    Shavit seems to accept as obvious the implication that Palestine could not become the home of the Jews unless Palestinians lost their homes in Palestine: “If Zionism was to be, Lydda could not be. If Lydda was to be, Zionism could not be.”

    But let's keep it pithy and simple. It makes it so much easier to be self righteous.

  2. It really does seem as if the world has gone mad. In addition to what Schieffer mentioned, we have the following in the summer of 2014:

    Serious Ebola outbreak.

    The horrific persecution of Christians in Syria and Iraq.

    The ongoing riots in Ferguson, Missouri.

  6. What Sarah said is very true, If these idiots would wait a while until after the cop in question is charged they'd probably get their freaking justice. Instead, what do they do? They riot, they loot, they set fires and burn down their own neighborhoods and they destroy other peoples property, and that makes me think that's exactly what they wanted in the first place. Those people aren't interest in "Justice" what THEY want is FREE STUFF! And this is their chance to get it..

  7. After watching the coverage of the Ferguson incident yesterday, on CNN they had alleged eyewitnesses to the events from the first shots on. Sitting beside what I assumed was her lawyer, a young woman described what she saw. I noticed that while her interpretation of what she saw is open to cross-examination (are you sure you saw what you saw?) what isn't in dispute is the subject who got shot was inside the officer's vehicle struggling with the officer. That would seem to corroborate the officer's description of being assaulted and the subject going for his weapon.

    The eye-witnesses' description confirms the officer and subject had some sort of physical altercation at the vehicle. What she goes on to describe is the actual shooting. But whether what she was seeing was a racist officer murdering a subject or responding to the subject's assault and grab for his weapon she couldn't know. Understandably the actual shooting will be most prominent in her recollection.

    I would have to believe the officer's account of what happened before I believe the accounts of what happened from an angry black mob.

  8. This surely isn't the first time that the World has gone mad but never, never, before has it had the massive destructive capability, of today!.

    Re. Ferguson : At least in the Rodney King incident the mayhem didn't start until 4 (LAPD) officers were acquitted. This one began before the alleged erring officer was even identified. Does that make these rioters PROACTIVE?

  12. Our national government Holder/Obama currently represents "the angry black mob". If the residents of Ferguson have a problem with their police, they certainly have an authority to appeal to. Short of that, I hope their riots get crushed by the local gendarmes.

  16. I have not commented anywhere on the Ferguson situation, waiting for some truth and facts to come out. I saw where some are upset that police have armored vehicles. I say whatever the police need to keep the peace, to keep rioters from acting like animals gone wild.

    Would the comment have been objectionable if the word "blacks" had been used?

  26. If indeed blacks are targeting whites for attacks based solely on skin color, that is racist.

    Now, whites have certainly wronged blacks over the course of history. But when blacks target whites today, doing so does not right the wrongs nor bring atonement, but rather put in motion something else just as hideous.

For most of us, it's hideous and should never be allowed. And you know I'm the least PC person you probably know. Sorry, but it really jarred me reading that comment.

    To clarify, Z, I'm not saying that there is a good excuse for using that word. That same standard should apply to Michael Brown as well. I think that some of his rap "music" used several words for which there really is no excuse.

    That said, you and I do agree on one thing: local police forces are being militarized at an alarming rate.

    Now, two questions:

    1. Who is funding this militarization of local police forces?

    2. When did this militarization of local police forces begin? Not the first time, but the continuum leading to now.
