Such is the state of our nation.  

We scream at — and past — each other when we subscribe to opposing ideologies.

"I'm right!" screams one commenter.

"No!  I'm right!" screams the other commenter.

Sheesh.

What grade level are these exchanges?  There are multiple such exchanges to almost every blog post.

Are we Americans losing the ability to think and to engage in reasoned debate?

Last week, commenter Jayhawk stated the following at Silverfiddle's February 2, 2022 post "Free Speech," here at Always On Watch (emphases mine):

First of all, being offended is a state of mind which originates within the mind of the person who is offended. It has no external causes, it originates within, and its causes lie in the person's biases, preferences and fears.

If I become offended after you utter a sentence, it is because I choose to become offended. You do not control my mind. You cannot create my state of mind. You cannot control my emotions. If you dispute this you have a very serious living problem. You are doomed to be incapable of living in society.

You may use language that is designed to make me take offense. You may be deliberately trying to create a certain state of anger or offense in my reaction, but I always have the right not to do what you want me to do. I can respond by NOT being offended. I don't have to become offended just because you want me to.

Secondly, if my peace of mind, my self image and/or my self esteem is dependent on your actions, lack of actions or speech, then I am the worst sort of prisoner. It means I have to control you, which is an utterly hopeless proposition. It means that I have to control each and every person with whom I come in contact. Just stop and think of the sheer insanity of that idea.

Further, it also means that every person who comes into contact with me must be allowed to control my speech and actions to assure their peace of mind, self image and/or self esteem. So we have a society of 235 [sic] million people, all frantically trying to control each other. Not really a viable proposition.   

What we have is a social fabric of people frantically trying to control everybody else so that they do not have to control themselves.

Think about the above for a few moments.  

What a terrible world it would be if everyone were the same, with the same exact opinions!  

We would all be cookie cutter images that match each other: housing, vehicles, clothing, music, visual arts, ideology, etc. 

Cue The Twilight Zone's "Eye of the Beholder" and its dystopian view of the future — this time a dystopian view of the concept of human physical attractiveness:

Long live differences!  They are part of what makes us human!

I would not want the sun to set at the end of today with anyone on the right thinking that the reality of the present has only recently manifested itself. Have we forgotten that when the American people rejected socialism almost as frequently as they rejected William Jennings Bryan, that the socialist leaders announced, in the late 1940s, that they intended to seize our education system so that they could grow their own future socialists? Well, they have. Generation after generation has been the subject of leftist brainwashing in disguise of education. It is today too late to save America from herself. The misery of future generations is already guaranteed. America is already destroyed. Biden is proof of that — he and the tens of millions of people who subscribe to the foolish arguments of the new left. A new America will arise from this chaos: one whose flag will have a hammer and sickle in one corner and a raised black fist in the other. Welcome to the new Kenya, folks. The inmates have taken over the asylum. 

Is Mustang correct in his assertions, particularly that there is no hope for the future of our republic? And if there is hope to counter what Mustang informs us has taken place, how exactly can we bring that hope to fruition?

...De Blasio says, with all the people leaving NYC, that we need to raise taxes on the rich AND “we have to redistribute income.” How about YOURS, your honor? He just announced he’d furlough his salary, but I suspect it’s a rebound from the terrible optics of “redistributing income.” To quote from his Wikipedia page: he did “a brief stint as a campaign manager for Charles Rangel and Hillary Clinton …[and] started his career as an elected official on the New York City Council. So your career never took you into the real world of working for a living. 

 Plus, he said restaurants would continue to be closed for indoor dining (only very reduced sidewalk dining), because dining out was “an activity for middle- and upper-income New Yorkers.” Really? Are these higher income folks the ones who 1) shop for the menu, 2) deliver food and supplies, 3) cook the food 4) serve the food, 5) bus the dishes, 6) wash the dishes, 7) clean up the restaurant, 8) ferry diners to the restaurant, 9) service the equipment, and 10) grow the food in the first place? CLUELESS!! 

We hear stories of people who stayed not working because the combined state and federal unemployment benefit (of which I received ZERO) was more than their salary. Then I ran into one. My locksmith had to furlough his helper in April. When he could work again and asked him to come back to work, he did not want to – and didn’t. It was because he made a lot more in gov’t $$$....

I live in such a town - Soviet Monica. Crime (and vagrancy) is up, WAY UP, since the Crime Train is bringing boatloads more freeloaders into town. People are disgusted. We have to protect and defend ourselves. Government has abandoned that function in all but name only.

We ALSO contribute a lot to the private rehab agencies, but I'm not interested in YOU unless you want to take a step in the right direction. Don't expect free lodging and a latrine in MY yard. You can be willing to straighten up and move in the right direction and we'll help.

Our city actually threatened fines/jail to ordinary people like me who wash the filth away -- for spreading disease! What do they expect us to do, lick it up? My garage door guy wears a mask when he works in this area because of all the stench of urine which signals disease that he is working among.

Mueller, in the end, after making his retirement money (for himself and his cronies), and lacking ANY evidence, finally folded his tent and the aspirations of the Deep State and the Corrupt Media are weeping (more) bitter tears. The Russia collusion narrative is dead even though pawns like Adam Schiff (D-CA) will continue to beat the drum because it's the only drum they have.

