Easter Sunday Jihad In Ohio?

The complete article in the Star Beacon, dated April 10, 2013 (emphases mine):
Easter Sunday Ashtabula murder case bound over to grand jury: More disturbing details come out about that day

ASHTABULA — The make of the gun, knives and the terror felt by Easter Sunday church-goers the day Reshad Riddle is accused of killing his father surfaced at his preliminary hearing Tuesday in Municipal Court.

City Solicitor Michael Franklin called three city police officers to the witness stand to share their recollections of what occurred after Riddle allegedly shot Richard Riddle at point blank range outside of Hiawatha Church of God in Christ. Riddle has been charged with aggravated murder, having weapons under disability and carrying a concealed weapon.

After 45 minutes of testimony, Judge Albert Camplese said there was probable cause to send the case over to the Ashtabula County grand jury.

Riddle, 28, who appeared in shackles, an orange jail jumpsuit and a bullet-proof vest, sat at the defense table flanked by public defender Joseph Humpolick.

The first witness, Patrolman Jay Janek said when he arrived on the scene, the elder Riddle was on the ground bleeding profusely, with an obvious gunshot wound to the head.

“He was deceased,” Janek said.

Police found Reshad Riddle inside the church, standing at the podium, he said.

“He had the gun in the air,” Janek said. “He had several knives on him ... we later discovered the Koran on the podium.”

The second witness, Patrolman Thomas Clemens, said he was called to the church Easter Sunday for “a subject in the church waving a handgun.”

Upon arrival, he saw several people running from the church and several people crawling out the narrow windows.

“I pulled two children out of a window,” he said.

As Clemens sat on the witness stand describing the frantic church scene, Riddle calmly stroked his beard and smiled at a child sitting behind him in the courtroom. When Clemens was asked to identify the Easter Sunday shooter, Riddle gave Clemens a little wave.

Clemens testified that once officers transported Riddle to the city jail, they performed a Gunshot Residue Test on his hands.

“He admitted he used a Smith and Wesson .38 Special,” Clemens said. “He referred to the Koran and Allah, quoting passages.”

Upon cross-examination, Humpolick pushed for more details on Riddle’s statements.

Clemens said he wasn’t familiar with the Koran, but remembered Riddle had said he had “served his purpose.”

A third witness for the prosecution, Detective William Felt, said he was called into work at about 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Easter Sunday. His job was to interview Riddle at the Justice Center, he said.

“Riddle told me he shot his father with a Smith and Wesson .38 caliber revolver,” he said. “He said he wasn’t being respected by his father.”

Felt also said Riddle spoke about religious passages in the Koran.

Humpolick again pressed for details.

“He found solace in his religion after he shot his father,” Felt said.

With no further witnesses, Franklin entered two exhibits: a copy of the defendant’s past felony convictions, justifying the charge of having a weapon while under disability, and the sentencing from the conviction.

Humpolick called no witnesses, but moved to dismiss the case.

Camplese said the case will be bound over to the grand jury; Riddle will remain in jail on a $1 million bond.

Family members yelled, “Jesus loves you, Reshad,” as police led him back to his jail cell.
What will be the reaction of dhimmis when I mention this story? Denial that Islam itself could possibly be one contributing cause of what happened at Hiawatha Church of God in Christ on Easter Sunday 2013. The capacity of human beings for self-deception is infinite. Pollyannas abound in spite of the following from the literal word of Allah:
Fight them; Allah will punish them by your hands and will disgrace them and give you victory over them and satisfy the breasts of a believing people and remove the fury in the believers' hearts. (Qur'an 9:14-15)
Perhaps in the course of the trial, likely in the distant future after this story of Quran-inspired murder has faded from mention and from memory, we will learn just how Reshad Riddle's father disrespected his son — if the defense attorney allows the accused to take the stand, that is.

WHAT,did this [criminal] somehow circumvent the 'backgroung check' process? NO, that's impossible; it must be a misprint!

  4. Interesting. I had not been following this one and didn't know about the koran.

Like so many other incidents you don't hear these type details in all media reports.

  5. Do we assume he wil claim his First Ammendment right to practice his religion?

  6. A disturbed man shoots his father and does not target anyone else in the church and you somehow see this as something other than a mental health issue?

Really, this fixation with jihad is silly.

This is like blaming Protestantism for the women who heard God telling her to drown her kids in the bathtub.

  7. I think this is clear and convincing evidence that had the communist left taken away all of our guns, then Richard would still have been shot and killed by his criminal son. But it does seem that Richard deserved what he got; he is, after all, responsible for raising REshad, right? Didn’t Rev. Wright tell us “De chickins dey be com’in home to roost?”

Ducky's right ... especially since Andrea Kennedy Yates was raised as a Catholic.

Keep pitching until you win, Nostradumbass.

