Musical Interlude

(For politics, please scroll down)

Composed by the master himself, Johann Sebastian Bach (hat tip to Grouchy Old Cripple):

According to the YouTube blurb (embedded links added):
[F]rom the Suite for the Lute BWV 995 in G Minor, played by Xavier Díaz-Latorre on a lute built by Grant Tomlinson.

This is a transcription made by Bach himself of his 5th Suite for Cello.

    1. Bunkerville,
      Glad that you liked it.

More and more, I’m needing a break from politics—although I do continue to slog on here at this blog and at Infidel Bloggers Alliance.

  2. It's a rare treat to hear the LUTE, –– an instrument associated more with the Renaissance than the Baroque era ––, these days. The guitar, which I believe developed from the lute, took over long ago.

From the large number of strings the lute has compared to the guitar I'd say it must be more difficult to play.

Julian Bream, who was featured here not long ago, made his reputation as both a guitarist AND a lutenist.

This player is good, but his playing doesn't have the pulsing rhythmic emphases a true gavotte requires. It is after all a DANCE form from the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

  3. Wonderful. And I'm embarrassed that I did not recognize the lute. Thanks, FA.
