Things Democrats Have Funded that Cost More than the Border Wall: Lawmakers have put less thought into other, more expensive projects over the years
After President Trump requested $5.7 billion to fund the border wall he campaigned on in 2016, Democrats have dug in, refusing to appropriate the funds that the administration says are needed to better manage the flow of immigration across the southern border.
Democrats are not traditionally known for their fiscal rectitude but are particularly parsimonious over what ultimately amounts to a very small percentage of the federal budget. (In 2018, the feds spent $4.173 trillion overall, meaning the border wall would amount to just 1/10th of 1 percent of current annual federal spending.)
Indeed, these lawmakers have happily funded various projects over the years that cost far more than the border wall — and many of which had very questionable value. Below are some examples of wasteful federal spending projects that individually cost more than the proposed border wall (data courtesy of Citizens Against Government Waste):
— “Rural Utility Service.” This program costs taxpayers $8.2 billion/year and has no actual purpose after its original intent — bringing electricity to rural communities — was long ago achieved. It’s now being used to bring broadband access to small communities (usually with populations of less than 20,000). However there’s no indication the “beneficiaries” of this expensive government agency actually appreciate the program, and the majority of its projects are not completed on time or within budget.
— Sugar Subsidies. America, as Democrats frequently intone, faces a health crisis. What they don’t tell us is that it’s largely of their own making, as Congress subsidizes the production of unhealthy foods like sugar and high-fructose corn syrup. Eliminating sugar subsidies alone would save $6 billion, enough to fund the border wall; it would also have the added benefit of helping curb the nation’s obesity epidemic.
— Community Development Grants. These grants were created in the 70s to revitalize failing American cities. The program has almost always been plagued with dysfunction, with grants going to wealthy communities and other recipients failing to produce “accountability and results.” Citizens Against Government Waste reports that even President Obama called for reining in the program. It’s elimination would save $15 billion over 5 years.
— The United Nations. As the United Nation’s largest contributor, the U.S. in 2016 donated $10 billion to the U.N. As CAGW notes, reducing these contributions just 25 percent would create a savings of $12.5 billion over 10 years. Of the money Congress appropriates for the United Nations, $5 million taxpayer dollars are itemized for abortions in foreign countries.
— Unused Real Estate. Congress appropriates money to maintain federal real estate that’s not actually being used. Per CAGW, an October 31, 2017, CRS report found that, “In FY2016, federal agencies owned 3,120 buildings that were vacant (unutilized), and another 7,859 that were partially empty (underutilized).” Current laws require the government to undergo a series of steps before considering a sale of these buildings. Were selling this unused property prioritized, the 5-year savings are estimated at $15 billion. Simply maintaining the unused buildings annually costs $1.7 billion.
Despite many of of the above projects having arguably negative value, Congress continues to fund them. Eliminating any one of the above would create more than enough savings to fund the White House’s border wall appropriation request.
Of course, other smaller federal spending projects are even more wasteful. Examples abound, but here are a few that are at least amusing:
— The feds spend $613,634 to boost “intimacy and trust” of transgender women and their male partners (The Washington Free Beason)
— The feds spent $5 million paying hipsters to stop smoking and then blog about it (as well as use cool anti-smoking swag — like beer koozies). (Readers Digest)
— Northwestern University has received more than $3 million in National Institutes of Health to watch hamster fights. “Some of those experiments involved injecting hamsters with steroids, then putting another hamster in the cage to see if the drugged rodents were more aggressive when protecting their territory. This program has since been halted following protests from animal rights activists,” Readers Digest reports.
— The feds spend $1,009,762 training “social justice” math teachers (The Washington Free Beacon)
— “The government spent at least $518,000 in federal grants to study how cocaine affects the sexual behavior of Japanese quails,” Readers Digest reports.
— The Federal Register is legally required to be printed daily and distributed to Congressional offices despite most never being read and all of the information being available online. Stopping this unnecessary printing would save $1 million a year.

Scripps College, a prestigious women’s school outside Los Angeles, is promoting the idea that non-white students must be given monetary compensation for the “emotional labor” of having to deal with so-called microaggressions.
Campus resident assistants at the school are hanging up two sets of posters titled “Emotional Labor 101”: one for whites, and another for minorities, whom the posters dub as “victims of emotional labor.”

The posters mirror what you might find on social media—where social justice warriors often demand financial recompense for calling people out, and yell at others to “educate themselves” when taken to task for their statements.

Well, life in America these days, you can’t escape the whiny, howling chorus emanating from that latest Progressive Pop act, The Butthurt Bawlers from Hilloonville.
They still refuse to grasp reality and admit Hillary lost. President Obama said she was on the right side of history! So they comfort themselves with alt-reality fairy tales about how Russian Spymaster Boris Badinoff “infiltrated” and “hacked” the election with “fake news” while Steve Bannon rallied the millions of Klan voters.
Like a poo-throwing child in a tantrum, they fling blame in all directions: Racism, sexism, old white people, that recently-uncovered secret cabal called the Electoral College...
Certain "educators" in the UK have pronounced Disney films as evil and have available to them lessons plans condemning various beloved Disney films.

