. yes, but the much-derided National enquirer has broken some career-destroying news, and a weird-o in his mom's attic in Vermont almost derailed candidate George W. Bush's march to the White House by releasing report of an old DUI just days before the election.

    12. I'm not suggesting that the American media is a completely monophonic propaganda mill, just that it exhibits a bias that is entirely explainable by the fact that the market is owned/controlled by so few people who share so many interests. I'm not familiar with the National Enquirer, so can't judge whether its revelations have broken the model -- in general, tabloids do fit. Blogs are interesting, they are not biased or filtered in the same way as the traditional news publications, but neither are they funded. We may be close to a solution, but I don't see it yet.

  2. Should we interpret this as an incitement to religious hatred, for which I think you should be fined up to £2,500 and imprisoned up to seven years?

  3. Could it be that someone wanted to set up an incident? While it seems far-fetched, it's not that unbelievable.

The headlines stink. It's just like the Unibomber - remember all the 'right wing' fearmongering talk? And once his leftist manifesto was revealed, the MSM went mute. The same with the guy who assaulted Gabby Giffords. They so wanted him to be a 'right winger' and when he turned out to be something else ... more crickets.

      Maybe.

IMO, the incident was random, and the media made an agenda out of it.

      The headlines stink.

Indeed. Control the message, control the people (sheeple).

  4. The worst of the reporting is on Huffpost which fails to mention that both pro fascist and anti fascist groups were at the rally.
Other articles don't make any statement of the identity of the driver and issue updates.
It never got extensive coverage at any rate.

Then there is the ever reliable Breitbart stirring up the fringe right base over a story that barely made a ripple. Ever reliable Geller/Spencer probably won't pass this up either.
Maybe Freethinke feels Breitfart is an appropriate substitute for Cronkite.

Muslims Are Creating ‘Nations Within Nations, Says Former Head Of U.K. Equalities Commission:

The former head of Britain’s Equalities and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), Trevor Phillips, has admitted he “got almost everything wrong” regarding immigration in a new report, claiming Muslims are creating “nations within nations” in the West.

Phillips says followers of Islam hold very different values from the rest of society and many want to lead separate lives.

The former head of the U.K.’s equalities watchdog also advocates the monitoring of ethnic minority.

  9. maybe it's a case of a news reporter acting too fast before he got the truth of who was behind it.."racist?" Not.
Sort of like Obama did with the Harvard Prof incident..acting too fast isn't smart.

I wish Breitbart were alive....his company has been taken over by people almost as bad as those at FreeRepublic and WND....never what he intended, believe me
