I read Stogie's article and scanned the other. The evidence presented seems convincing, but the fact remains that only about 15% of all the world's Muslim population actively subscribes to this radical fundamentalist view of their religion.
I do believe there is a grave danger if we adopt a totally anti-Muslim policy, ourselves, that we may wind up mirroring the mentality we, perhaps rightly, perhaps wrongly, ascribe to them.
Once we come to believe fervently in a Kill or Be Killed paradigm, we might easily begin to reconstruct the wanton cruelty of the Crusades abroad and the construction of Extermination Centers at home.
The Christian West may be several centuries ahead of the Muslim World in the advance towards Enlightenment, but we could easily revert to the barbarism of our not-so-distant past, if we succumb to the Three-F Policy based on Frustration, Fear and Fury.
I say that, even after twelve solid years of advocating DIDADIN -- Detain, Intern, Disempower And Deport Islamaniacs Now.
I've never supported a policy of EXTERMINATION. In that way madness lies.
DIDADIN, however, would be the common sense approach to the Moral and Social CANCER that has invaded our body politic.
On sort of an off topic... Do you watch the TV series THE AMERICANS?
For some reason that show came to mind when thinking of these Boston Marathon bombers, their families, etc. Raised from birth, brought to the US as children, trained to hate this country...
Were they really just recently radicalized? Or was this training from birth?

@FT one massive issue with your DIDIAN. That was done before. We have a name for it. The Spanish Inquisition.
That, the worst event in Church history, was starting with one goal: get rid of the Muslim/Moor dictators in Spain, because the citizens were sick to death of their rulers. It became very simple: if you were Semitic you left. Jews and Muslims alike. But, Muslims were good liars. They were not all one race. So, it became even simpler: you were a Catholic, or a Muslim. And Muslims were deported, or torturer, or killed. So were all heretics, or non-believers. (In Catholicism, a heretic is technically one who breaks the laws of the Church, but can mean non-believer given the time period). It is widely known as one of the worst events in Western history. It is reviled for a reason.
Now, I'm not saying Islam isn't a big problem... it is. But it isn't as simple as deporting all Muslims. We tried that before, and it ended in utter disaster.
They are cruel, they are hateful, they are dangerous- some of them, but all can be made radical. But we have in the West a policy: innocent until proven guilty. Many Muslims, like it or not, are still innocent. Now, we do need to crackdown (and stop ignoring...) the truly radical ones. We need to recognize jihad for what it is- holy war. And for heavens sake, if a regular citizen was planning to kill many, or people reported them as suspicious, some law enforcement would watch them. Why not these guys? Oh ya, the government is an idiot and loves Muslims. THAT is the bigger issue. Treat them like everyone else- no special treatment, no persecution.
And redefine, for the feds at least, what jihad means: a call to kill. That is not, in the slightest, protected by the First Amendment!

ps yaya, I'm playing devils evocative I know. I just really don't want a repeat of history.
Liberal Democrat strategist and commentator, and Fox News regular, Bob Beckel must have shocked his liberal pals on the Georgetown cocktail circuit to the core when he said, “…we’re going to have to cut off Muslim students from coming to this country for some period of time so that we can at least absorb what we got, look at what we’ve got, and decide whether some of the people here should be sent back home or sent to prison.”...
FT, only about 15% of all the world's Muslim population actively subscribes to this radical fundamentalist view of their religion
"Actively" is an important word; there are also other methods of supporting fundamental Islam -- methods such a financing and keeping silence about what is afoot.
If there are 2 billion Muslims in the world how many of those individuals are supporting fundamentalist Islam (jihad)?
Clearly, not every Muslim is a terrorist. The problem is trying to figure out BEFORE THE FACT which Muslims are a threat and which are not.
The Tsarnaev brothers had lived here in the United States for years. They had enjoyed freedom and even government handouts. Yet, they turned -- or were turned.
You mentioned the wanton cruelty of the Crusades. The history of what happened in the days leading up to the Crusades is also important to consider.
Just the dollar-amount cost of amputating a leg = $20,000! A prosthetic leg can cost as much as $90,000!
The entire article linked in this comment is worth reading and considering. And note this brief excerpt:
Adding to the tragedy's toll will be lost wages for those unable to work, including two Massachusetts brothers who each lost a leg, Miller said. They had been roofers but may have to find a new line of work.
Many survivors will also need help with expenses beyond immediate health care, including things like modifying cars for those who lost limbs or remodeling homes to accommodate wheelchairs.
VIENNA: MUSLIMS DEMONSTRATE OUTSIDE U.S. EMBASSY IN SUPPORT OF THE BOSTON JIHAD BOMBER
One money quote from the above link:
Ministry spokesman Karl-Heinz Grundboeck said the fact Tamerlan Tsarnaev “spent a short time in Austria, explicitly for boxing … gives no reason for concern in Austria.”
Meanwhile, the black flag of jihad is on prominent display at the demonstration in Austria.
The above reads "Why the Boston bomber did it." One way to put put the answer is that the bombers motive was a motive of religion. In that it was the militant jihadism of Islam. For example the Quran teaches in Sura 47 "Whenever you encounter the unbelievers strike off their heads untill you make a greater slaughter among them..." A bomb can make a greater "slaughter among them" then a sword can. This is just one of the many places in the Quran that teach violence and killing. All this brings to mind the wisdom of thewords of Thomas paine from his book THEAGE OF REASON which reads "Any system of religion that has anything in it that shocks the mind of a child, cannot be a true system."

Debbie,

Liberal Bob Beckel has proposed a moratorium on Muslim student visas:

Wildstar,
ReplyDeleteYou posted an excellent essay about freedom vs. safety at your site. Kudos to you!
My dear Wildstarm
ReplyDeleteI have never advocated torture or murder merely EXPULSION.
BIG difference between DIDADIN and The Inquisition, believe me.
What i suggest, is a PROPHYLACTIC measure.
Islam is a mental and spiritual CANCER that has invaded OUR "body."
If We are to survive and remain OURSELVES, we must EXCISE the cancer, IF possible.
Detain
Intern
Disempower
And
Deport
Islamaniacs
NOW
I won't happen, so doubtless you will have to live out your years as a dhimmi -- or fall victim to The Scimitar.
A horrible prospect. They will force you either to deny Jesus, or die.
This is not CRIME we're fighting it is a dread DISEASE.
