Stick a Fork in It

Silverfiddle Rant!
The first clue President Trump's efforts to overturn the election were not serious was when he appointed stumblebum Rudy Giuliani to head up the effort. Everything that boob involves himself in is quickly reduced to a farcical shambles.

Rudy drools on himself in the courtroom and makes Biden look like the picture of youthful mental clarity, and judges all over the US are throwing out lawsuits left and right, but Team Trump continues to bang the drum on rightwing cable and talk radio.  Is this a money grab of some kind, keeping the campaign going? I have my own suspicions...

They can yammer on all day about voting machines and mathematical algorithms, but until they bring the proof in a court of law, its all BS. It's time to pack up the circus tent, send Rudy off to rehab, and have the president deliver a gracious concession speech.

To my fellow Donald Trump voters, I urge you to turn it off, tune it out and drop the bullshitters from your life.  Donald Trump did great things and showed the GOP how to win, but its time for him to go.  And not return.

Disagree?  Bring Evidence.  Not Hannity blather, not talk radio talking points or news conference video.  Evidence that can be presented to a judge in a court of law.

I wouldn't say that tRump taught you how to win. He did lose the popular vote twice, a first.

      It is slumber, it is not death;
For he struggles at times to arise,
And above him the lurid skies
Are hot with his fiery breath.
The crags are piled on his breast,
      The earth is heaped on his head;
But the groans of his wild unrest,
      Though smothered and half suppressed,
Are heard, and he is not dead.
      And the nations far away
      Are watching with eager eyes;
      They talk together and say,
      "To-morrow, perhaps to-day,
      Euceladus will arise!
And the old gods, the austere
      Oppressors in their strength,
Stand aghast and white with fear
At the ominous sounds they hear,
And tremble, and mutter, "At length!"
Ah me! for the land that is sown
      With the harvest of despair!
      Where the burning cinders, blown
From the lips of the overthrown
      Enceladus, fill the air.
Where ashes are heaped in drifts
Over vineyard and field and town,
      Whenever he starts and lifts
His head through the blackened rifts
Of the crags that keep him down.
See, see! the red light shines!
'T is the glare of his awful eyes!
And the storm-wind shouts through the pines
      Of Alps and of Apennines,
      "Enceladus, arise!"

      Disingenuous.

Excerpt from the link you provided:

To be sure, the bulk of the job losses in the Trump economy were precipitated by the shutdown orders associated with the worst pandemic in 100 years.

"I would say Covid-19 is one hell of an extenuating circumstance," said Greg Valliere, chief US policy strategist for AGF Investments.

      I keep hearing this refrain:

whether the Trump administration's handling of the pandemic is responsible for deeper economic damage than would have taken place had the White House taken a more active role in fighting coronavirus,

and wonder what EXACTLY he should have done. This is a damn virus and will behave as viruses do -- ever in search of hosts.

      Delete
    3. AOW stated... [I]... wonder what EXACTLY he [Pres Trump] should have done.

President Trump was dealt a tough hand, perhaps a hand no sitting president could have successfully navigated. That said, I think there are a few things he could have done...

He should have been upfront and not used all the "We're gonna be fine in the fall" language.

He could have told the truth, that he knew, based on his own words on the Woodward tapes, that this was horrible. Americans can handle the truth.

He could have invoked his emergency powers to force companies to produce PPE for health care professionals and N95 [which we still can't get] masks for the general populace.

He could have personally followed the advice of his medical advisors and better advocated for wearing masks as much as possible.

He could have avoided mocking people who yes, are afraid, but who wear masks.

His admin worked their asses off at the front end for New York, getting ventilators, etc in the initial wave. He did call for a national shutdown, which helped keep the early numbers from going crazy. But then he almost immediately undercut his own message by advocating against it.

No president is gonna get something like this perfect. But like Churchill, when you call and declare a National Emerrgency, as Pres Trump did, tell us the truth, force businesses to provide what we need and graciously lead.

      Delete
    4. I should add also... Pres Trump and his Admin have as best we can tell, done a great job of getting vaccines moving and developed.

