1968 Film: Wild in the Streets

[For this week's Break from Politics, please scroll down]

Posted without commentary...for now.

Trailer:

Full movie:

Theme song "The Shape of Things to Come":

Lyrics:
There's a new sun
Risin' up angry in the sky
And there's a new voice
Crying "We're not afraid to die!"
Let the old world make believe
It's blind and deaf and dumb
But nothing can change the shape of things to come

There are changes
Lying ahead in every road
And there are new thoughts
Ready and waiting to explode
When tomorrow is today
The bells may toll for some
But nothing can change the shape of things to come

The future's coming in, now
Sweet and strong
Ain't no-one gonna hold it back for long

There are new dreams
Crowding out old realities
There's revolution
Sweeping in like a fresh new breeze
Let the old world make believe
It's blind and deaf and dumb
But nothing can change the shape of things
Nothing can change the shape of things
Nothing can change the shape of things
Nothing can change the shape of things to come

  1. OFF-TOOIC, but IMPORTANTL

Today is PALM SUNDAY, and no one –– including me –– has seen fit to blog on it, although the story posted at my blog –– Stephen Vincent Benet's By the Waters of Babylon –– could with a little imagination easily be construed as an appropriate commentary on Passion Week.

The insolent rejection of Jesus Christ followed by His suffering, death and Resurrection always takes on new meaning as we continue to spurn His Example by disrespecting, badgering, beating, tormenting, torturing and murdering each other in wholesale lots.

Abandoning our faith just because the Secular World no longer regards it as either fashionable or appropriate for public contemplation is the WORST thing we could do to orselves.

The joyous triumph of Easter has no meaning without the Passion. Passion Week should remind us all of how badly we treat one another through misunderstanding, too much eagenerss to find fault, and the unholy joy we take in finding reasons to despise, mock, reject and condemn one another just as the Pharisees did our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

A week of penitience, prayer and sober reflection on our sins and shortcomings is certainly approriate NOW more than EVER.

  2. _____ Sometimes a March Hare _____

Traipsing through the meadows fields and glens
    Harvey-like, this happiest of hares
Enjoys the fame he owns, It’s linked with hens.
Easter’s oval gems, his brightest wares,
Astonish children with their vivid hues.
    Specimens by jeweler Fabergé,
Those tiny triumphs of elitist views,
Enchant adults, but no real warmth convey.
Richer is the creature with long ears,
Belov’d by little children far and wide.
Unseen, some say unreal, his presence cheers
Nonetheless. His charm can’t be denied.
Nourishing the need for joy and wonder
Yields confidence unshaken e’en by thunder.

  3. I love those old movies, the fashions, cars, interior designs...

I went to IMDB to look up the movie, and it occurred to me that the generation that ushered in the "cult of youth" is now in their 60's and 70's.

    1. The "cult of youth" at least as "Wild in the Streets" (not very good film) presents it, chronicles the age old youth fascination with pop idols (not that it's limited to youth as tRump demonstrates).
Not new but enhanced by technology and the markets understanding of how to make a buck from it.

I believe AOW meant the film to serve as a cautionary tale after yesterday's march but I didn't see any idols or manipulation yesterday. It seemed to me more a legitimate expression of youth's concern. They certainly weren't "wild in the streets".

Interesting to see if it gets out the youth vote for the midterms.

    2. You don't see ANYTHING worth seeing, Canardo, because you have very skillfully been rendered DEAF, BLIND and INSENSATE to anything that smacks of TRUTH.

Either you are a VICTIM of Cultural Marxist conditioning, OR you are one of SATAN'S assistant DEMONS –– a true denizen of Hell.

Because i am by nature charitable, and therefore inclined to give the benefit of the doubt, –– even to the likes of you ––, I'd much prefer to think of you as a just another duped-dope –– a VICTIM of the campaign of utterly vlle SOPHISTY that long ago overtook the nation.

