An Apt Description In Verse

This acrostic sonnet says it all!

___ To a Pencil-Necked Prick ___

Foul, redolent of Insincerity ––
Unctuous fabricator of Tall Tales ––
Coldly, calculating smothering Verity ––
Killing Honesty, –– he’s hard as nails.

A calm and mellow baritone belies
Deadly partisan Ambition bold ––
A Bastard eager to destroy with Lies ––
Mild mannered Malice dished up cold.

Smug with balding, pop-eyed, purse-lipped head
Creepily he stares without a smile ––
Haughty, humorless, with Bug Eyes dead ––
Initiating Treachery in bland Style ––

Fomenting foul Fiction to berate
Frustrates Decency as it spreads Hate.

Are you suggesting that in order to avoid the sort of distressing unpleasantness and upheaval we are now experiencing courtesy of the DemonRats, it would be better simply to turn a blind eye to their nefarious antics, and let them get away with their incessant bullying in service to their tyrannical agenda?

Not criticizing here –– only asking for a bit of clarification.

    5. I'm normally rather good at reading between the lines –– you might even say it's one of my spcualities ––, but I still believe when writing for public consumption that your intentions would best be spelt out unmistakkably –– unless, of course, you wish to appear, mysterious, elusive, esoteric, and subtle in order to stimulate greater curiosity.

That may be fine for poetry, and exotic works of fiction, but probably not for expository writing.

    6. After the millions of words I've puked out here over the years, you need clarification?

      Jez got it.

    7. GOOD! Apparently that's ALL that was needed. Pardon my effrontery.

If JEZ gets it, no one else needs to then.

      Okay. I've got it.

I can't seem to get over having been a teacher, a newsaper editor, then creator, guiding genius and writer for two periodical journals.

Our "mission" then was to do our best to reach as many as possible, and not just have a good time amusing ourselves making in-jokes in a private club-like atmosphere.

The academic training I received and the work habits I formed out of necessity continue to live on, despite my having retired more than twenty years ago. Old habits die hard, and will probably never fully expire in me till I'm dead and gone.

It's not easy being a dinosaur in a world that no longer makes a particle of sense to me, but I shan't quit till Nature akes it impossible for me to continue.

      Why is that, you ask?

Because I've nothing better to do with whatever time may be left to me, and I stubbornly continue to believe that TRUTH is not, never has been, and never could be subject to the whims and caprices of FASHION.

I will always seek to VERIFY –– never to FACTCHECK –– information that comes in over the metaphorical transom. Likewise I shall continue to DENOUNCE miscreants and never to CALL THEM OUT.

I will alway do my best to avoid splitting infinitives, even though that lamentable practice has now practically become de rigeur.

An so on down the line.

You may call me "Proudly Incorrigible," if you like. I promise you it won't faze me a bit.

I agree entirely, and I would emphasise that there never has been an era free from the distractions of fashion, or worse, were dominated by deliberate cultural manipulations, flooding the public sphere with deliberate lies and misleading arguments for political and commercial gain.
Things may be worse than usual right at the moment, or maybe it always feels that way. Whatever -- I think it's worth taking care not to overlook the foibles of any cherished era, howerver charming it seems or nostalgic we are for it.

    10. I freely admit there's a downside to everything, but unlike most tyical leftists in my acquaintance, I prefer to emphasize the bright side of things –– especially things I favor.

Take WAGNER, for instance, all too many choose to emphasize is Wagner's perceived aANTI-SEMITISM. This observation is usually followed with the assertion that HITLER was one of Wagner's greatest fans –– as though THAT ought to convince people that Wagner was a NO GOOD BUM.

Im sure I don't need to explicate MY opiniin of THAT narrow, bigoted, dispiriting, pointlessly antagonistic evaluation of one of the greatest of the great composers, do I?.

It all has to do with keeping one's eye on the doughnut, and not on the hole.

  3. The volume and frequency of media and Democratic lies have reached the point where I believe they will succeed through the principle that "a lie repeated often enough, long enough and loud enough becomes accepted as truth." They do not even pretend to make the lies believable, and they never offer to provide anything that resembles sufficient proof. They just keep repeating the lie as if it was established fact, and in doing so sway public opinion.

We who love liberty are between a rock and a hard place. This was not the intended purpose of the first amendment, but to curb the lies would be a betrayal of all that we hold dear.

    2. Loving Liberty –– to me –– means allowing others to live as they choose –– as long as it doesn't interfere with or mar the Pursuit of Happiness as desired and practiced by others.

However, if someone derives pleasure and satisfaction from taunting, belittling, bullying, trying hurt someone's feelings, or physically assaulting others, tat person is out of order, and needs to be checked and disciplined until he mends his ways.

I don't believe "Freedom of Expression" means we have a God-given right to insult, threaten, harass, intimidate, blackmail, defame or otherwise cause grief in the life of another just because "we feel like it."

In order to establish and maintain Civilization a society needs to treasure and do everythg possible to foster consideration for the legitimate needs and feelings of others.

A humorous political poster just sent to me today says,

"MY RIGHTS DO NOT END WHERE YOUR FEELINGS BEGIN."

I think that sums it up nicely.

So it's often necessary to act pragmatically –– unless one has a pnchant for martyrdom –– or so it seems to me.

  7. Excellent article: Here’s Why Ukraine Pops Up in So Many U.S. Scandals

I do think we are causing a meltdown in Ukraine. Read the whole article and you will understand why corrupt Ukrainians will bend over backwards and do whatever the political cronies in the US tell them, depending on which corrupt party is in power in the US.

    First, they are corrupt...

