Ed, I spend a significant portion of the day with some cleaning out of This Old House. I try to do something every day.
It rained in the afternoon, so we didn't try to go anywhere to watch fireworks. Doing so is a pain, anyway, because of Mr. AOW's mobility scooter. In the evening, we watched Trump's speech and the fireworks on television.
Time changes our perspective on important matters. In 1776, "Independence Day" was NOT a very happy period in our history, and remained this way until around 1783. The Revolution didn't begin in 1776, of course ... it began much earlier as an "idea." The notion that we could determine our own destiny. And contrary to what most people are taught, our problem was not with King George. He was only mentioned in the Declaration of Independence because it was written as an indictment, which required that we charge someone with offenses
No, our problem was with Parliament. Parliament today continues to be a thorn in the side of freedom-loving people, and the British today are that. Parliament is the reason why so many modern British migrate to the United States. But we should not gloat. Our Congress today has become just like the British parliament. Shame on us ...
It is not a happy Independence Day when so many of our people repudiate the sacrifices made in human lives and opt instead for a Marxist agenda on the order of Vladimir Lenin and Joseph Stalin. In this, I completely agree with Silverfiddle. Please leave; stake your claim in utterly failed political ideology and misery at some other location. Don't talk about it, just do it.

DeleteMuch wisdom there. Very compactly presented. Has about it the ring of truth.
I trust you enjoyed the day.

Wat tedious name calling.

ReplyDeleteHeard a good joke this week: how could there have been a war between just Britain and America - who would be the baddies?

DeleteThank you for that well written statement of what's been patently obvious for a long time to all who are not brain dead.