However, either way it doesn't matter since RESULTS are ALL that COUNT. Unwitting or not, you have lived as a devoted, highly effective Servant of Satan. I hope you awaken to the error of your ways in time to save yourself from Eternal Damnation.

    4. Where would the Society of the Spectacle BE w/o their entertainers?

Debord traces the development of a modern society in which authentic social life has been replaced with its representation: "All that once was directly lived has become mere representation."[2] Debord argues that the history of social life can be understood as "the decline of being into having, and having into merely appearing."[3] This condition, according to Debord, is the "historical moment at which the commodity completes its colonization of social life."[4]

The spectacle is the inverted image of society in which relations between commodities have supplanted relations between people, in which "passive identification with the spectacle supplants genuine activity". "The spectacle is not a collection of images," Debord writes, "rather, it is a social relationship between people that is mediated by images."

    5. No manipulation?
      Who funded it?
      Who bused 'em in?
Who's using 'em in the mid terms?

    6. Farmer, if you were paying attention you know that the speeches were largely by shooting survivors.

Ed in the case of Boston the Florida students flew in on a plane donated by the New England Patriots. I didn't know Bob Kraft had it in him.
But you think it's all planned in advance by Soros, correct? Wouldn't be surprised if you thought Soros bought Cruz his rifle.

Who's using the issue in the mid terms? Not the R's.
Here's hoping it gets out the youth vote which is likely to be majority anti-tRump.

    7. Gotta give props to Democrats; they know how to do the pathos-based propaganda.

Democrats also seem to thrive on being out of power.

They ginned up the fake Trump-Russia thing, used it to hobble his presidency from day one and take Sessions out, ceding control of Justice to Obama appointees. Diabolically Brilliant!

And last Thursday, Donald's former besties Schmucky and Nancy were all gloat and smiles over the record-smashing budget that gave them -- the minority party --- everything they had dreamed of.

When Democrats take over the House this November, they will impeach President Trump, and they will do it with significant GOP support.

We may disagree with the Democrat agenda, but they know how to ram it through.

The GOP is a national embarrassment. President Trump signing that Democrat Dream budget that Republicans McConnell and Ryan ushered to his desk just negated any further reasons to ever vote Republican again.

Trump, McConnell and Ryan just gave The Swamp a massive refill.

Fie on them all, and when "Fie on" I really mean another word not fit for this fine forum.

  4. Washington Times: Former Vice President Joe Biden boasted to a crowd of University of Miami students Tuesday that he would have “beat the hell out of” President Trump in high school.

Speaking during an anti-sexual assault rally at the private university in Coral Gables, the Democrat mentioned Mr. Trump’s infamous “Access Hollywood” recording that captured the real estate mogul talking in 2005 about being able to get away with groping women because of his fame.

“A guy who ended up becoming our national leader said, ‘I can grab a woman anywhere and she likes it,’” Mr. Biden told the crowd. “They asked me if I’d like to debate this gentleman, and I said ‘no.’ I said, ‘If we were in high school, I’d take him behind the gym and beat the hell out of him.’

“I’ve been in a lot of locker rooms my whole life,” he continued. “I’m a pretty damn good athlete. Any guy that talked that way was usually the fattest, ugliest S.O.B. in the room.”
In an era where Democrats are so inspired by violent rhetoric to actually take up guns and attempt to assassinate Republicans, do we really need a former Vice President suggesting that violence is the answer?

Please don't forget, Ed, that women are not really WOMEN anymore. They've been transformed by the Feminazi Movement and now must be regarded as our mortal ENEMY.

NOT your mother, NOT your wife, but WOMEN in general.

      Disbelieve that at your peril.

    1. Oh no! It began LONG before you –– or even I –– were born. The roots go very deep.

Elvis and all his rotten ilk that followed –– was in fact The Begnning of the End Game. Societal infantilization, degredation, and moral degeneration has been shockingly rapid and, apparently, unstoppable ever since Elvis arrived on the scene.

Don't blame yourself, however. You –– like almost everyone else –– have been MANIPULATED into fulfilling a Master Plan hatched in the minds of a few evil geniuses.