      Nothing short of miraculous.

I suspect that may be the defining good achievement of his presidency...

    5. Dave,
      Hindsight is always 20-20.

That said, Trump has always spoken in optimistic terms -- perhaps because of his braggart personality and way of speaking.

I, too, cringed at some of his statements, particularly "We're gonna be fine in the fall" language and his recent statements that the virus was receding when it clearly was not.

Good point here that you made: forced production of PPE for health care professionals and N95 [which we still can't get] masks for the general populace.

He could have told the truth, that he knew, based on his own words on the Woodward tapes, that this was horrible. Americans can handle the truth.

I'm not so sure about that last sentence. And we also have even experts debating what the truth is about this virus. This, as one example: "Greatest Hoax Ever Perpetrated On An Unsuspecting Public" - Cambridge-Trained Physician Drops Truth Bomb on COVID.

I thought that he did invoke emergency powers.

All medical ppl tell us to wear N95's, but we can't them. Why not? Because we don't have sufficient capacity to make them.

That's probably the biggest single short coming of this admin. It makes me wonder why he bothered with the Emer Powers.

I've used the KN95's from China. And I'll be honest, I'd rather have US made, but I can't.

Skud... there's lots of blame to go around, and as AOW said, hindsight is 20/20. But those with the greatest power to affect an outcome, or change, are the most culpable. That means for me, Trump gets the lion's share of the blame followed by, from your list, Cuomo.

Pelosi gets lumped with McConnell as US business owners fail and families and school districts go broke.

Because the serious lawyers all quit, fearing for their careers. Look at the court filings, where you need to bring evidence. The real lawyers have said, in court that they are not alleging fraud. Because they have no evidence. President Trump wants them to go to court and argue fraud. The courts should order a new election with in person paper ballots only and hand counting with equal representation for both the counting & inspections, and doing so with legitimate poll-watchers, and legitimate machines, but that's a long shot.
So my advice is to contact the legislatures in every state & let them know we are all paying attention to what has been happening.. . They can't certify the results of a fraudulent election or the whole system will collapse, and our elections in the future will be all fraudulent.
Either the courts order the House settle it or they ignore it & try to install the Chinese puppet.

What sets this election apart is the appeal to the lazy voter which worked well for one side. We have had absentee voting for decades but you have to take some initiative to get a ballot. This time millions were mailed with no action on the part of voter. You don't need to do anything to vote and you can do it from your couch or basement. The courts have decided, time and time again. No fraud. Even the president's legal team has said, in court, they are "Not alleging fraud." The Trump Admin has publicly stated, the president's denials notwithstanding, that "The November 3rd election was the most secure in American history.

The conservative judge in Pennsylvania stated of the latest attempt by the Trump Campaign to overturn the election that his lawyers had failed to present “compelling legal arguments and factual proof of rampant corruption” in their unprecedented bid to invalidate millions of ballots.

“Instead, this Court has been presented with strained legal arguments without merit and speculative accusations, unpled in the operative complaint and unsupported by the evidence,” Brann fumed.

“In the United States of America, this cannot justify the disenfranchisement of a single voter, let alone all the voters of its sixth most populated state. Our people, laws, and institutions demand more.”

Even GOP Senator Pat Toomey agreed with the judge and stated afterwards that he knew the conservative judge to fair and unbiased, that Joe Biden had won and will be the 46th president of the US.

In fact, the Trump Admin has lost, or withdrawn over 30 cases that it has tried to argue in front of courts and judges across the US.

Powell appears to have taken the announcement in stride. “I agree with the statement today. I will represent #WeThePeople and seek the Truth,” she said in a statement. “I intend to expose all the fraud and let the chips fall where they may. We will not allow the foundations of this great Republic to be destroyed by abject fraud or our votes for President Trump and other Republicans to be stolen by foreign interests or anyone else.”

Exposing Republic corruption is also needed...

The vultures assembling and protecting their paychecks do not want Powell getting paid, nor do they want any financial liability. That’s all this statement is.

Could well be. I hadn't thought of that angle.

      Damn, but politics is corrupt!