Russia, military in decline, reduced to a regional power with a nuclear arsenal, is doing its best to follow a Russia First agenda, and why shouldn't they? China is having some money problems but it's still promoting its belt road agenda, and the US is energy and food independent, steel industry back in business.

President Trump has revealed disastrous trade deals with China, Japan, Korea and Europe is re-mapping how business is to be done and the Deep State trembles. All that money in bribes stopped. All those plans to weaken the US have been put on hold. Such a pity -- all that plotting, waiting and hoping that somebody like Beto or the fake Indian will capture the imagination of the voters. Somebody who can read the message of his/her handlers from a teleprompter the way that Barack did.

Last year, one of my clients, a dyed-in-the-wool member of the Democrat Party, said to me, with feigned sorrow, "I'm sorry. But Trump is going to be removed from office."  You see, she really believed the drumbeat she heard every day on MSNBC and The View.

And there are millions more like my former client.

I wonder....How long before more screaming at the sky commences?

Let the nervous breakdowns begin!

Nancy Pelosi said that the Democratic win of the House was “All about stopping the GOP.” Perhaps. I think it was all about stopping the will of half of the American people from realizing their hopes for our future. For those on the left who claim that their agenda was about healthcare, it is pure eyewash. The healthcare system we have now is the healthcare system adopted unilaterally by the Democrats in 2008. I should note that it was mere moments after the close of elections that Pelosi stepped to the microphone and began lying —which is something she does without batting an eye. There are unresolved issues —most of these as a result of a RINO House the day before yesterday. We won’t see a wall any time soon; we will not have a solution to the immigration problem, we will not solve the question of birthright citizenship. The can gets kicked down the lane a bit further.

There are a few things that we should remember about our political system. First, America has a very large political tent with room for all kinds of people; even a place for idiots like Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez. The second thing to remember is that the founding fathers set up the House of Representatives as a place where the voice of the people could be heard, but one in which, given the passions of politics, turns over every two years. In other words, the people can rid themselves of House idiots rather quickly. The founders intended that the Senate is a more mature, reasoned, less emotional chamber. There are snakes in the senate, of course, but they are less viperous than those in the House.

Still, I think it is interesting to note that the top of the Democratic Party in the Senate consists of Harris, Feinstein, Gillibrand, Warren, Sanders, Menendez, and Schumer. We should conclude these people represent the new face of the Democratic Party: progressive communists all.

One quick note about the Georgia gubernatorial contest. Did any of Stacy Abram’s supporters understand her platform, and did they support her for her high-taxes, anti-gun, pro-illegal immigration, sanctuary state positions? No one will support higher taxes unless they personally benefit from it. Abram’s base of support was Atlanta; they voted for her because she’s black; it is a corruption of our political system. Most black people in Atlanta, or so it seems, have forgotten what Martin Luther King, Jr., had to say about character.

Well, Trump will have his hands full, but he’s up for it … and I think he actually relishes the challenges of a radically leftist House. In fact, I think these mid-term election results suit Mr. Trump just fine. So now we begin the road to the general election in 2020. Politics, it seems, never goes away … 

Already, the mainstream media's 2020 agenda is apparent as evidenced by President Trump's press conference on November 7, 2018 (the day after the 2018 midterm elections).

At seven-point-five decades, I may already be safely under ground when the debt tsunami hits, but my grandkritters and their lot will be forced to pay for the mismanagement of thousands of politicians who tried to run cities on splenda, states on saccharine, and nations on nutrasweet.

Our entitlement systems, whether the leftistas choose to believe it or not, are not sustainable unless we discover the trick to turning hot air into gold. As Hamlet tells us: “I eat the air, promise-crammed. You cannot feed capons so.”

[T]he hospital in [Madrid] was using BL2 respiratory protection for a BL4 virus, and the nursing union in Madrid sent letters to the authorities months back telling them that if anyone was treated for Ebola in Spain, the hospitals wouldn't be adequately prepared, and that people were going to get infected as a result of inadequate equipment.

Short of hitting them upside the head with a tire iron, the medical workers did everything possible to tell the authorities how badly they were screwing the pooch.

The response from those authorities was to send the dog flowers afterwards, and point out the dog was asking for it.

Are we doing any better here in the United States?

I am white, and was taken to USA by my parents as legal immigrants. Never saw a black person till I arrived in USA as a ten year old. Within 3 months, my mother was hit on her head with a blackjack by a black during a robbery, and I was miserable in school , little language and a lot of blacks who like piranha attacked only in groups. The whites were neutered, either acting out and imitating the blacks, or living in fear.

This was so different from the country I moved from that I was shocked. The only kids I could deal with were other recent immigrants, black and white, with a kid who recently arrived from Jamaica being one.. that is until 10th grade when all of a sudden after summer he became ‘racially aware’, returned with his hair in corn rows, pretending he didn’t know me, and calling me cracker. At that point I found a small group of friends and we helped each other survive this hellish experience.