Never forget that SATAN'S greatest accomplishment to date has been to convince the world into believe that he, Satan, does not exist.

Sadly, the vast majority of those who work sedulously to do SATAN'S bidding are completely unaware of profoundly evil forces with whom they are dealing.

So great and powerful is the treachery that has hypnotized them most of Satan's unwitting henchmen and handmaidens actually imagine they are doing GOOD!

  6. ON-TOPIC:

Sorry, I couldn't stomach watching even the complete TRAILER of Wild in the Streets. Having LIVED THROUGH the era when Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n Roll took over, and –– egged on by the ENEMEDIA and the the Screaming Roaring, Stinking, Bearded, Unwashed, Unkempt, Bad-Breathed minions of crypto-Marxism –– the so-called "Youth Culture" erupted in hysterical, raging, vicious power-mad rebellion on American campuses, as self-destructive, leftist-activist-inspired RIOTS broke out in several Negro Communities wreaking HAVOC across the land.

This was followed by the vicious journalistic coup d'état known as "Watergate," and PRESTO! an entire Civilization was transformed into a MANIACAL, SUICIDAL DEATH CULT overnight –– and to add insult to injury –– all this was done in the name of "PROGRESS!"

    <
I speak as a genuine EYEWITNESS to HISTORY. I saw these depredations happen with my very own eyes in real time. I never have and never will find them acceptable. They have blighted my entire adult existence, though thankfully I've managed to live well IN SPITE OF the hideous megatrends foisted on us by out-of-control Cultural Marxism. That's only because I have been able tocling to my faith, however, which in turn has enabled me to rely on The Sustaining Infinite –– something anyone could do, if he put his mind to it.

    ____________ Elation for Days____________

Speak quietly. It helps to soothe the nerves.
Yelling –– any harshness –– is abrasive ––
An agitating force no one deserves
    Denying peace, obnoxious and invasive.
Refresh the soul with calm, sweet introspection.
Opening the mind clears out the dross.
    Find serenity under prayer’s direction.
Needs depart, as does the pain of loss,
Only when we lift our thoughts to Heaven.
Images of all that’s bright and clean
Transcend gloom and sagging spirits leaven,
As on the rock of Truth we safely lean.
    Leave resentment, fear, distrust behind;
Endure with patience, and sweet peace you’ll find.

  9. Only an advanced and prosperous society could indulge in the absurdity that children have something to teach us or that they should lead us.

Yes, there were points in history where a youth or youths rose up to save their moribund, stupid or fearful elders, but those are rare and dramatic events.

What have any of these students said that we haven't heard before? What new information or piece of wisdom have they imparted?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It may not be anything we haven't heard before, but "The duty of youth is to challenge corruption" -- (I thought this was a reassuringly high-brow quote, but it turns out to have originated with Kurt Cobain! -- I love Nirvana, so fine). I don't think the students claim novelty; thoughtful ones would claim instead that the gun lobby has corrupted the political process, and that they (the students) are untainted by it.

      Delete
    2. Love Kurt Cobain--Big grunge fan.

My only addition would be to expand the view a little.

The (fill in the blank) lobby has corrupted the political process.

As a lifetime NRA member I am biased, but the NRA is standing for a constitutional right, and I would love for someone to point out exactly who the NRA has corrupted and how they did it.

      Delete
    3. I agree.
My opinion of the NRA is not very informed, but the most troubling thing I've read about is the Dickey amendment.

      Delete
    4. Dickey Amendment was a ham-fisted attempt to block a politically-motivated, ideology-driven "government study" crafted to drive an anti-gun agenda.

      # of gun perpetrators/# of gun owners renders a very unsatisfactory result, so they need to mine other territory which renders tautological results like "homes with guns experience more gun violence."

That's right up there with people traveling in cars experience more automobile-related injuries...