Ukraine would like America and Europe to think of it as a promising young democracy, the good little country struggling to fend off the gravitational pull of evil Russia. There is a lot of truth in that. But it is also an oligarchy where a very small number of people control the country’s natural resources, a legacy of its Soviet past. Around each of these people is a clan vying for influence, resources, and political power. They sponsor media outlets and politicians. Ukraine’s new president, Volodymyr Zelensky, for example, has promised to fight corruption but is also closely linked with one of the country’s most powerful oligarchs.

More importantly, they are in a precarious position and dependent on others...

The main reason Ukraine is in our news feeds so much is that the country marks a border—the word “Ukraine” means borderland—a point of friction between two competing empires and geopolitical visions: Russia versus the West, led by America. The two sides have been fighting over which camp Ukraine joins for the past two decades. A great way to fight that war of geopolitical influence is with money. There is a lot of Russian money in Ukraine and a lot of Western money, in the form of IMF loans and American and European aid. “Ukraine is a weak country; it’s got a weak civil society. They are used to looking to outside forces for help,” says Evelyn Farkas, who served as Obama’s deputy assistant secretary of defense for Russia and Ukraine. “People feel like there’s money to be made, and it happens to be an easier place because it’s in Europe.”

  9. CI... as impeachment is a political exercise, what types of things would, or perhaps should rise to that level? At least in your opinion?

Related to Trump, I can see some reasonable disagreement over what he said to Turkey, China and all that. I think there are many in the GOP and the US who see the conversations and entreaties from our President publicly asking foreign countries to involve themselves in our elections as wrong. But they don't believe it should rise to the impeachment.

But we've reached a point, it seems, where those who supposedly believe that, won't say it.

    Why is that?

  10. Ci... that's a fair and 100% reasonable statement. I think we heard that from the Dems during the Clinton Impeachment. They said Clinton was wrong to lie, but they did not believe, based on what he lied about, to rise to the level of impeachment.

Ppl won't even allow for the possibility that Pres Trump did something wrong, but that the "something" does not warrant removal. So they are twisted into defense pretzels, leaning on excuses like Trump "was only kidding."

  11. Clinton was not impeached because he "Lied", He was impeached because he committed "perjury". He repeatedly lied and misrepresented himself 'while under oath in a court of law'. He then proceeded to defend his perjury with such deep intellectual theories such as 'oral sex isn't really sex', 'it depends on what your definition of is, is', and, 'I didn't consider us alone, my secretary was in the front office'.
People have spent time in Federal Prison for committing the same crime but Blowjob Bill only gets a slap on the wrist and couldn't practice law in front of the Supreme Court for 5 years

He did it out of self-interest and defamed his victims in the press and through his surrogates. Poor, poor, blowjob Billy and his enablers. He sorely abused his position of power to hide his sexual perversions, --literally, inside the oval office-- and his creepy enablers shared responsibility for his actions.

"So they are twisted into defense pretzels, leaning on excuses like Trump "was only kidding."

Actually, he was trolling the press and other idiots to make them lose their collective minds... Mission accomplished!

    1. @ jez:
"Would you claim that Trump is innocent of obstructing justice?"
      I would say he didn't.
      Here are the reasons why.

Russiagate involved no underlying crime as found and reported by the Special Counsel: that, "The Russian government sponsored efforts to illegally interfere with the 2016 presidential election but did not find that the Trump campaign or other Americans colluded in those schemes.”

Trump waived executive privilege. Consequently, Mueller, wrote Emmett Flood, then-special counsel to the president, to Attorney General William Barr on April 19: "approximately 1.4 million pages of documents were provided" --to the investigation--. Flood added, --Trump--“encouraged every White House staffer to cooperate fully with the SCO [Special Counsel’s Office] and, so far as we are aware, all have done so.”
Among these, 'voluntary interviewees' were senior adviser Jared Kushner, senior policy adviser Stephen Miller, and these former aides were:
      Chief Strategist Steve Bannon
      Deputy Counsel Annie Donaldson
      Communications Director Hope Hicks
      Chief of Staff John Kelly
      Counsel Don McGahn
      Chief of Staff Reince Priebus
      Press Secretary Sarah Sanders
      Press Secretary Sean Spicer

Trump himself answered questions in writing, as his attorneys and Mueller negotiated. Mueller could have pressed to quiz Trump in person, but he did not. That was Mueller’s decision, not Trump’s dodge.

The top three Russiagate inspectors testified under oath that Trump never obstructed their efforts.

Mueller, testified before the House Judiciary Committee on July 24 and was asked:“At any time in the investigation, was your investigation curtailed or stopped or hindered?” Mueller: "No." “Were you allowed to complete your investigation unencumbered?” Mueller: “Yes.”

Former FBI director James Comey told the Senate Judiciary Committee on May 3, 2017, that he never felt political pressure to halt any inquiry, presumably including Russiagate.
“I’m talking about a situation where we were told to stop something for a political reason,” Comey said. “That would be a very big deal. It’s not happened in my experience.”

None of the president’s men defunded the Russiagate inquest. As McCabe told the Senate Intelligence Committee on May 11, 2017: “I know that we have resourced that investigation adequately.”

As for the second part of your question ie "Are there any leftists who would claim Clinton was innocent of perjury?"
I'm sure there are but there isn't any evidence to the contrary except Clintons' "perjured" testimony. A better question would be, is it possible to claim ignorance when you close your eyes, put your fingers in your ears and scream at the top of your lungs, so you are able to claim you have never seen or heard any evidence to the contrary. We call that, Willful Ignorance.
