John Kasich's "Culinary Controversy"

This is news? And in the political section, too.

Are you kidding me?

From ABC News (dated March 30, 2016):
Republican presidential hopeful John Kasich bit into culinary controversy this week when he turned down a Wisconsin dessert and used a fork to eat pizza in New York.
The 24/7 news cycle will be the death of us all.

  1. Yep, much like the 'treasonous horror' of John Kerry ordering a Philly cheesesteak with *gasp* Swiss!.

Our "news" media has long adopted the TMZ model of infotainment.

  2. MInutiae! Minutiae! Minutia!

The morbid preoccupation of a people with too much time on their hands and too little substance in their minds.

Still, anyone who would eat pizza with a fork shows himself to be a naive, hopelessly uncouth hick.

In it's own way it's every bit as bad as the doofus who would walk into a four-star restaurant in New York wearing baggy overalls and a straw hat spitting chewing tobacco on the floor then putting his feet up on the table before ordering.

I mean there are SOME things that just are NOT done.

Eating pizza with a fork is certainly one of them. ;-)

    1. FT,
But would what that rube did in the four-star restaurant be covered on the nightly news?

    2. That would depend in whether or not he was running for public office, I imagine. ;-)

In all other areas uncouth, outré behavior has been encouraged now for decades.

Politicians, however, are held to an artificially "higher" standard, because campaigns have devolved into an endless series of GOTCHA Games –– fed and watered by a press corps, too lazy too uncaring, and too corrupt to bother doing legitimate research on the issues.

    3. FT..I did a lengthy comment on ALL ABOUT EVE in response to you but it didn't publish somehow...sorry about that! I did agree and added some thoughts.

    4. Z,
I saw your comment! Blogger burped and deep sixed dozens of comments today. I was nowhere near my computer when this happened. ** sigh**

    5. I SAW your comment, Z, was grateful for it, and commented on it at some length. Thanks for trying.

Blogger os becoming increasingly unsatisfactory. It threw me off my own blog in January, and has kept me locked out ever since.

Could Blogger have been hacked by the growing army of mischief makers whose main purpose in life seems to be to foment instability?

Seems very likely. It might even be an inside job.

The world grows less sane and more perplexing every day.

AOW...NOT YOUR FAULT....isn't it all so frustrating!?

  3. Didn't Kerry do something similar during his presidential campaign? Ask for a Philly Cheese sandwich (in Philadephia, btw) with a different kind of cheese, or something like that?

And yes, the Infotainment-Media Complex is worthless. Their malpractice is almost criminal.

  4. The press (and some of the political establishment) is still stuck in the old days, where the political grandees would come down off of Mount Olympus every four (or two or six) years and put on the ol' chummy bonhomie, pretending to be one of the little people.

Remember candidate Kerry in Iowa, all decked out in brand new Gander Mountain hunting apparel, asking in his irrepressible Snob Hill Brahman where he could get a "huntin' licence?"

Political campaigns still turn on personal appeal, a propaganda-coaxed feeling that the candidate actually cares about you, your family, your town, your tribe... Not just cares, but cares personally, and has been there.. Good ol' Scranton Joe... Bill Clinton, the man from Hope (the man from Hot Springs would have reminded everyone about the more unsavory aspects of his personal life)

It's all BS, a con job, anything to distract us from the reality of what the psychopaths* in power are doing to us and to the world.

*- I don't say that lightly or for comical shock value. Psychopathic personalities gravitate toward positions of power and authority, and I think that explains much.

  6. AOW: Totally unrelated, but I thought you'd "enjoy" this article:

    http://www.politico.eu/article/brussels-attacks-terrorism-europe-muslims-brussels-attacks-airport-metro/

It supports contention that Islam is incompatible with western liberal democracy.

“Almost 60 percent agree that Muslims should return to the roots of Islam, 75 percent think there is only one interpretation of the Quran possible to which every Muslim should stick and 65 percent say that religious rules are more important to them than the laws of the country in which they live.”

What is so hateful about stating plain facts, and saying that it makes no one happy to import immigrants who will disrupt the host society and who will end up resenting and hating the nation and the people who invited them in.

      I've retrieved your comment.