      Another interesting factoid:

"Each year, there is 1 child killed by a gun for every 1 million-plus guns. Again, in a country with an estimated 200 million guns (at the time of the 2005 book), this means that roughly 175 children under ten die each year from guns."

      http://jacksonandwilson.com/which-is-more-dangerous-a-gun-or-a-swimming-pool/

      http://freakonomics.com/2006/04/16/are-you-ready-for-swimming-pool-season/

Also missing from the overall picture: Child deaths by firearm are tragically concentrated in violent urban neighborhoods, as is overall gun violence.

      Delete
    5. Apologies, I missed the punchline:

More children die from pool drownings than die from guns:

Looking at the numbers, the likelihood of death by pool (1 in 11,000) versus death by gun (1 in 1 million-plus) isn’t even close. Children under the age of ten are far more likely to die in swimming accidents that by guns.

That doesn't close out the gun control crowd, but it does add needed perspective.

  10. Dorothy Parker, who was a Socialist, wrote this long ago, and certainly did not intend it as a threnody for an America that was not yet lost. I see in it, however, an exquisite elegiac evocation of what has happened to the glorious vision of our Founding Fathers –– how we murdered the Dream then systematically threw away its remains. The disgusting movie and cacophonous music AOW supplied i=n this post are excellent examlpes of how corrupt, depraved, perverse, demented and viciously self-destructive we have become.

    __________ A Dream Lies Dead __________

A dream lies dead here. May you softly go
Before this place, and turn away your eyes,
Nor seek to know the look of that which dies
Importuning Life for life. Walk not in woe,

But, for a little, let your step be slow.
And, of your mercy, be not sweetly wise
With words of hope and Spring and tenderer skies.
A dream lies dead; and this all mourners know:

Whenever one drifted petal leaves the tree ––
Though white of bloom as it had been before
And proudly waitful of fecundity ––
    One little loveliness can be no more;

And so must Beauty bow her imperfect head
Because a dream has joined the wistful dead!

  11. Yesterday the Cities streets of America were filled with Public School, and High School students alonf with their parents many of them who were haveold enough to even know what the hell they were there for. But their Pussy Hat Mothers took them there to “Make a Stand”. Was that the right thing to do?
Who knows. But if you ask me my opinion, I’d say No it wasn’t. Yes I guess that the older kids knew what it was all about, and if they truely felt like the cause was the right thing to do, then by all means do it.
But fir the Mothers to drag their little ones there to Brainwash them at that young impressionable age, definitely NO?

And after seeing, and reading some of those VILE, DISGUSTING signs that these Mothers, and Kids were holding, I wished these kids would have stuck to eating Tide Pods.

One Proud Mom, marched with her Kid who could.’t have been more that 7, or 8 years old holding a sign that read “Fuck the NRA”. I’d be willing to bet that poor kid didn’t even know what the NRA is! How cruel is that! And I really think that Mother should have been arrested for Child Abuse! But the Mom was really feeling Proud!
It was very clear to see from those pictures that these kids are being exploited by the "Progressive Left" Mothers. . In their Liberal fantasy that guns would suddenly disappear because of their March.

Maybe instead of marching to take away our Constitutional Rights those people need to be marching in Chicago, Philly, New York City, and Baltimore or any other Democratic ghetto .to protest the ineffective Liberal leadership, where people ar shooting each other like they did in the Western movies. . Every weekend in Chicago about the same number of people are killed as happened in Parkland, Florida. On a holiday weekend even more or shot and killed. Do you really think that these shooters are NRA members? Or Law abiding citizens? Do you think that these shooters give a damn about Gun Control, or Gun Laws?
To day almost every Rapper walks around with a gun, do you think that they give a Rats Ass, about your Marching, and Parading around with your stupid Pussy Hats?.

Maybe we should all make signs saying "THIS IS A GUN FREE HOME". And see if the Bad Guys will stay away!

  13. From The Stupidity of the 'March For Our Lives':

The virtue signaling over one’s disagreement with “A March For Our Lives” reached fever pitch with the culmination of Saturday’s event.