Pupils taught Disney fairy tales promote sexism and domestic violence in online lesson plan
For centuries, children have grown up with Beauty and the Beast, which tells the story of how a cursed man-beast is transformed into a handsome prince when an evil spell is broken by the love of a beautiful and gentle young girl.
But now pupils as young as 11 are being taught that loyal heroine Belle is in an abusive relationship with the Beast in which "her only asset is her sexuality".
A lesson plan available on a teaching resource sharing website reads: "The Beast does not attack Belle but the threat of physical violence is present.
"The movie says if a woman is pretty and sweet natured she can change an abusive man into a kind and gentle man.
"In other words, it is the woman's fault if her man abuses her. And of course, the beast turns into a handsome prince because ugly people cannot be happy."
Belle is just one of the Disney favourites portrayed as scheming bimbos who boost macho ideas about female slavery by their willingness to do anything to get a man.
Others include The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin's Princess Jasmine, and Snow White - branded a domestic skivvy for the seven dwarves.
"She doesn't mind house work because she is sure a rich young man will soon come and take her away," children are told.
"This is typical of Disney's movies. Young women are naturally happy home-makers. They wait - like Snow White in her coma - until a man comes along to give them life."

The lesson plan called Racism/Sexism in Disney, targetted at 11 to 16-year-olds, was uploaded by an unknown teacher in England for lessons such as RE and Citizenship.
It has been viewed more than 11,000 times and downloaded more than 5,808 times.
Phil Davies, the Tory MP for Shipley, West Yorkshire, said: "Parents will be horrified to think that their children are being brainwashed with this politically correct claptrap.
"Most parents send their kids to school to learn about maths, science and history - not to be brainwashed with garbage like this.
"The Government should stop this idiocy and ensure schools teach things that parents expect."...

An entire week spent on watching an animated film instead of spent on reading classics or writing compositions! In Honors English! This was the breaking point for a particular student whom I know: she refused to return to school and is now homeschooled.
Calling for recounts with timing so precise as to deny the states where the (unnecessary) recounts occur, the ability to respond in time to certify the election BEFORE the College of Electors meets is not like a 5 year old playing with a Glock 22.
Hillary Clinton's OBVIOUS involvement in a recount which cannot be completed before the electors meet represents a willingness to begin the complete, and irreversible erosion of American faith in the presidential vote. Exactly, by the way, what the desperate democrats claims the Russian hacked and un-denied wikileaks was trying to do as the agent of IVAN.
[Because of the timing] the day [may arrive] that the electors can certify only 260 of Trump's electoral votes while recounts remain uncompleted...

San Diego State University on Tuesday hosted a “Healing Circle” to help students process their confusion, anger and fear over Donald Trump’s election and develop ways to stand against “injustice,” according to organizers.
The circle drew roughly 20 participants, a student who attended the session told The College Fix. Students sat at tables facing each other as facilitators talked them through the fact that they needed to come to grips with the election results, similar to the stages of grief.

Marketed as an event for “moving forward together,” students attending the event would learn about the “mental health and community-based resources” available to them following the election.

While the circle only drew a handful of students, the day after Election Day, hundreds of SDSU students took to the quad to protest Trump’s victory.

The University of Michigan-Flint, Virginia Tech, Columbia University, Barnard College, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Iowa State, UC Santa Cruz, University of Pennsylvania, Rice University, UT-Austin, George Mason and many others have offered similar support to grieving students.
What are these whiny babies [aka fragile little snowflakes] going to do when, in the course of their lives, actual personal tragedy and grief strike them? Very, very few who walk this earth manage to escape devastating personal grief.
Furthermore, "healing circles" don't accomplish anything other than feeding a victimology mindset.
These young people need to get a job instead of taking up space at a university. They are simply too immature to be attending an institution of higher learning. They need to grow up before embarking on what is touted to be "higher education."
Student C: It is not about creating an intellectual space! It is not! Do you understand that? It’s about creating a home here! You are not doing that. You’re going against that.

On November 5, 2015, students at Yale University gathered on campus to protest an email sent by Associate Master of Silliman College Erika Christakis on October 30. Christakis’ email responded to a separate email from the school’s Intercultural Affairs Council that asked students to be thoughtful about the cultural implications of their Halloween costumes.
Christakis [advocating freedom of expression with regard to Halloween costumes] argued that the council’s email [emphasizing sensitivities with regard to Halloween costumes] was infantilizing and threatened free expression on campus. There was also a concern that because the email was long, detailed, had 13 signatories, and links to acceptable and unacceptable costumes, it would not be interpreted as a suggestion. But rather it had the “color of law” implicit within it.
FIRE President and CEO Greg Lukianoff was on Yale’s campus during the protests on November 5 and captured this footage on his cell phone of Christakis’ husband, Nicholas, meeting with the protestors. By the time Lukianoff arrived on the scene, Nicholas had been speaking with the protesters for about an hour.
The Washington Post reports that students have begun to organize formal demands for the resignation of Christakis and her husband.