  9. A little history lesson:

In the year 624, Abu Ubaidah participated in the first major battle between the Muslims and the Quraysh of Mecca, at the Battle of Badr. In this battle, he was attacked by his father Abdullah ibn al-Jarrah, who was fighting alongside the army of Quraysh. Abu Ubaidah avoided fighting with him but eventually his father succeeded in blocking Abu Ubaidah's path. Abu Ubaidah then attacked him and killed him.

The following verse of the Qur'an was written about this display of character by Abu 'Ubaidah:

You shall not find a people who believe in Allah and the latter day befriending those who act in opposition to Allah and His Messenger, even though they were their (own) fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or their kinsfolk; these are they into whose hearts He has impressed faith, and whom He has strengthened with an inspiration from Him: and He will cause them to enter gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein; Allah is well-pleased with them and they are well-pleased with Him these are Allah's party: now surely the party of Allah are the successful ones.
    —Qur'an sura 58, Al-Mujadila, ayah 22

Note that "Allah is well-pleased with them." There is no contrition for the death of a father at the hand of his son.

  10. Hardly relevant, Powdered Wig, the principle is the same. I think you can understand.

This was the act of a mentally ill man and to conflate it with the bugaboo the right has about jihad is silly.

  11. Duck,
    Believe as you wish.

I won't cut your head off for so believing.

BTW, the title of the blog post does end with a question mark. All the details regarding Reshad Riddle are not yet available. The man did have an extensive criminal record, which includes trying to slit his girlfriend's throat.

Thus far, I have found nothing related to any indication that Reshad Riddle was under a psychiatrist's care. Have you?

Daniel Greenfield made the following point in his essay on the topic of what happened:

After decades of Muslims killing Americans in the name of Allah, there’s just no motive. Instead we’re going back to psychiatric disturbance. Maybe Reshad, like Nidal Hasan, contacted PTSD in the air.

    Oh, and one more thing....

Maybe I'm incorrect, but I believe that I learned long ago that you, Duck, denied for 3 days who perpetrated the 9/11 attacks. Or was it that you refused to believe that 9/11 was indeed a manifestation of jihad?

  12. AOW, I think in analyzing anything that originates from Ducky's brain housing group, you must remember that leftism shares many of the same characteristics as Islam. It is a dynamic religion, it is mostly composed of people who suffer from mental illness, and it is easily radicalized. In Islam, students memorize verses without any idea about what they mean; the same is true with leftists. They memorize trite Marxist verses, but have no clue. Naturally, this remains with them for most of their lives … which explains why Nostradumbass sounds like a broken record.

  13. Duck,
Are you going to give Major Nidal Hassan a pass too? Was he mentally ill or was he performing jihad? Please answer the question, and explain your answer.

    ------------

It may well be that Reshad Riddle was as crazy as a cootie bug. However, he did cite Islam as his motivation.

this desperate need to convince yourselves that the scourge of jihad is loose upon the land

I never said any such thing. But the fact is that jihad is one of the tenets of Islam.

  14. From this recent essay by Steven Emerson:

Jihad is Cool: Jihadist Magazines Recruit Young Terrorists

Jihad recruitment has evolved into using a mainstream format, it is now cool. Print and online magazines provide practical detailed instruction on how to commit terrorist acts. The latest offering, Lone Mujahid Pocketbook, Spring 2013, is published courtesy of al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula's Inspire magazine, and is available on multiple websites.

It bills itself as "A Step to (sic) Step Guide on How to Become a Successful Lone Mujahid" and already has enthusiasts. Using hip, modern language conventions and rap lingo, the cover asks "R U dreamin' of wagin' jihadi attacks against kuffar? … Well, there's no need to travel abroad, coz the frontline has come to you. Wanna know how? Just read 'n' apply the contents of this guide which has practical 'n' creative ways to please Allah by killing his enemies 'n' healing the believers' chests." Creepily akin to a teen magazine, the Pocketbook specifically targets prospective American jihadis with tips, tactics and incitements to carry out terror attacks....

  15. There could be no question that this was a case of mental illness made manifest and run amok, so in that regard Ducky 's observation is perfectly correct.

However, I would add that any natural-born American citizen raised in this country from infancy by non-Muslim parents who embraces Islam does, perforce, suffer from a form of psychosis. Anyone who would deliberately choose Islam over a traditionally American way of life automatically qualifies as a mental case -- obviously a potential danger to society -- and a person who bears close watching by the authorities.

    ISLAM is NOT RELIGION -- it Is an INVASION - a SUBVERSION - a PERVERSION - a SEDITION -- and a MALEDICTION.

  16. FT,
I do wonder if Reshad Riddle, even if mentally ill, would have attacked his father's church on Easter Sunday if it had not been for Reshad Riddle's conversion to Islam.

It is a practice of fundamental Islam today all over the world to attack churches during the Christmas and Easter seasons -- to assert Islamic supremacism, one of the tenets of fundamental, militant Islam.