Yet a trend across social media seemed to be playing out. If someone criticized David Hogg, Alex Wind, or Emma Gonzales there was an immediate lashing out in response. These teens and two of their comrades appear on this week’s cover of TIME magazine. Two weeks ago they traveled to Dubai to be part of an international symposium on education. They have sucked up nearly every available second of possible air time on CNN & MSNBC (while obviously avoiding actual journalism.) They’ve also had ample amounts of cash and exposure thrown their way.

Saturday’s march was to be the pinnacle of this outrage movement that has largely been propped up by false pretense.

Hogg reminded everyone on Saturday that the hashtag for their cause is #NotOneMore. He then cited 96 gun deaths per day in America (not just of kids but of gun users of all ages.) Meanwhile in abortion clinics across America each day (according to the Guttmacher Institute - the research propaganda machine for Planned Parenthood) 2635 children’s lives are ended due to legal abortion.

The moral dissonance is deafening. The slogan is hypocritical. The icons are babies.

It’s time to stop manipulating them, allow them to finish their high school experience, and address the real issues.

    1. In this case 17 had their "high school experience" cut short violently.

Only an ass wouldn't consider that a "real" issue.

Where does the right find these bogus shills.

    2. Duck,
Here is something else to offend you:

...In this piece [in the NYT], Stevens got more facts wrong than right. He mistakenly assumed that a relatively small group of teenagers bought and paid for by far-left groups to attend a Washington D.C. rally speaks for a whole generation. They don't, unless all you watch is liberal news media.

He bought into the ridiculous assumption that whatever motivates young people to join a cause is the right thing for America. A more specious theory could not be introduced into serious debate. Why doesn't Stevens also recommend that the Constitution be amended to allow 18-year-olds to run for Congress, or the presidency? Who came up with the stodgy rule of 35 years old? If the Second Amendment is irrelevant, surely that rule is too, if you're going to encourage teens to lead us politically.

These kids can barely deal with a person of the opposite sex whispering things about them, or dumping them, without falling into a deep depression. They can hardly figure out what they want to do in six months. And now they're the defenders of our liberty?...

    1. The Obama's are dangerous people with a long life ahead of them. Lord help us.

The Obama Foundation will make the Clinton operation look like a taco truck with three flats and a kitchen fire.

    2. SF,
The Obama Foundation will make the Clinton operation look like a taco truck with three flats and a kitchen fire.

      That is my assessment, too.

Meanwhile, public schools, K-12, and public libraries are promoting worship of BHO.

      It's creepy.

How creepy? The little 3rd grader whom I tutor just coos the name "Obama" when she sees a library display of BHO or his wife. I know for a fact that her parents don't feel this way.

So, where is this little girl getting her brainwashing? The answer is obvious!

  15. , I would like to share a few thoughts about the events this past weekend. The media was of course falling all over themselves to cover the anti gun rallies, but not so much for conservative issues like the right to life. I heard a statistic this morning that the chance of a child being shot at school are 1 in 614,000,000, but the globalist gun grabbers won’t show those numbers. The same people who want to take your gun rights are the same that say nothing while thousands of babies are butchered yearly. The same people who were slapping high fives when they passed an abortion bill that allows babies to be murdered at twenty weeks. The death of an innocent child, or any person for that matter is terrible, and we should do anything possible to stop it from happening, but the idea of disarming law abiding citizens isn’t going to happen!! The same people who created this mess with gun free zones, and other ridiculous liberal ideas now want to take away our second amendment rights. Make no mistake that it’s far greater than removing the second amendment, but about destroying our republic period. When you see protesters ripping the constitution in pieces, and claiming the star spangled banner is racist, and should be banned I think that tells us all we need to know. It starts with taking away our gun rights, and afterwards the rest will follow. Make no mistake friends it’s not really about guns, but destroying America period! The mid term elections are drawing near, and are as important as ever. Do your due diligence, and encourage others to participate like our country depends on it, because it does!