    3. Blogger is definitely burping! Many comments to the previous post vanished because Blogger labeled as spam every comment made to that thread. Including my comments!

Blogger automatically deletes comments when those comments are made to spam.

To be clear....All comments were intact a few hours ago. Then, voilà! Gone!

  8. That reporter needs some diversity training.
How dare he criticise the personal choice of a culinary challenged person in how to eat pizza?
He should issue a retraction immediately.

  10. the pizza flap is ridiculous....the custard thing is just plain stupid...have a BITE, Kasich, you're in THEIR town and they're displaying their goods. You won't get fat, I promise. (plus, it was probably fabulously delicious!)

Obama, of course, could shovel mud into his mouth and the media'd not notice.

CI's right above...I'm sure it was the rightwing media that nailed Kerry for Swiss cheese and that's ridiculous, too...like when they insult him for speaking French. Gad, GROW UP, America, it's not going to kill you to have an official know another language.

  12. I always use knife and fork for Pizza. And that was before I lived in England where the locals look upon those who eat pizza with their hands as neanderthals.

    1. The British shouldn't even be eating pizza. It's incongruous with their traditional culture. They should have stuck with Ploughman's Lunches, Shepherd's Pie, Steak and Kidney Pie, Cornish Pasties, Gooseberry Fool, and Warm Beer. ;-)

    2. Kasich comes from Ohio, and you do too, Kid, right?

I guess you have a perfect to your own quaint local customs, but eating pizza with cutlery just AIN'T Italian.

    3. I grew-up in metropolitan Columbus OH, said to have the most per capita pizza places in the country. Not once did I ever see anyone [there] eat pizza other than with their hands. Kasich is actually from Pennsylvania; perhaps that explains it. Anyway, who cares?

    4. The Brit's perfect pizza is pineapple and ham....it makes me shiver, tho I know that's pretty popular here..there, it's the norm. ugh.
The only pizza I'd eat with a fork is a very very saucy one....and it has to have mushrooms and sausage and pepperoni :-)

    5. The pizza arrived in Britain post-war, slightly before the Cheese Bureau invented the ploughman's lunch (mid 1950s).
You may be interested that the UK media followed a similar line in our recent election, with Milliband's bacon sandwich and Cameron's hot dog both capturing the public's imagination, if the newspapers are anything to go by. (they aren't! ignore them!)

  13. For me, it depends on the consistency of the pizza. If the crust is limp and toppings are loaded on, I might eat one or two bites of a slice of pizza with a fork. But not when the piece of pizza gets to a manually-manageable size.

    Just my two cents.

    1. Well, AOW, with the over-commercialization and excessive popularity of "pizza" I can honestly say, as the grandson of a first generation Italian immigrant family, that what-passes-for pizza today is NOT pizza. I'm old enough to remember the real thing. It was very simple –– none of the "toppings" that make it soggy or overly heavy existed then –– and it was "indescribably delicious" to borrow a phrase from an old Peter-Paul Mounds commercial.

It's hard to find ANYTHING that's truly AUTHENTIC anymore. Commercialization and excessive popularity KILL QUALITY.

That is one of the bad things the USA has given the world.

  14. IF abortion was illegal, why wouldn't there be a consequence to breaking the law? Before Roe/Wade women who had abortions DID get prosecuted for breaking the law.
Trump's oratory is sad enough without having to lie about what he said.
FYI, Trump never said he would nuke Europe, in fact he said NO, but the liberal press is saying today he said he would nuke Europe. Just more liberal lies, which are totally unnecessary since Trump says enough to hang himself.
Why isn't the Democratic president pushing cases to the Court to stop these abortion clinic abuses. Row/Wade explicitly says the State cannot make it unreasonable for a woman to get an abortion. If a State closes down it's abortion clinics, they are in violation of the law, yet, I don't hear the president telling his AG to investigate, and sue those States.
So now it's the liberals dividing the American electorate with the abortion issue.
This is why most politicians don't answer hypothetical questions. Trump isn't most politicians, which is why he is getting so much support. He should have just told Cris he doesn't answer hypothetical questions.
Japan having nukes is also a hypothetical question. The Japanese Constitution explicitly bans any nuke weapons by The State
