See CULTURE OF IGNORANCE – PART ONE at The Burning Platform. A lengthy read, but one that I hope you will take the time to peruse and absorb. Brief excerpt below the fold.
...The youth of the country consume themselves in techno-narcissistic triviality, barely looking up from their iGadgets long enough to make eye contact with other human beings. The toxic combination of government delivered public education, dumbed down socially engineered curriculum, taught by uninspired intellectually average union controlled teachers, to distracted, unmotivated, latchkey kids, has produced a generation of young people ignorant about history, basic mathematical concepts, and the ability or interest to read and write. They have been taught to feel rather than think critically. They have been programmed to believe rather than question and explore. Slogans and memes have replaced knowledge and understanding. They have been lured into inescapable student loan debt serfdom by the very same government that is handing them a $200 trillion entitlement bill and an economy built upon low paying service jobs that don’t require a college education, because the most highly educated members of society realized that outsourcing the higher paying production jobs to slave labor factories in Asia was great for the bottom line, their stock options and bonus pools....
Read the rest HERE. Considering all that the author has penned, do you believe that there is a way out?

  1. Well, honestly, no. Not from my peers at least. The few of us even remotely educated are few. And even still, I was wincing in a few places. Critical thought, challenging the norm, or contemplating the logic of our leaders decisions is lost on my generation, completely and utterly. Hell, basic common sense is lost on us. I can't see a way out, frankly. The mentality of the takers, the lazy really, isn't going to end as long as the government can dish out money, and tech is made to make us forget. And by the time that ends, we will be little more than mindless lumps of flesh.

At this point, disaster is inevitable. Somethings going to break. That, in my mind, is the only way out. Darwinist though the idea is, the only way to really fix the problem is to get rid of the weak, the ignorant, the helpless. Kinda like how 451 end.

Short of a calamity, though, I think there is no way to fix the problem. Not while the teens today can SO EASILY ignore reality. They don't live in reality, so how can they judge it? Learn from it? Change it? And short of killing the entire grid, how can we force them into reality?

    1. Wildstar,
In the homeschool group, we have serious students. You are one of those serious students -- most of the time, anyway. **wink**

As a group, we are clearly outside the mainstream of today's society.

The above said, we've had students who were hypnotized by technology and updating their Facebook pages. These students have compromised their education in their attempts to "stay connected" -- even to the point of sleep deprivation.

If you have time, please read America's Education Model, which my friend Mustang posted today.

  2. I can think of no reason to be optimistic. Sorry!

  3. I'm with Jim.

I must also add that we are raising the most narcissistic people, ever! How weird is it to take endless pictures of oneself and post them on Facebook so everyone can log on and tell them how beautiful they are? Worst of all, the "adults" are doing it too.

  4. What Jim said. It is a human tendency to follow the path of least resistance. It is definitely cultural, which is why the Chinese will one day control the world —our children, who are happily mindless, and their parents who allowed that to happen.

  5. Hold it, O Ye of Little faith! ;-)

God is Almighty and Eternal. God is All-in-All. God is Truth. God is Love. God is Spirit. God is Intelligence. God is Principle. God is Character. God is Life. God is good, and He made Man (us!) in His image and likeness, therefore in Truth we can do nothing but reflect His perfection.

I detest FDR, but he was right when he said, "We have nothing to fear, but fear, itself." The same could be said of any and all undesirable, threatening, distressing phenomena.

"Blessed is the man who walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly ... for the ungdly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away..."

When we allow ourselves to adopt a DEFEATIST attitude, we have succumbed to the blandishments of the Devil -- EVIL.

And what is Evil? Who is the Devil?

NOTHING! They are the VOID -- the place where we wrongly IMAGINE we have a life apart from God. Thoughts that try to deny the almighty, ubiquitous, power of God invariably result in confusion, misery, endless strife and ill health.

Don't GIVE IN to the blandishments and temptations of NOTHINGNESS. Affirm your faith in God, humble yourself to rely on Him, and you WILL develop a wholesome, optimistic, energetic, affirmative approach to life that sees all that seem horrible as the ILLUSION it truly is.

Reliance on God (the embodiment of Truth, Love and Principle) has the power to transform our lives and bring us joy, even if we are cast into a dungeon, or put in a concentration camp -- or tied to a post in front of a firing squad.

"... Even though He SLAY me, yet will I trust in Him ..."

Affirm God's presence always. He will NEVER let you down.

    1. FT,
Even so, it's difficult not to sink into despair. We are overwhelmed with horrific news. Should we go to live under rocks? Perhaps.

The Lord does not promise us "the easy life."

    2. Well, AOW, tempting though it may be, if we succumb to misery and despair, we have simultaneously insulted God and handed Satan a tremendous victory. I really believe that, or I wouldn't say it.

I think too that we do a tremendous disservice to ourselves -- and those who depend on us -- when we give way to unadulterated pessimism.

After all, look look at the truly wonderful thing happening to you and Mr. AOW, right now -- and the many joyful, encouraging events you experience in the classroom -- and the beauty and great significance of Music and Books -- and Nature -- and our pets. All of that proves the good is live and well, so there is no good reason to give in to despair.

I believe the enemedia is owned and operated by The Forces of Darkness. They have made it their MISSION to try to demoralize us, destroy our faith, make us cynical and rob us of inspiration to continue "fighting the good fight."

We can never win that fight, except incrementally, in a day-by-day struggle to keep the faith and NOT succumb to the ever-present temptation to "Curse God and Die" (Book of Job).

IF we truly believe that Jesus has born our griefs, and suffered for OUR sakes, how could we DARE let Him down by giving in to a sense of hopelessness?

Don't mean to sound sanctimonious, but the Tidal Waves of Negativity that engulf the blogosphere -- and the "NEWS" channels -- MUST be COUNTERACTED with POSITIVE THOUGHT and CONSTRUCTIVE ENDEAVOR.

Wallowing in anger, fear, resentment and self-pity isn't going to do ANYONE a particle of good.

Hope I don't sound like a scold? To me cultivating, maintaining and cherishing faith in the ultimate power of Good is just good common sense.

Remember little Anne Frank, who -- even though she died a horrible death in a Concentration Camp wrote in her famous diary "I still believe people are basically good at heart."

If she could say that as a 13-year-old Jewish girl trying to survive in Nazi-dominated Europe, who are WE to throw in the towel, just because a bunch of unworthy, demon-possessed malefactors have temporarily taken over Washington, DC?

Unless they try to suspend the Constitution and stage a revolutionary coup d'etat, we STILL have the power to VOTE them OUT, if only we keep our sites fixed on worthy, godlike objectives.