I became a professional, never having the benefit of being of the white race, since my accent and lack of familiarity with baseball or football , and no recruiter ever gave me a wink to let me know that as a fellow member of the white race , I was in like Flynn. No license to oppress ever arrived, but oppression there was, against me. To make a long story short. Twenty five years after I arrived to these shores, I left them , now 5 years ago. No, I didn’t move back to the country I came from. I moved to a country in Asia, a continent where my white skin is not a source of shame but a source of envy by locals who consider it a sign of wealth , since it shows I didn’t spend my days in the sun working on a rice field.

Despite Americans bombing this country , nobody is angry at me , demands reparations of me, assaults me, disrespects me, and I live peacefully with my neighbors despite some people making less than $100/month. I haven’t seen an angry black or latino in years, and it feels sooooo good to be able to walk the streets free of flash-mobs, or packs of black piranhas on the prowl for a cracker to crunch. My only regret was not leaving America sooner to the insane , self-loathing, liberal progressive liars and their multicultural sheeple.

Meanwhile, this morning the mainstream media are so thrilled that Michelle Obama appeared at yesterday's Oscar Awards and, a day or so earlier, danced with Jimmy Fallon.

Politics And Mental Health

A few weeks ago, Indigo Red left the comment below to this thread here at Always On Watch (emphases mine):

The roots of the current problem go all the way back to the Eugenics Movement that spawned the Holocaust and Planned Parenthood.

"It is true Gov Reagan did gut funding for state mental hospitals, but was forced to do so by court decisions ruling that the mental health patients could not be confined without patient consent or due process. Previously, people could be detained and institutionalized for any number of reasons and often for no good reason.

In an attempt to find alternatives to the eugenics movement that contributed so much to the Holocaust, a federal mental health study was begun in 1955 resulting in the 1963 Mental Health Act as part of John Kennedy's New Frontier. From this came multiple court decisions emancipating the mentally ill from the vagaries of the law and the shame of families with mentally ill members. Because the decisions were Federal and states are always trying to save local money, the Federal gov't then became the funding agency of first resort while states cut back on local funding. The Federal budget was not large enough to cover all the new fiscal demands of the new found mental health gold mine limited the resources to the states. (Lesson for ObamaCare.)

While Reagan was governor (1967-75), a Federal court ruled in Jackson v. Indiana (1972) that due process required the commitment for mental health treatment also required adequate and appropriate treatment must be provided - the mentally ill could no longer be warehoused for the safety of themselves and society, they must be treated in preparation for release to the general population and several lower courts recognized the due process right of the mentally ill. In that same year, Gov Reagan signed the Lanterman–Petris–Short Act effectively doing what the O'Connor v. Donaldson ruling would do nationwide in 1975. The LPS bill had bipartisan support and was widely lauded by the left as a civil rights masterpiece. The ACLU argued for the end of forced institutionalization of harmless insane people. Ronald Reagan argued just the opposite, but was compelled by the courts to release the harmless mentally ill without any guidance on what harmless meant after hospitalization and medication. It was, in fact, assumed that the mentally ill, when returned to sanity, lucidity, and reality, would voluntarily continue their treatment and medications never wanting to go back to crazy. Boy, were the experts ever wrong.

As President, Ronald Reagan repealed the Mental Health Systems Act by signing the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1981 consolidating ADAMHA's treatment and rehabilitation programs into a single block grant enabling each State to administer its own allocated funds. The repeal of the community mental health legislation and the establishment of block grants, the Federal role in mental health services changed once again from funding to providing technical assistance in increasing the local providers capacity for mental health services to a population of growing mental health concerns because of the continued redefining of and addition to mental health disorders.

Once the funding responsibilities of States had been taken up by the Federal government and the States having found other uses for the money formerly used for the mentally ill, States were reluctant and loathe to finding new State funding or dropping other programs to re-fund moribund mental health programs. And now we're stuck with mentally ill people without help, without the wherewithal to request help, and a society so increasingly frightened of the mentally ill they are threatening to disarm in the face of danger and at the same time take to the streets with pitchforks and torches to chase down and slay the monsters among us. What a fine mess good intentions have left us."

AOW, I have a cousin not much younger than myself who has been mentally ill for as long as I can recall. As a child he would beat his head against walls and his family thought it was cute as did schools and doctors. Eventually after many years in and out of prison and mental hospitals, and not being able to find adequate help, he took control of his life the only way he knew how - with a screw driver in his hand, he faced two police officers in an alley who shot him 7 times. He survived, but since that time almost 30 yrs ago, he has been in prison for psychiatric care. It's where he wanted to be -- or dead. He's been diagnosed as autistic and schizophrenic and had been before such diagnoses had been possible.

As the above words by Indigo Red indicate, the law of unintended consequences has reverberating effects that can direly affect society — effects that reap the whirlwind.

Now, how do we remedy this mess? Or CAN we remedy this mess and, at the same time, safeguard individuals' rights?

The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting an inexperienced man like him with the Presidency.  It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America.  Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince.  The Republic can survive a Barack Obama. It is less likely to survive a multitude of Idiots such as those who made him their president.
