    1. But you quote from The Fantasticks, a product of the 60's.

      You deserve the above reprimand!

    4. Franco,
By the mid-SICK-sties we were tobogganing downhill careening at breakneck speeds, and all the loveliness of my young years left never to return except in nostalgic waves of memory.

I must agree -- although, as you know, I enjoy some of the popular music (rock) from 1965-1980 or so.

    5. We'll be fine. Older folks have been bemoaning their bygone "better years" throughout recorded history. Forward progress ALWAYS meets with resistance and the feelings of "loss of a better time".

      Don't worry, be happy!

    6. Every so often, FreeThinke needs to be reminded that nostalgia is not a substitute for critical judgement and if I recall, The Fantasticks opened in the fall of 1960.

The late 50's and 60's were a great creative period that represented the freedom FreeThinke is always for. It's a big world. There's room for Ornette Coleman, Bach and Dylan. Unfortunately, under capitalism, good will drive out bad in a search to maximize profit.

    7. ... oh by the way FreeThinke, a number of pundits mark he 1958 Monterey Jazz Festival as the start of the 60's.

    12. Duck,
So say certain pundits -- as an afterthought, probably.

But the reality is that "the Sixties" didn't take hold until much later.

  4. Yes, and Mr. B especially enjoyed listening to it all after breakfast today. He heard these tunes in his home growing up.
